Argentinians Burn Down a Train

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & True

Don't piss off any Argentinians. They'll burn you!

On Thursday, several furious Argentinians set fire to a train in the suburbs of Buenos Aires.

The reason?

They were upset over the delays they were facing during the morning rush hour.

Images were caught on TV showing flames and black smoke covering the train.

Gustavo Gago, a rep for rail company TBA, said, "We understand that people get angry when the service is delayed or canceled, but they absolutely can't attack a public service in this way."

And nearby at Castelar, passengers were caught throwing stones at the ticket office and blocking the rails.

According to several passengers, the delays, which were caused by a broken down train, cost them a full day of work.

And this isn't the first time violence has broken out.

Just last year commuters also burned a carriage at a main station.

Riots also occurred at another main railway station when some passengers and cops clashed. That incident caused a dozen of arrests and injuries.

We'd LOVE to go to Argentina since we hear it's beautiful, but hopefully if we go there won't be any violence on the streets.

At least we'll make a mental note to avoid public transportation.

  10. 10

Perez, must you refer to yourself as "we"? That is what the QUEEN OF ENGLAND calls herself when adressing people!
"We" indicates that no one, NO ONE, is above you. Come on, Perez!

oh well, perhaps you are just being sarcastic :)

  11. 11

Andy27, do you do anything but comment on here?

    Maybe work or school?

You should go to Chile Perez!….that country is REALLY beautiful and FUN!

  15. 15

Those Argentines are just lucky they don't have to rely on D.C. Metro for public transit.

Re: jaimelou – Haven't you heard? Andy,Albacorey,Swimstud&I all work for Perez to stir up shit on this site 1 Get w/ the program JL!

  17. 17

I'm from Argentina, and even if we are hot-headed individuals you have to understand that there's more to the situation… thousands of people here rely on the trains in order to get into the city to work every single day. And when every day traveling is a torture someone is bound to snap. And besides, in these events are always involved certain "political" groups that initiate the rioting. And when the trains system is subsidiased by the state, there's really no motive for it to run like hell every single day. I don't support what they did but I can certainly understand it. And Perez, be real, if your coming to Buenos Aires, there's no way you'll be taking that particular train (it doesn't run the tourist track). That being said, Buenos Aires rocks!

  18. 18

thats a hilarious story but very bad for the image of Argentina.

Travelers do not want to deal with that kind of BS..

i'm from argentina… we are passionate ppl.. what u expect the government sucks over there the "police" arent there to help citizens or anything they are all out for them selves. those fucking pieces of shit they get kids to steal shit for them it ridiculous what these cops do over there.

  20. 20

    That's hot

  21. 21

Sorry but the thing missing in here is not only how bad the service is (delays and stuff) but the way people travel when the service works fine. There's no room to even breathe and usualy men take advantage of this. So when get off the train you're really alienated and angry at everything and everyone that's not any excuse to burn down a train and start such a riot but if you ever happen to travel there you might have a different point of view of what happened.

  22. 22

Oh and by the way WE argentinians are HOT ;)

Re: Roxryder – I have traveled there and in Uruguay and the buses are like that too, guys so take advantage of that.

Hi, I am a 26 year old woman, born and living in Argentina and I take public transport to work everyday. Not because I can't afford a car (I have one), but because traffic in downtown is hell (not to mention parking).

We (passengers of public transport) don't burn trains because we get upset. We are not violent in the streets. We are normal people just like you, and this is a very nice country just like the US (I've been there twice and visited 13 different states).

That whole incident was generated deliberately by political groups that are known to be corrupt and violent, and that carried oil, stones, etc on purpuse to do what they did. NOT by users of public transport who take the train to GO TO WORK. This people were filmed and have been identified. And it's all over the news. Get informed. So please, next time post the right information instead of twisting the truth. Or better, correct what it's been written here.

In addition, Buenos Aires is packed with tourists from the US and all over the world who have the greatest of times and take public transport too, and none seem to be complaining.

Basically Argentinian's are so good looking because most of them are descendants of Italians. The rest of Latin America is was mostly settled by the Spanish or Portuguese. So, when you talk about how good looking they are and singling out Argentinians you are basically noticing them because they are Italian desendants.

I am not even Italian. I am Irish. I know I am ugly.

  27. 27

The reason for the fire was a protest against the current government whose planning to build a new train system that some people just cant afford. I don't agree with violence, but at least I feel we shouldn't be ill informed.

  28. 28

I'm from Argentina, and yes we are HOT

  30. Mosha says – reply to this

well.. as a colombian married to an argentinian, i KNOW about them political/corrupt parties and their mischief. however dont let that discourage you from going there; ive been many times to argentina and its gorgeous, (especially if you also take a trip down to wine country mendoza.. ) lots to do and to see. its like every latin american country: you have to look past the casualties… being that said : THE WINE IS THE BEST EVER!

  31. 31

Argentina is an absolutely gorgeous country! Buenos Aires has a very European flair and Bariloche…smells of chocolate..it's like a little swiss town. And yes, the Argentinians are always right (:-;) …no sense trying to argue with them about anything. lol The music and tango is incredible..so sexy.

  32. 32

Don't worry, if you come here, you won't be taking that train, that's for sure, there's nothing really interesting you would like to see there.

Specially that line. The only one I think you probably would have to take is the "Mitre", but there's no need to avoid public transportation here, you can take the bus/train/subway everywhere you want to go, at least for the tourists route, so don't be afraid.

Plus, that doesn't happen all the time.

  33. 33

Re: love4chihuahuas – being the queen of all media does not make you royalty :)

  34. 34

Another plus: yes, we are hot.

And we are not all Italian descendants, most people are, but there are a lot of Spanish and German.

    My family is from Switzerland.

    But still, we're hot.

  35. 35

Guys .. the real reason of that is cause WE ARE FUCKING TIRED OF THIS FUCKING PRESIDENT … she bought an air compañy that s a garbage, decided to pay a fortune to a french bank and tobuy a super fast train that will cost double than a plane ticket to only 2 TOWNS ..
When people is starving, there s a lot of unsecurity, no jobs, universities suck, public health sucks, education in general suck IFFF YOU CAN T AFFORD PRIVATE ONE.

Argentina ROCKSSS FOR TUORISTS .. but sucks for locals cause we have 2 Argentinas the one that travel agents use to sell you and THE REAL ONE ( I m almost a doctor and I saw too many things …) in the past 2 weeks 6 biggggg drug dealers .. 2 from Colombia 3 from here one from Peru I think, got killed .. the peruvian was a " mule" but the rest were really TOP guys related to the mexican drug groups andthey were living in the besttt areas of Buenos Aires ..
A brit tuorist girl gotraped and killed few months ago .. her parents are still waiting that my embassy apollogizes .. and she wasn t the only tuorist killed in here ..

  36. 36

  38. 38

Perez, we don't burn trains on a daily basis!
People are tired of traveling like cattle every single day, thus they snap. Add to that these pathetic political groups and you got yourself a bonfire!

If you ever come here (and you should, we like gays) you are gonna love it! From the food to the currency, to the night life to the soccer, we will grow under your skin!

    p.s.: we ARE hot

  41. 41

dicho eso…to all you people out there talking shiz about Argentina, please just let me remind you that you have no business unles a) you can tell the position of my country in the Globe (that is, EARTH, just in case you don't get it) and b) until you actually know what on Earth you are talking about.
That being said, perez…espero mas de vos, porque se que podes darlo

  42. 42

hey now. im from argentina. haha we dont burn down shit bc we feel like it. if you ever live there for a month you would want to as well. i visit my family every christmas and such. the economy there is horrible! and the people there scam the argentineans EVERY day. the political groups waste money on their own homes rather than making transportation and the city a better place. if you DO go to argentina….go to mar del plata =] id be glad to lend you my beach house. its GORGEOUS there. just email me and id be glad to give you the key or something. but you HAVE to go during the holidays..1. bc its summer there and 2. because we do SO many traditions for everything thats amazing. =] but it is true…we do get mad pretty easily…ESPECIALLY when it comes to soccer..grr. =]

Dear sweet Perez,I'm from Buenos Aires, very close to the place where all the riot was, I want to say a couple of things:
1- The people from Argentina are NOT violent people, please!
2- We are NOT racist, we are just like every country in the world…
3- We are passionate, maybe, emotionals, maybe.
4- We don't burn stuff/things.It was all political, trust me, someone put money to that people.
5- That morning, the riot morning I was at home with my husband and kid watching tv and honestly feeling sad about all that, I'm telling you this again, what happen was NOT made from honest workers , the riot people aren't represent my country!!
6- I invite you and everybody to visit our country, it's beautiful and we love to have tourists.
7- Yes, we are good looking…HOT
8- Yes, we love soccer and we have great players
9- We have good food, great wines…yes
    10- Sorry about my english.
11- One more thing…Perez…Te quiero! *muah*
