Talk about a change of heart!
Metallica's latest album has been leaked by a French fan in advance of its September 12th release, and they're actually happy about it.
For reals!
Drummer Lars Ulrich told San Francisco radio station Live 105, "If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days."
This is the same Metallica who was suing mad about piracy a few years ago!
We get it, Metallica! These days you make loads of money playing live, not by selling albums, right?!

Well now that its cool to release your music freely i.e. Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails… It has made quite the statement. Funny seeing it from them though, really, I remember all their antics over music downloading/sharing and they may be saying its okay now, but I only believe that's thanks to other bands out there who had the balls to do it without discretion first.

Record companies now offer 360 contracts where the artists loose out on T-shirt sales and ticket sales… they are still scraping the money… the only people who lost out were the artists. I think these guys are douchebags, too, but not because of the Napster episode. If you like a musician's music you should pay them for it; otherwise it's stealing. Take your cheap ass to Itunes and pay the $1 and download the shit. Musicians, like anyone, need money to live and support their families especially with the established record companies screwing them. Why do you think more of these bands are starting their own labels? They are tired of taking it in the ass. They have to do 90% of the work and use their creativity to come up with the music and then for all their troubles they are rewarded by having asshole record beauracrats reaping most of the reward and retaining the rights to alot of the material.
If the guy who leaked the album was a genuine Metallica fan. which he obviously is, I doubt the band give a shit. They have made millions by their huge world tours and they put on a fucking amazing live performance anyway. At the Reading festival two weeks ago they were awesome, as always.

I used to love these guys.. USED to. I've listened to most of the new stuff and Like an idiot I bought into the whole same ol bullshit "we're going back to our old roots" and like every other time I had my heart crushed. The last time I saw them in concert was for the Black album, after that they began to suck, then they let Jason go/or fired Jason, which ever it was it was their biggest mistake. All artists should give their CDs away for free or very cheaply because everyone knows the real money is made touring.
