A follow-up to the story we posted a couple of days ago!
"I KISSED A GIRL AND I LIKED IT AND THEN I WENT TO HELL," a church sign in Ohio read for twenty-four hours before it was removed.
In case you haven't heard the song at almost every club in Hollywood, it's a reference to Katy Perry's chart-topping single, I Kissed A Girl, and the sizzling video that accompanies it.
Pastor David Allison of Havens Corners Church claims he didn't put the sign up to draw attention to the church but as a warning to teenagers who might be influenced by the video, which he calls "lewd and suggestive." He says he thought the message would be a gentle reminder that the Bible denounces homosexuality.
But, his message was mostly misunderstood and after receiving confused e-mails and phone calls, the sign was removed on Thursday.
The folks in Blacklick, Ohio, just aren't that hip!
Kim Welter of Equality Ohio found the sign "jaw-dropping" and that while she maintains that the church has the right to broadcast their opinion on a reader board, she adds that the GLBT community will find more than 300 welcoming churches in Ohio.
Pastor Allison claims that his church welcomes the GLBT also but still believes it's a sin - so just remember to bring your brimstone-flavored ChapStick!

The Bible does'nt even say anything about women being gay. All the sexual laws were against men.

Jesus for life! The church is full of fakes but so is the rest of the world. That doesn't alter my faith in any way. We all have free will and are not supposed to judge others. If they are going to pick on gays they need to address all the other sinners in the church too. Why do some men bother to come to church when they know they just cheated on their wives the night before? Why do some women wear low-cut cocktail dresses, big hair and heavy make-up to church. Is it left over from Saturday night? Are they trying to pick up someone's husband? lmfao Why don't the pastors say anything about that?

It's actually a very nice, affluent suburb of Columbus. I saw the sign before all of the attention and laughed. The church is the size of a Subway restaurant. Don't let them flavor your opinion of the area.

I drive by this church everyday. Perez is right, Blacklick is just not very cool.

Katy Perry's I KISSED A GIRL is a song that ridicules real lesbians by cheapening their lifestyles into a silly drunken, party game. You'd think she'd be the HERO of groups like this.
I'm taking a a risk of being bashed but….In the Bible…it DOES say that homosexuality of any kind IS a SIN. But judging is too.

I've read the bible 500 times and not once did it say anything about homosexuality=sin=hell.
Okay I've never read through the whole bible, ever, but I'm still pretty sure about this one.
Besides you can't take that whole book literally. It was supposed to be metaphorical or something.
Some churches use guilt and the word "hell" way too much. Come on. If you fall for this stuff then I guess we're all going to hell one way or another.
Whether or not you are a churchgoer you have to admit that everyone is entitled to say what they want. I think having that song out in adult clubs is fine but on the radio where children can freely hear it is a little much. That being said there are ALOT of songs being played on the radio that kids don't need to hear. Katy Perry is letting her opinion be heard all over the nation right now. I don't think we should get angry that one small church is doing the same thing.

Ah hell, my name is everywhere on the net (matt-darby.com, etc). Small world indeed. It's a shame that if 51% of the area's population is ignorant, then 100% comes off as ignorant. I've voted for Nadar, Kerry, (and now Obama) and for gay marriage for naught. I stood in the rain for three hours to vote for Kerry.

You know, what gets me is that Christianity is supposed to be about LOVE. So, how can someone who has supposedly dedicated his life to teaching people about God's love justify putting up a sign that hateful? It totally misrepresents the Christian ideals and community. What was this pastor doing watching the video? Why was he watching something that would SHOW the video? Its signs like that church had that make me happy that I'll never go back to those type of people. So stupid.

Ugh I live by Cincinnati and it's bible country around here. When the Marriage Amendment was on the ballot that was all I saw on TV was to vote against gay marriage. It's disgusting. It's embarrassing to say I'm from Ohio. Everyone thinks hillbillies and sheds converted into churches.

I mean, this just goes to show how ridiculous religion can be! Rev. Allison said that he thought the message would be a "gentle reminder that the Bible denounces homosexuality." It seems to me that every church, in every town, in every country that believes this to be true forgets that in the same sentence that the Bible denounces homosexuality, it also condemns those who wear "clothing of mixed fabric." So to all those wearing a cotton/polyester blend, you better change, otherwise you're going to hell to! Ridiculous.
