MTV's VMA Ratings Rocked

2008's MTV Video Music Awards delivered!
In the key 18-34 demographic, this year's show ratings were 15% higher than the 2007 broadcast and 41% higher than the 2006 edition.
The show was also the highest-rated telecast on all of cable in the 12-34 demo this year.

We guess casting the unknown Brit comic Russell Brand didn't bite the net in the ass!
MTV.com also saw a boost this year.
Its VMA-related pages delivered more than 10 million page views, a 110% increase over last year.
But, y'all know there's a certain someone MTV needs to tip its hat to for the massive ratings.

The show was the worst one I have ever seen, super boring and the direction was God awful.

Yeah, a lot of people may have watched, but that doesn't make the VMAs a success. I know a lot of people were disappointed and thought it was boring. And Where was the big surprise? Britney merely saying "welcome" wasn't much.

I watched the first half (tivo has the rest saved for me, viva la tivo) and… yes I did tune in to see what Britney would do. However, I thought that Brand guy sucked balls. He wasn't funny at all and it was very apparent the audience didn't think so either! I think its safe to say he BOMBED.

I don't believe in these ratings. We all should know media in general is bought and paid for by the major companies. Britney's awards were bought and paid for. Russell brand stole one liners straight from the mouths of the kings of comedy Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld. He rambled, ran out of breath. Tried to tell people in the united states to vote for obama. Anyone with a brain would have tuned in and tuned out in less than 20 minutes. The interviews were horrible short and not interesting at all. And the production level was the lowest of all time. Award presenters didn't seem to know where to go or what to do. The only reason why any major stars were there was because they got paid to be there. And the reason why they didn't have a real host was because every major star they offered it to, laughed at them and turned it down. MTV is a joke and on it's way out. This was pure garbage aimed at the mindless faction that is generation Y. This reminds me of the grammy's when whino got her grammy's paid for and then two days later hit the pipe again. Haven't we seen who britney really is? She'll be shaving her head again in no time.

I 100% agree! To be honest with you….that is the only reason I tuned in. To see Britney clean house, and that she did! But I was also under the impression that Britney was performing, and that's why I hung around. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but did the shows stage/production seem a bit cheap this year? Economy?? Maybe it was because they were on the Paramount lot?? don't know, but it seemed "small"……

I didnt watch but I got online to see if Britney showed of her big fat belly again. Girlfriend does not have any songs(that are worth hearing), not even close to a good video (HELLO she wasnt even in it??). We all wanted to see her fail and make an ass out of herself, pretty much. Bummer she didnt but she is no queen of anything, she is the flavor of the year, next year it will be somebody else.

I do think alot of people tuned in to see if Britney would perform with alot probably hoping she would bomb. But the majority of comments I've read all over the net have been disfavorable to the VMA's. Most people absolutely thought they sucked and I know I did too. If next years venue isn't back to a big stage and one big audience with better performers and a better host even the chance of Britney performing won't get me there.
Britney actually performed in 2007 and the ratings were less than 2008. Did people tune-in to see if she'd recovered?

The only reason she won was probably because MTV told her they'd give her all the awards if she came, since her last appearance was so embarrassing. Britney looked good and seems to be in a much better place, good for her. But let's be honest her album tanked, she didn't put much effort into it, and her video was average at best. She really wasn't worthy of those awards, they just wanted to boost her confidence. Everyone knows that wasn't the best video of the year.

The only reason I watched the VMAs was for the Jonas Brothers, NOT Britney.
MTV is still in the shitter and i'll tell you why. I can remember a time when the other networks would only have on reruns the night of the VMAs fearing everyone was only going to watch them. Now the other networks roll out new shows like HBO's True Blood because they know MTV is a weak bitch with all their pop shit.
What I don't like about the VMAS was that it was half assed! It was basically the Britney Spears Awards. As soon as I heard the host speak in a British accent, I was thinking about Britney's alter ego. LoL remember when Britney thought she was British?! running around town in that horrible accent. The bitch won over my girl Rihanna. And I don't even like Rihanna like that so pretty much that lets me know I'm pissed about the whole thing.
The venue was the size of some colleges' auditorium. They actually thought logical people wanted to hear the Jonas Brothers' sing Luvbug LoL
Lil Wayne's performance would have been better if people in the audience besides Chris Brown and T.I. cared about Hip Hop

I really watched it because of the jonas brothers,and they were really the only good part of the show in my opinion. I am glad Britney is getting it together though so congrats to her,even though the wins she got i think might have been fixed to promote her BIG comeback.
