McCain On Top - Score One For Johnny!

Presidential hopeful John McCain is beating out Barack Obama in popularity.
McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention actually received more television viewers than Obama did last week at the Democratic party's event.
According to preliminary data from the Nielsen Media Research, McCain's speech on Thursday ended the night with a 4.8 rating/7 share, as opposed to Obama's 4.3 /7 average.
We wonder if once all the data comes in, if the numbers will change, but as of right now it seems more people are tuning in to watch McCain.
And according to reports, McCain's speech pulled in over 26% more viewer's than Obama's did.
Do U think McCain is a great speaker? Were you inspired by his words???
Update: It's confirmed.
Obama got beat by McCain in the TV ratings!
A record 38.9 million U.S. TV viewers watched John McCain accept the Republican nomination for president on Thursday, slightly more than the 38.3 million people who tuned in for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's speech, Nielsen Media Research reported.
Congrats!

hate mccain.. lol
1st!!!!!!!!!
omg i was first
Inspire? Im not voting for someone to inspire me. Im voting for whoever i believe is right for the job. Good speaker or not.
Palin=Tina Fey, Mrs. McCain=Cloris Leachman, McCain=Mr. Roper from Three's Company.
Yes he did wonderfully. He is truly an inspiration and great for this country.
The only thing that he inspired to do was gag. I haven't picked a candidate yet, but his speech made me gag - absolutely horrible.
John Mccain looks like he's in his 80's!
Re: bbrican – No bitch, youre not first. i bet when your comment went through, your entire world just collapsed and your dreams shattered, huh?
Well thats lame. I flippin hate Mccain
yes, i feel like more people are inclined to like him because for the past few years before he ever had this presidential idea he has been an example in communications and psychology courses in colleges. his past is his advantage and it is working. he is a great speaker and has the experience that not too many americans have.
I think Mcains weak spot is his speeches, but I think that he has a way with communicating with people with more than just words, He is inspiring and worthy of the white house, he made that very clear. His opening video showed how dedicated he really is to the united states.
He will get beat in November too. You know why cause young people, minorities and other fed up with the Bush admin people will not vote, they will not sit there thru the boring convention (they will see it on you tube or Perez in the morning) so that is why the old folks who are primarily republicans will make MCCAIN WIN!!! Not taking sides it is just fact!!! That is why if you are such a fan of Obama go register and then go vote, screw the long lines do something that will count!!!!
A little surprising! hmm. I guess mostly old people watch tv
Thank you for finally writing something good about McCain!
He's going to win. Yay!
This is a no brainer. Republicans are too close minded to even bother watching Obama speak. Dems on the other hand like to hear what Grammpy has to say. The ratings only prove that this country is paying attention to this war mongar!
GO OBAMA!!!
Where's Sugar Walls…. she must be devastated.
Re: Andy27 – omg you're so right!!!!!!!
Re: Sammy – I think you're sadly misinformed. There are quite a few young people who still have their heads on straight and vote for the right.
maybe in the ratings but certainly not in popularity… i hate him so bad!! xoxo
Most people just watched cause they wanted to here what kind of bullshit Palin was going to say!
Yeah, i really think the reason is because a lot of dems like the two sides of an issue and want to hear what the mummy says to not be so one sided. In the other hand Repubes only stick to there one side prefer close mindedness
i didn't watch it, well i didn't actually watch obama's either, but I watched his wife's and Hillary's and they were both very good
Whether you agree or disagree with McCain, he means what he says. Unlike Obama who has no clue what he means. The debates will tell it all.
McCain is an idiot - and you Americans sure vote for the wrooong dude all the time.. The whole world was laughing when you re-elected Bush
I WAS!! inspired that is. It really frustrates me that people on this site play down his previous experience in the war. War stays with you until you die, I'm sure most of you that think that's no big accomplishment are a bunch of hippies would rather sit on your ass and whine then get out and protect your country. the minute you get deployed to iraq, lose a few best friends that are more like brothers please come back to perezhilton.com and bitch about how little of a deal it is to go to war. Oh yea that's right, did Barack ever fight of the united states??? I forget. UM NO! Hearing about how Mccain was tortured and how he never sold out the U.S. is a true hero and someone who I want handling our country in times of war.
You should elect the President based if he can give a good speech or not…words are meaningless if there is no action behind it. McCain has a proven record of making change and providing hope, Obama can only talk the talk but has yet to prove he can do anything he says. And if you have any education you'll actually look at what they are both saying, put it on paper and look at what it really means and you'll see that McCain is for the people and Obama is for government….if you want your life ran by the government then move to Cuba….America is for the free and people who believe in freedom, if you don't then you and Obama need to move to Cuba!
i think mccan did a great job on his speech and it was very inspiring
It is good so many people watched the McCain speach…So they can see for themselves how uninspiring he truly is…I dont see how anyone can vote for a man who didnt have the balls to pick the running mate he wanted, Joe Leiberman, as reported by all the national papers…He bent over for the conservative right and chose who they wanted…No balls…Not a president I want…Yeah, I know, he was a war hero…Like a million years ago…Karl Rove & the Evangelicals are still calling the shots, you call that change? Just more of the same…Sad…

Obama/Biden '08
i watched it for a good laugh! Missed Obamas because i was out on Friday night! I think it has something to do with Thursday night being a stay at home night. Also, i think Mc Cains viewers are older and many dont use the internet to watch as Obamas do (as i did!).
more inspired by his actions than his words
How can this be???
Obama is handsome, well spoken,
well dressed, dashingly good
looking!
All McCain has is issues and
ideas and Sarah Palin.
.
We need a good looking young
President, not one with good ideas
and a woman who made it on her
own in politics instead of riding her husband's
coat tails into office!
those are tv ratings. that only means that more democrats are interested in seeing what palin says and looking for signs of dementia in mc cain. the republicans take no interest in the democrats platform, wanting to keep it to a simple dichotomy of raising taxes vs cutting taxes. it is not a poll of who the viewers are likely to vote for.
it's great to see perez congradulating the republicans.
mccain palin 08!
Well, if I had fucking known that I wouldn't have tuned in last night. Big fucking waste of time anyway. He didn't address anything new or cover any new directions that he will take this country. Once again, same ole same ole w/ the Republicans. YAWN.
Very nice. Very nice =)
They should have worked harder on his speech and deliverance though. He missed a crucial opportunity =(
Re: Antony – and the whole world is laughing at your rediculous face now so whatever
A lot of people watched to see if he is pandering or senile. I only watched
the RNC to see what the hell they think they are doing!
Obama's speech moved people. It was history making!
Mc-IN-sane is politics as usual.
I think on one side we have a chance to be forward moving and in the new Millennium! On the other side we can not only expect more of the same shoddy leadership in many areas, but we will be headed back into the dark ages.
WE CAN NOT allow Roe V Wade to be over turned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: RashManly – good looking? pfsh
Americans love football more than politics and are easily distracted…

McCain ratings higher than Obama's
The preliminary Nielsen ratings indicate that more people watched McCain's speech than Obama's.
They don't seem to have released hard numbers, but that cuts against various presumptions, and is another indication of how closely many Americans are following this election.
UPDATE: I misread the initial story; in fact, McCain's ratings were up 26% only on NBC, where a preceding football game appears to have boosted them.

Re: SWEETAZHONAAY –
the pity vote?
heh heh heh…
yeah-McCain had more viewers because they picked up a lot of Democrat viewers. I can name SOOOOO many of my Rep. friends who had no interest in watching the DCN, and soooo many of my FELLOW Dem friends who are mature enough to watch both sides!
So there. :p
Re: SWEETAZHONAAY – I know he is a hero and all…But get the facts…He did break, over 50 times and recorded anti-American messages for his captures…Hell, I would have broke 5000 times, dont get me wrong…But war is not the answer, diplomacy is…War mongoring is an ancient concept, this is the 21st century…Time to change…McCain's thinking is too old for this world…For our nation to be successful, it is time to change with the times….A vote for McCain is a vote for the same old White House…
Obama/Biden '08
We watched so we could laugh at him and pick on him. Cindy seemed high, we loved the insanity! It was boring!!!
WE NEED THE "RIGHT GUARD" FOR THAT HORRIBLE B.O. MCCAIN/PALIN 08………..PALIN 2012!!!!!!!!
Re: Taffina – So True!!!!!!!
I seriously doubt this is true.
NO! I actually left it running while I did homework. I fell asleep after, and if I had to watch his smile again, I would have puked!
OBAMA/BIDEN 08!
The only reason the republican convention got any attention at out was out of pure curiosity. People wanted to see the woman the republicans picked out of desperation. And a previous poster was right, the dems will watch both conventions, the reps are too close-minded to do the same.
Re: Taffina – exactly
Re: Andy27 – ohhhhh Andy27. You only THINK you're becoming famous by being an ass-hole.
News-flash, Perez already has that job. You might as well be one of those slutty myspace girl profiles that writes dirty messages on myspacetv and youtube.
lmao.
Re: Taffina – I have to agree with Taffina. I don't think more viewers means that McCain is more popular. It's also very likely that the same viewers who watched Obama tuned in to see both sides.
because everyone wanted to see him choke on his own spit
Someone's math is wrong because that doesn't equate to 26%. More like 1%. And some people, like me, tuned in and then about 5 minutes into the speech turned it off.
It's because people realize that unlike Obama, John McCain isn't full of crap.
Re: StacyMacyPacy – McCain doesn't seem like a bad person…but he does NOT have a record of making changes. On the contrary, he tends to vote with the majority of his party no matter what. He's totally go-with-the-flow and not a trailblazer by any means. That's a fact.
The difference in viewers is about 1.5%…nowhere near 26% claimed above. Not really that big a difference.
Why do idiots care who posts first?…not much of a life if that gets you excited…sorry to say, but it is true.
PEACE OUT OBAMA BITCHES!!
Re: wdfourty – You are absolutely right…I for one, a Democrat, did watch his speach…And it was the same old…"We are great, we are nice people. I Will deal with Iran and Russia. I will drill for oil"…But what is he going to do for us?!?!?! I dont want to be his friend…I dont want someone who cant wait to start more war or drill for oil that we wont see for at least 10 years and ruin our environment. Invest those BILLIONS in new technology and jobs…I want a President that can run a county and really look out for us, not give us lip service like the Republicans do…A vote for McCain is a vote for the same old White House…
Obama/Biden '08
I watched his speech last night and I was impressed with his dedication to America and the strength of his character despite what he's been through, but I don't think that's enough to be president. The video before his speech did more to inspire than him actually speaking. I don't like his goals for the country and don't trust his plan for it. So while I think he's a great and patriotic American hero, I don't think he could lead the country where it ought to go.
it could be because a lot of people were watching obama in large groups!
Re: JembaBemba – must be out cashing unemployment check
Re: Lukes.Mom – that doesnt mean he is going to win!!!! That has no indication of who is going to win! Just because people watched his speach doesnt mean they are voting for him! I watched it and I am not voting for him and never had any intention of voting for him!
Red necks have all the Nielsen boxes…
Re: RashManly – That's right, pick your next president based on how goodlooking they are. That's educated. It worked so well for the Bill Clinton groupies. lonely housewives who fantasized got us a moron slut for a president.
Re: Realist1 – Hey fuckface, here's some "Reality" for ya, god-willing, you'll be 72 some day as well. Calling a war hero a mummy- you should be shot.
Re: Lukes.Mom – Yes there are some, but very few, I like to get out and volunteer when there is an election just to see and learn, I was working for the Hillary campaign, and you know there where alot of people in line mostly old, there was a large amount of minorities, african american and so on coming in to the polling places, but, guess what they where talking a good game but, then we would ask for their registration card and about 15% would have one, there was another 20% that had better things to do then wait in that freaking long line! People all say yeah I will vote and so on but, there are really very few that do, I hope you will encourage people around you to register and vote even if you have to drive people out, I have!!!
Folks - the below is SO significant as to whether or not a candidate is in the pocket of big business:
-
-
"Public Citizen, a group that monitors campaign fundraising, has found that McCain had more bundlers — people who gather checks from networks of friends and associates — from the lobbying community than any other presidential candidate from either party."
-
-
Bush and his cronies have half ruined this country - be on alert when someone is being backed financially as McCain is.
-
-
Saddest of all, it is the republicans here who should be concerned — this is their candidate. Please don't stick your heads in the sand - the above should be a really strong wake-up call to you.
once again, you dumb, fat, ugly dolt - you should NOT be voting based on if someone is a great speaker. it's based on the issues and ability to lead our country.
you're such an effing moron
Re: Lukes.Mom – And you aint one of them MOM
You democrats are contridicting EVERYTHING you say. First your saying the only reason so many watched was because the democrats tuned in to laugh. Then yoru saying Obama got less cause democrats are younger and watch it on youtube instead of tv. Which is it? How bout this. Maybe Obama's speech got the viewers it did because all those "older people", who by the way have more wisdom and expirience with life then all you liberal whiny hippies, were interested in seeing the opposing parties speech because they have respect for both sides of the argument. I thought you democrats were all about acceptence but all I've seen you do is bash Palin and her family. Insult the elderly, and isn't it the democrats that push for social security? You are all such a bunch of hypocrits and really are giving me the laugh of my life. Please keep it up and keep your party in the tailspin it's in after this convention smacked you right between the eyes. It's HILARIOUS.
Re: SWEETAZHONAAY – UHM Who exactly are you at war with NOW? You people need to get laid!
The only reason why there were more viewers that night was because all the damn tv stations were covering it. The only part of the Republican convention that was a bit interesting was when Sarah Palin made her speech, she's a sassy little bitch!
I dont know about a great speaker but you dont have to make people ball-bag and rant to run a country. Steady and true……. thats all we need not a "show"
Re: LULU~* – Source? You gotta back up accusations, Sweetie.
Re: HippieMama – What are you doing on a COMPUTER, why dont you go grow something or make some granola or some shit.
I watched to make sure I was making the right decision backing Obama…and his speech confirmed it!
Re: hyde30 – AMEN on that! Something tells me she doesn't really know what she's talking about. Whoops!
Re: SWEETAZHONAAY –
I was being sarcastic,
I want John McCain and Sarah Palin to win.
SARAH PALIN FOR PRESIDENT 2012!
i wouldn't necessarily count more people watching as a victory. i think people just wanted to find out what sort of crazy sh*t he was going to say.
OBAMA 08!
Re: MadgeCiccone – Yea that's what it is-I haven't been laid in awhile. You're so smart.
touche!
Re: Nordic Blonde – Umm, listen you dumb blonde bimbo, war hero my ass. The only reason why he was in it was because his father. And lets not forget to mention that he was one of the worst in the group. The only reason he even let others go before him was because he knew he had to choice but to do that cause if he went home early from being trapped then he really would have been looked down upon even by his fam. So go somewhere else with that BS and have a tea party with some more of your blonde friends and come up with something bright to say
i wanted to see how high my thresh hold for pain was when "watching" mccain and palin. puke city! but, yeah, you can count me in as one fraction of a percent who also tuned into republican speeches.
Re: former M fan – Learn how to spell you idiot.
I already know I am voting for Obama. I have known that for over a year. That is why I did not watch the Dem National Convention. I did watch the Rep National Convention because I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about with this Sarah Palin, and to see her knocked up teenager and see her hottie husband. Then I watched McCain because the camera kept going to his equally creepy wife, Cindy.
Just because more people tuned into for McCain than Obama does NOT mean he is more popular. It's like the reason why so many people tune in for the Hills…not because it's good, but because it's so terrible that you can't take your eyes off of it.
GO OBAMA.
…people were hoping to hear something of substance…not what his wife's outfit cost. stupid f*cks. "Any Day Now" this country will get smart.
Re: RashManly – I love your sarcastic humor!! What a great way to maybe - hopefully - possibly cause a few people to stop and think!
Re: Damnit – agreed. and very nice avatar…
that killed you…didnt it prez? its because nobama is black that you like him…people think he will care about all the other blacks when he gets in office. HE WONT! he dont give a shit about anything but furthering his own career. IF by some fluke he wins, all the dumbasses that voted for him will eat CHANGE AND HOPE!
Re: Realist1 – BUT he was in a war, right?? Where the fuck are you? In some coffee shop sipping on your frapp-whip-mocha choco? In a computer cafe, possibly??
The only reason people watched was to see if he "Get's it"…. and the American people found out… "HE SURE THE F*CK DON'T…. Did you know Barry & Joe had nearly 90,000 folks in and out the DNC? all flavors, colors, sizes and shapes…. what THE REAL America is…
Watching the RNC was like watching a "Klan Rally" with well dressed "Stepford Wives…."
LOVE YA PEREZ… KEEP DOING WHATCHA DO! I HATE THAT I MISSED YOU WHEN YOU WERE IN SAN FRAN:(
There are TWO reason McCain beat Obama in the ratings:
1) Dems tuned in to BOTH DNC & RNC convention coverage b/c they are EDUCATED and want to see both sides fairly. The Republicans are so close-minded they don't even bother to check out how great Obama is - they are too scared.
2) Likely that way more Dems watched Obama from alternate media sources - like online streaming. Whereas GOP supporters can only watch on TV, using tinfoil as their antennas!
it is only because we all wanted to see how bad him and his wife did. it was not a good speech. i think people were flipping thru the channels and came across them speaking and fell right to sleep. so it looks like people watch but i know i watched it all and cant remember 1 thing he said it was so boring.
Re: momo3 – And lets suppose i am, who gives a fcuk? … Or am i not entitled to my opinion? .. how about u go sit on a rusty nail and jump 3 times on it while rooting McCain
WE WATCHED IN EMBARASSMENT AND MADE FUN OF HIM….WATCHING DOES NOT EQUAL A VOTE. SARAH PALIN'S PAGEANT WAVE THAT SHE HAD TO KEEP STOPPING HERSELF FROM DOING WAS PRETTY FUNNY ALSO. SHE IS SO UNCOMFORTABLY NOT READY FOR THIS. IS SHE GONNA FORCE LEVI FROM HIS FAMILY AND MAKE HIM MOVE FROM ALASKA TO D.C. ALSO? SHE IS A SELFISH, SICK, FAME WHORING, ANTI-CHOICE SON OF A BITCH.
Re: urrikahh – R U KIDDING ME YOU IDIOT. HIS PAST IS HIS DISADVANTAGE. HOW MANY OTHER AMERICANS HAVE BEEN TO WAR AND ARENT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT. LOTS BECAUSE THAT DOESNT MAKE YOU QUALIFIED.
because who doesn't want to tune in to watch a crazy person speak? that's the only reason he beat Obama!
his speech was full of lies. full of them. he was horrible. he is not presidential and i vote based a values and beliefs. i know that he was a pow but that doesn't mean he will make a great president. i only watched just to see what he would say everybody knows that he was a pow he did not need to say that he was a fighter in the war. he will do nothing for a change. he voted 90% of the time for bush's things. he voted against alternative energy. you have to read their websites pages on their issues.
