Box Office Nojo

| Filed under: Film FlickersNicolas Cage

Hollywood films made crap money this past weekend!

According to reports, this weekend's earnings in the U.S. were the worst of the entire year.

In fact, it was the worst weekend in 5 years.

The highest grossing film was Nicolas Cage's shiteous Bangkok Dangerous at $7.8 million, which is much less than what was projected.

Looks like Nic just wasn't a draw at the theaters!

What kept U out of the movies this weekend?

Sunday night blocked off for VMA — (not as good as I would have hoped . . .) Perez, you looked fine.

  2. 2

I've already seen Wanted, so why would I want to see Bangkok Dangerous then ?

  4. 4

first i think its because movie tickets are wayyy too much money so i would not go out to a movie unless it was truly worthwhile to pay for and there arent any movies that come to mind that are even worth bothering to go see!

  5. 5

The VMA's sucked, the host was DREADFUL. Annoying and not funny

  6. 6

honestly…i didnt even hear that it came out/ what is it about anyway? plus not much of a cage fan

  7. 7

  8. 8

  9. 9

I saw no advertising for this movie - I didn't even know when it was coming out. Looks suck though.

    Let's see:
    Nic Cage fucked Lisa Marie
    Lisa Maries fucked Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson fucked…idk, Mc Cauley Culkin?
    Hmmm… not interested

more important things going on right now. Learning more about Mccain and Obama all weekend. Watching the tropics and the storms coming.

Re: harrybalsac – Hey Mr. Balsac

  19. 19

    Nothing worth seeing.

  20. 20

Ummmm…we are in an economic crisis, unemployment up, the worth of the dollar down, gas prices and grocery prices sky high…going to an over priced movie to watch overpaid actors and eat over priced popcorn and drink over priced soda…just not an option for many people these days.

  21. 21

Perhaps this has something to do with Hollywood making CRAP FILMS???

  22. 22

I never go to the movies, and I went on Saturday night to the late show…it was either see Nic Cage's movie or "Mirrors", and we chose"Mirrors". Btw, it sucked.

Re: Nurse Allison – You can call me harry.

  25. 25

Re: mandzie f baby – I agree. I'm the same, most of the movies that are out, I can wait until they come out on DVD.

  26. 26

I think the only reason it made that much was due to Nic…the film, although I have not seen it, looks crappy…no offense to Mr. Cage, of course. Who knows?…maybe it will kill in the DVD sales!

  27. 27

  28. 28

    Shitty movies?

And I've seen the Dark Knight twice.

  29. 29

Tropical Storm Hannah kept me out of the theater this weekend.

Im sure that and football kept people out.

  30. 30

Nothing really good in the movies theater, Im waitting for the new Al Pacino and Robert Deniro movie and Eagle Eye I love Shia and the movie that I reallywanted to see Harry Potter #6 was moved to July so yea nothing good I want to see.

  31. 31

I think i might be the only person on this site but college football kept me out of the theaters. GO GATORS!!!!

  32. Rynne says – reply to this

I don't know anyone who likes Nick Cage.

  33. 33

First full weekend of football, peeps! College football all day Saturday and NFL games all day Sunday!

  34. 34

Re: bk – im not sure how the tickets are sold in your area..but were im at…we have electronic kiosks were you can simply walk up to like an atm, order your ticket, pay with the credit card and it prints the ticket for you. well, when i choose which movie i want to buy, it gives you a choice of how many tickets you want and asks you whether or not you want adult ($9), child ($6.50) and senior ($8.50)…well you bet your ass i choose child bitch.

  35. 35

It looked exactly like wanted… The preview even had the same elements Wanted did… That and I went wakeboarding instead.

  36. 36

    Fucking football…that's what happened.

  37. 37

Cage needs to pick better movies. Think his multi-miilions and many houses, islands, mansions and castles have him distracted and not paying attention to good scripts.

  38. 38

Duh! A little thing called Hurricaines and tropical storm Hannah!

  39. 39

i went to the movies this weekend and all the movies out i had aldready seen or they sucked. luckily we were high so we watched disaster movie. no wonder reggie bush had that look on his face we he wlked out of the movie with kim. it was a disaster.

  40. 40

i do agree alot of people were watching football this weeekend. and that probably affected the numbers too.

  41. 41

Don't you know what's happening to the US economy Perez? People are skipping luxuries like crazy. Going out for movies is a luxury.

  42. 42

Seeing my husband off to Iraq!

A tad more important than going to the Movies, eh?!

Stay safe and hurry home 2/4!

  43. 43

I was at the movies on Saturday night in NJ- Saw "Transsiberian" and it was great. Of course, the theater was dead because of Hurricane Hanna. Noone wanted to go out.

Sunday was too nice to stay inside!

  44. 44

Re: DeBecks – Duh!!! If you weren't so freakin queer Perez you would have known the answer. College football FTW!

  45. 45

The same thing that's kept me out of theaters for the past 7 years: high prices, rude people, cell phones and food.

  46. 46

Hurricane Gustav kept all of southern Louisiana inside with no electricity. Most theaters still aren't opened back up! Pray for us with Ike because we might be out again this weekend!!

  47. lolli says – reply to this

wow. that movie TANKED! Nic cage is old, ugh.

  48. 48

Dark Knight (which I have already seen), crappy movies, or ones I have never heard of. The only thing I wanted to see was Pineapple Express but even that doesn't seem worth the money…just wait for the damn DVD.

  49. 49

The original is much better than the US version and normally I hate sub-titled movies.

  50. 50

Ummmm, UTorrent……..wait a week and you can see anything you want online……

  51. 51

people arent going to the movies cause the prices are so goddamn high!! its rediculous! its not nicholas's fault. maybe if they lowered the prices a little…

  52. Melf says – reply to this

it rained cats and dogs for the majority of the weekend!!!

  53. 53

i was at the movies all weekend actually. only becuz i work there tho. but bangkok dangerous did terrible. it's a terrible movie. and nick cages hair? oh hell no

  54. 54

Nic Cage has a new movie?!?!?!

  55. 55

I only go to movies that I really want to see now, because it's just too expensive. For the price of 2 adult tickets you can sign up for a monthly movie pass at ones of the video stores (Why do we still call them "Video" when everything is DVD? Our kids are going to have almost no idea what video is kinda like 8 tracks). So Anyway this year I've really only seen The Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder, Superbad, Prince Caspian, Kung Fu Panda…….I can't even think of anything else right now. but that is how bad the prices are, I have a Movie pass so I've seen Tons of movies at home. The Popcorn is cheaper, If there are crying kids I make them go to bed, It's easier to make out on my own couch, Free Refills, and No mysterious sticky floors. My Guess is that there are a lot of people out there that think like I do and that's why the box office sucks.

Re: amandadixon420 – "i went to the movies this weekend and all the movies out i had already seen or they sucked. luckily we were high so we watched disaster movie. no wonder Reggie bush had that look on his face we he walked out of the movie with Kim. it was a disaster"

That is the one my Husband wanted to see when we went out and saw Tropic Thunder, I told him NO. He asked the Clerk at the box office about Disaster movie, if it was good and you should have seen the look on his face, LOL He just looked at my Husband Like he had horns and his head was spinning. So your comment made me laugh. There was no way I was going to waste money on that , no offense. If I have to see it and judging by my husband's interest I will, It'll be on DVD.
