McCain On Top - Score One For Johnny!

Filed under: Politik > Barack Obama > John McCain > Sarah Palin

wenn20169142.jpg

Presidential hopeful John McCain is beating out Barack Obama in popularity.

McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention actually received more television viewers than Obama did last week at the Democratic party's event.

According to preliminary data from the Nielsen Media Research, McCain's speech on Thursday ended the night with a 4.8 rating/7 share, as opposed to Obama's 4.3 /7 average.

We wonder if once all the data comes in, if the numbers will change, but as of right now it seems more people are tuning in to watch McCain.

And according to reports, McCain's speech pulled in over 26% more viewer's than Obama's did.

Do U think McCain is a great speaker? Were you inspired by his words???

Update: It's confirmed.

Obama got beat by McCain in the TV ratings!

A record 38.9 million U.S. TV viewers watched John McCain accept the Republican nomination for president on Thursday, slightly more than the 38.3 million people who tuned in for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's speech, Nielsen Media Research reported.

Congrats!

  2. 2

    1st!!!!!!!!!

  3. 3

    omg i was first :)

  4. 4

Inspire? Im not voting for someone to inspire me. Im voting for whoever i believe is right for the job. Good speaker or not.

  5. 5

Palin=Tina Fey, Mrs. McCain=Cloris Leachman, McCain=Mr. Roper from Three's Company.

  6. 6

Yes he did wonderfully. He is truly an inspiration and great for this country.

  7. 7

The only thing that he inspired to do was gag. I haven't picked a candidate yet, but his speech made me gag - absolutely horrible.

  8. 8

John Mccain looks like he's in his 80's!

  9. 9

Re: bbrican – No bitch, youre not first. i bet when your comment went through, your entire world just collapsed and your dreams shattered, huh?

  10. 10

Well thats lame. I flippin hate Mccain

  11. 11

yes, i feel like more people are inclined to like him because for the past few years before he ever had this presidential idea he has been an example in communications and psychology courses in colleges. his past is his advantage and it is working. he is a great speaker and has the experience that not too many americans have.

  12. 12

I think Mcains weak spot is his speeches, but I think that he has a way with communicating with people with more than just words, He is inspiring and worthy of the white house, he made that very clear. His opening video showed how dedicated he really is to the united states.

He will get beat in November too. You know why cause young people, minorities and other fed up with the Bush admin people will not vote, they will not sit there thru the boring convention (they will see it on you tube or Perez in the morning) so that is why the old folks who are primarily republicans will make MCCAIN WIN!!! Not taking sides it is just fact!!! That is why if you are such a fan of Obama go register and then go vote, screw the long lines do something that will count!!!!

  14. 14

A little surprising! hmm. I guess mostly old people watch tv

Thank you for finally writing something good about McCain!

  16. 16

    He's going to win. Yay!

  17. 17

This is a no brainer. Republicans are too close minded to even bother watching Obama speak. Dems on the other hand like to hear what Grammpy has to say. The ratings only prove that this country is paying attention to this war mongar!
    GO OBAMA!!!

  18. 18

Where's Sugar Walls…. she must be devastated.

  19. 19

    Re: Andy27 – omg you're so right!!!!!!! :D

  20. 20

Re: Sammy – I think you're sadly misinformed. There are quite a few young people who still have their heads on straight and vote for the right.

  21. 21

maybe in the ratings but certainly not in popularity… i hate him so bad!! xoxo

  22. 22

Most people just watched cause they wanted to here what kind of bullshit Palin was going to say!

  23. 23

Yeah, i really think the reason is because a lot of dems like the two sides of an issue and want to hear what the mummy says to not be so one sided. In the other hand Repubes only stick to there one side prefer close mindedness

  24. 24

i didn't watch it, well i didn't actually watch obama's either, but I watched his wife's and Hillary's and they were both very good

  25. 25

Whether you agree or disagree with McCain, he means what he says. Unlike Obama who has no clue what he means. The debates will tell it all.

  26. 26

McCain is an idiot - and you Americans sure vote for the wrooong dude all the time.. The whole world was laughing when you re-elected Bush

  27. 27

I WAS!! inspired that is. It really frustrates me that people on this site play down his previous experience in the war. War stays with you until you die, I'm sure most of you that think that's no big accomplishment are a bunch of hippies would rather sit on your ass and whine then get out and protect your country. the minute you get deployed to iraq, lose a few best friends that are more like brothers please come back to perezhilton.com and bitch about how little of a deal it is to go to war. Oh yea that's right, did Barack ever fight of the united states??? I forget. UM NO! Hearing about how Mccain was tortured and how he never sold out the U.S. is a true hero and someone who I want handling our country in times of war.

  28. 28

You should elect the President based if he can give a good speech or not…words are meaningless if there is no action behind it. McCain has a proven record of making change and providing hope, Obama can only talk the talk but has yet to prove he can do anything he says. And if you have any education you'll actually look at what they are both saying, put it on paper and look at what it really means and you'll see that McCain is for the people and Obama is for government….if you want your life ran by the government then move to Cuba….America is for the free and people who believe in freedom, if you don't then you and Obama need to move to Cuba!

  29. 29

i think mccan did a great job on his speech and it was very inspiring

  30. 30

It is good so many people watched the McCain speach…So they can see for themselves how uninspiring he truly is…I dont see how anyone can vote for a man who didnt have the balls to pick the running mate he wanted, Joe Leiberman, as reported by all the national papers…He bent over for the conservative right and chose who they wanted…No balls…Not a president I want…Yeah, I know, he was a war hero…Like a million years ago…Karl Rove & the Evangelicals are still calling the shots, you call that change? Just more of the same…Sad…

i watched it for a good laugh! Missed Obamas because i was out on Friday night! I think it has something to do with Thursday night being a stay at home night. Also, i think Mc Cains viewers are older and many dont use the internet to watch as Obamas do (as i did!).

  32. 32

more inspired by his actions than his words

  33. 33

    How can this be???
    Obama is handsome, well spoken,
    well dressed, dashingly good
    looking!
All McCain has is issues and
    ideas and Sarah Palin.
    .
We need a good looking young
President, not one with good ideas
and a woman who made it on her
own in politics instead of riding her husband's
    coat tails into office!

  34. 34

those are tv ratings. that only means that more democrats are interested in seeing what palin says and looking for signs of dementia in mc cain. the republicans take no interest in the democrats platform, wanting to keep it to a simple dichotomy of raising taxes vs cutting taxes. it is not a poll of who the viewers are likely to vote for.

  35. 35

it's great to see perez congradulating the republicans.

    mccain palin 08!

  36. 36

Well, if I had fucking known that I wouldn't have tuned in last night. Big fucking waste of time anyway. He didn't address anything new or cover any new directions that he will take this country. Once again, same ole same ole w/ the Republicans. YAWN.

    Very nice. Very nice =)
They should have worked harder on his speech and deliverance though. He missed a crucial opportunity =(

Re: Antony – and the whole world is laughing at your rediculous face now so whatever

  39. 39

A lot of people watched to see if he is pandering or senile. I only watched
the RNC to see what the hell they think they are doing!
Obama's speech moved people. It was history making!
    Mc-IN-sane is politics as usual.
I think on one side we have a chance to be forward moving and in the new Millennium! On the other side we can not only expect more of the same shoddy leadership in many areas, but we will be headed back into the dark ages.
WE CAN NOT allow Roe V Wade to be over turned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Americans love football more than politics and are easily distracted…

    McCain ratings higher than Obama's

The preliminary Nielsen ratings indicate that more people watched McCain's speech than Obama's.

They don't seem to have released hard numbers, but that cuts against various presumptions, and is another indication of how closely many Americans are following this election.

UPDATE: I misread the initial story; in fact, McCain's ratings were up 26% only on NBC, where a preceding football game appears to have boosted them.

    the pity vote?

  43. 43

    heh heh heh…

  44. 44

yeah-McCain had more viewers because they picked up a lot of Democrat viewers. I can name SOOOOO many of my Rep. friends who had no interest in watching the DCN, and soooo many of my FELLOW Dem friends who are mature enough to watch both sides!

    So there. :p

  45. 45

Re: SWEETAZHONAAY – I know he is a hero and all…But get the facts…He did break, over 50 times and recorded anti-American messages for his captures…Hell, I would have broke 5000 times, dont get me wrong…But war is not the answer, diplomacy is…War mongoring is an ancient concept, this is the 21st century…Time to change…McCain's thinking is too old for this world…For our nation to be successful, it is time to change with the times….A vote for McCain is a vote for the same old White House…

We watched so we could laugh at him and pick on him. Cindy seemed high, we loved the insanity! It was boring!!!

    Re: Taffina – So True!!!!!!!

  49. 49

I seriously doubt this is true.

NO! I actually left it running while I did homework. I fell asleep after, and if I had to watch his smile again, I would have puked!

    OBAMA/BIDEN 08!

  50. 50

The only reason the republican convention got any attention at out was out of pure curiosity. People wanted to see the woman the republicans picked out of desperation. And a previous poster was right, the dems will watch both conventions, the reps are too close-minded to do the same.
