People are willing to pay big bucks for old Jimi Hendrix memorabilia.

The first guitar that Hendrix ever burned on stage just sold at an auction in London yesterday for $495,000!

It was his 1965 Fender Stratocaster guitar that he torched after his performance in 1967 at London's Finsbury Astoria.

Unfortunately for him, Hendrix had to be taken to the hospital afterward and treated for minor hand injuries.

The director of acquisitions, Ted Owen, at the Fame Bureua rock memorabilia firm which organized the sale described Hendrix's burning of the guitar as "a watershed in live performance."

As for the guitar, after the torching it was then taken to the offices of Hendrix's aide, Tony Garland. The guitar was later kept in the garage of Garland's parents' home in southern England.

It wasn't until last year that Garland's nephew found the guitar.

We still think half a million is a bit too much for a burned guitar, no?

  20. 20

It's not just any guitar, it's Jimi's! There will never be a greater guitar player. Hopefully this dude will find a good home for it where others can bask in it's gloriousness.

  21. 21

Jimmy Hendrix was a great guitarist, but not nearly as good as Jimmy Page. HI ANDY! LOVE YA!

  22. 22

You wouldn't say that about a busted piano that belonged to Mozart. Hendrix is one of the true musical geniuses of our time.

  23. 23

There was something very special about him,not to mention his talent that exceeded everyone at the time, Clapton for one,at that concert the Who, Clapton, and other famous bands were feuding back stage because nobody wanted to follow Jimi, They were all competing thier asses off, Jimi won with the fire thing. The Who were really intimidated by him. Clapton, not as much.

Do you younger kids know what the Hippie movement really was? It was a fight of course, to stop the Vietnam war, but the main reason was to stop the KKK, who had been dominating the Government. It was horrible. I know that is who assasinated the Kennedys & MLK, the same ones who assasinated Lincoln, after he freed the slaves. Many white assholes lost thier jobs after the slaves were freed and alot of the plantations went bust too because they had no one to work them, the KKK was formed after that, and they continued thier terrorizing, of anyone who was not a white protestant.
They were the ones who brought Charles Manson into the picture, because mainstream society was accepting this Hippie movement and wanting to change things too.
    please get out and vote.

  24. 24

One more thing, the protests in the 60's & 70's were about the abuse of the environment & global warming, they ignored " the Hippie Communist Pinkos"(whatever that meant),that it was becoming dangerous, there was a hole in the Ozone and needed to stop the abuse by the big corporations. Look at us now!

  25. 25
