Glue Foot In Mouth

Maybe Spike Lee will fare better by keeping his mouth closed!
The mouthy director has opened his mouth (again) and this time it's to say that his war of words with old timer Clint Eastwood 'cost' him an Oscar:
"My wife Tonya told me I may have hurt my chances with the Clint Eastwood stuff… They (Oscar voters and Academy bosses) take everything into account with me. They take into account that I like the Knicks or that I'm in New York."
He thinks his WWII film is THAT good, eh?
And yup, he went there. He thinks the Academy is anti-NY:
"If you did a survey, the bulk of the people who vote in the Academy are in Los Angeles. There's definite bias, considering that my films are typically New York-based."
He's also still upset that his movie, Do The Right Thing wasn't even considered for an Oscar, yet Driving Miss Daisy won that same year:
"Nobody is watching motherfucking Driving Miss Daisy today. Do The Right Thing is being taught in classes at major universities and high schools all over the world. That's how you're supposed to test art. Does the work stand up?"
Looks like someone needs awards to feel good about himself!

"Nobody is watching motherfucking Driving Miss Daisy today. Do The Right Thing is being taught in classes at major universities and high schools all over the world. That's how you're supposed to test art. Does the work stand up?"
isnt that BETTER than winning an Oscar???
ok
I liked him better as Mars Blackmon.
He is a joke these days.
…uh, nice glasses…
No–someone wants the recognition he DESERVES. He is absolutely right about "Driving Miss Daisy" vs. "Do the Right Thing." Hollywood is so behind the times on issues of race.
he looks like curious george's grandfather….no?
well he does bring a very good point. he reminds me alot of kanye west, big ol cry baby!
sounds defensive…
would someone please git LatinDaddy some Brit Brit news, he's freakin' out bad back there!
Spke says it like it is….And thats why we love him
These people need to get off their damn high horses and do what they do for the love of doing it, not for the awards involved.
he should be happy that his film is being analyzed in universities across america. just becuz u win the award doesnt necessarily make you the best.
I think you nailed it Perez!
Re: harrybalsac – who r you, and why is my name gettin typed by your fingers. i didnt give u permission to talk about me. woudl my dick in ur mouth make u feel better? cuz it sure looks like it would.
Awwwwwww!
Somebody buy him a pony! Oh, and a tiara. Quickly!!
That should make Mr. Diva feel better.
Re: wdfourty – i agree.
Re: LatinDaddy – You ok Dad? Starting to worry us.
waaaaa, why is he always crying like a little bitch, suck it up, btw i am not watching do the right thing or driving ms. daisy who cares
Re: LatinDaddy – Fuck you then, go wash my car!
I think this man is such a narcissist. I love Driving Miss Daisy!
What an Ass!! He should just shut his pie hole before he digs himself deeper in that hole!
I think he's 100% right!
lmao latin daddy if freakin hilarious….my dick in your mouth….rotflmao hahahaha
I agree with Spike!! His movies deserve recognition. They are brilliant. You go Spike!
yo why is this shit goin so dam slow today. perez why arent u posting comments faster.
Re: harrybalsac – ur mother. go wash ur ass.
Maybe if Spike Lee stops making mediocre and stupid films altogether and retire, the Academy may give him an Oscar of gratitude. I don't know why people see his stupid film. Is this dude even Edumacated? He is such an idiot. There is no logic coming out of his miniature brain. Fuck you Spike! Motherfucking you.
Just watched Driving Miss Daisy this weekend! Never have even seen Do the Right Thing???
Re: LatinDaddy –
trust bitch….I've tried tons of times….he just doesn't like it….
Aww him and Kayne should become fuck buddies and cry to each other.
He is SO right. I took a four separate film classes in college - a prestigious university - and Do The Right Thing was taught in ALL of them. I don't know exactly why or how the academy is out of touch, but they sure as hell are!
Do the Right Thing is one of the best examples of a good flick, the academy should just give him an oscar!
I AGREE WITH THE DO THE RIGHT THING COMMENT, BACK THEN THE OSCARS WERE NOT READY TO TAKE ON A RACIALLY CONTROVERSIAL MOVIE, BUT CLINT IS AN AMAZING DIRECTOR AND EVERYBODY HAS A HARD TIME COMPETING AGAINST HIM! YOU DIDN'T SCORCESE CRYING WHEN HE WAS PASSED OVER, HE JUST KEPT MAKING EXCELLENT MOVIES CAUSE THATS WHAT HE DOES AND JOKED ABOUT FINALLY GETTING AN OSCAR WHEN HE DID!
what happened to my comments?!
Please he is so right! He does deserve an oscar! He a definite voice for a generation and even an entire race. Malcom X= amazing!
I agree with him about the bias opinion of the award shows and how they come to a conclusion on who wins, I don't think he feels he needs an award to make him feel better but Spike has been in the business a very long time and his films are very artistic. I think that he just wants some acknowledgment for his contributions from others rather than just the African American community. The truth is that the reason he has not received that acknowledgment is because of his race and because he focuses on topic that others are afraid of focusing on. Example AIDS, racism, etc.
You skipped the part where he says it's all whitey's fault.
Spike needs a hug - paging Kanye West!!!
Re: wdfourty – Should be, right?
I like his movies, but he can´t expect people to give him all the awards at once. Anyway…you got, than fine…if you don´t…than…try again next year and stop saying stupid things.
The Oscars are not anti-NY, just anti-that was actually a good movie. I mean, Shakespeare in Love?? Seriously?? And let us not forget The English Patient!
BLAH!
Re: abercorey – yes, Curious George goes to Compton
hes just like kanye.
Sorry..but, who the fuck is this guy?
I have never even heard of him!
He's absolutely right!
Sorry fucker, but Driving Miss Daisy is one of my favorite movies of all time. Then again - your documentary on Katrina was fabulous. I hate to day it, but as much as I am a fan of your movies and found them, as a young white woman, insightful into Black and African American culture, you sound like the spoiled asshole Kanye West is. Just be happy with your success and how you have used your films to educate the world - not for a lame ass trophy.
i've never even heard of Do The Right Thing…this could be because i live under a rock but they sure as hell didnt teach it in any classes i ever took
Re: LettyB – I have to slightly disagree with you, toots. Not ready to take on racially controversial film in the late 80s/early 90s?? I mean, To Kill a Mockingbird(1962) was ALLLL about racism and it won 3 Oscars (Best Actor, Best Screenplay and Art Direction). It took place in the Depression Era, in the SOUTH about a young black man that was accused of raping a young white woman…and them good ol' Southern White boys wanted to hang the black man, guilty or not… There's been several films before Spike Lee that have racial content that have won and not won Oscars. But I do agree with you, he shouldn't be crying about it. I mean, it's just a "trophy"….if people wanna look at it that way
Re: harle – I AGREE, I HAVE SEEN MALCOLM X ABOUT FIVE TIMES AND IT IS ALWAYS GETS BETTER! IT WILL BE A EPIC MOVIE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME!
it's true though, I studied Do the Right Thing in film class at my univ.
Re: TattooedBettie – THERE WERE NOT DIRECTED BY A BLACK MAN, I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE ADDED THAT TO MY POINT. I AM SURE BACK THEN THAT WAS A FACTOR. THE OSCARS HAVE MADE SOME BABY STEPS IN THE PAST I AGREE, LOOK A SYNDNEY POTIER'S CAREER!
Re: wdfourty –
Pretty much! I agree. "Do The Right Thing" is worth more than one hundred Oscars…
Sore loser. Emphasis on "loser."
Could it be that most of the winners are from Cali because Hollywood is in Cali?? And actors, like others in different occupations like to live close to work. I hated Spike Lee before, now I really really hate and there's no way in hell that I'd pay to see his new movie. I hate it when the race card is pulled
He is so washed up and wants to stir up publicity. Driving Miss Daisy was a great movie that was about peacefully uniting the races. Do the Right Thing was about violently dividing them. He sucks.
I still watch Driving Miss Daisy…
LET ME TRY TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING: If all one wants to do is agitate in support of a racist agenda like Spike Lee does, that's fine. But in order to explore artistically the most subtle and ephemeral subjects of the human experience — and, really, it's all that's left to be done — one can't get side-tracked by such rote and two-dimensional and ultimately meaningless partisan stupidity as quotas, etc. Some people, mainly white people, don't want everything in art, politics and entertainment to be about race. There's much and many more important things.
yeah… as much as i like Spike Lee's work (he is, without question, the best documentary filmmaker working in America today, for reference, see "4 Little Girls" and "When the Levees Broke") he does get a little over the top sometimes. But not this time. Do The Right Thing is a vastly superior and more important work than Driving Miss Daisy.
To even hint that Clint is a racist, because he didn't show African American Soldiers (But the truth is that he did, they even showed that in Access Hollywood) is the dumbest act, is a horrible act. Fuck you Spike, there are real racist people in Hollywood but taking your fucking rage on Clint is stupid. You are not doing minorities a favor. You are just a fucking pumped up diva. If you want an Oscar so much, try to win it the traditional way, not the "because I'm black and I make movies too" way. Alfred Hitchcook never won an Oscar, Scorcese almost didn't. You and your big ass mouth shouldn't get any for sure.
Spike WHO???? He is such a nobody
Right. Hollywood hates NY.. that's why most of the people that can afford to have homes out there.. and hell, look at Woody Allen. He IS New York. He's disgusting as a person, but Hollywood will always love him because as a film maker, he's a monument. A NEW YORK one.
he needs to shut up!!!
I think he is right about "Do the right thing." That movie should have won Oscar instead of "Driving Miss Daisy."
Ha ha, asshole has millions and still gives a fuck about shit awards. total loser.
I never heard of Do The Right Thing…but I heard of Driving Miss Daisy! And I had no idea he had another movie coming out…I thought he retired! Maybe that's what the Academy thinks, too???
he does deserve an oscar! perez, why do you even question if his ww2 movie is gonna be that good? if he was a white director (say clint eastwood), perez you wouldnt be having this discussion?!
For shit's sake, stfu. It's always someone else's fault, isn't it? Your films don't win awards because they're racist and they SUCK.
If he respects the Academy so little, why would he want them to award him??
Hitchcock never won a an Oscar for best director either, but he's the first director you watch in film school, so what does that tell you
Interesting….well this is what he had to say at the Toronto International Film Festival (courtesy of Yahoo News):
"John Wayne is kicking Nazi ass and he's kicking Japanese ass. If it's a western, he's killing the savage Indians … I'm not trying to kill [Wayne's reputation], because it wasn't his fault, but he was built up to represent America," Lee said.
"We cannot continue putting out these lies again and again. Young people growing up have no idea that this stuff even happened."
The comments to that story is that alot of people are starting to think that he himself is racist. I'm not commenting on that, but it's almost childish.
Well, it's true that the majority of the time Hollywood gives Oscars to movies and actors that sucks (except last year's Oscars, when they almost redeemed themselves).
Since pretty much everyone is aware that the Oscar's is just a big love fest to the "it" people of the moment…(Gweneth Paltrow got one…give me a f-ing break. She's a TERRIBLE actress but all of Hollywood kisses her ass because they love her parents) he shouldn't act like he cares.
Re: vampyra – A 'fuckin' men
spike lee hasn't madea good movie in 20 years
Driving Miss Daisy is a gret movie. Do the right thing has more 'limited' appeal. He's too full of himself.
He makes great movies, but not every great movie gets an oscar. There are many wonderful films that have been overlooked. He needs to stop whining it makes him sound like an ass.
ive never even heard of the movie do the right thing
He's totally right though. Spike Lee is definitely one of the most significant filmmakers of the past 20 years. His directing skills are ground-breaking and his approach to the tough subjects he explores in his movies is so strong it's like a punch in the face. Do The Right Thing is a true classic, and so are many of his other brilliant movies. Malcolm X, Mo' Better Blues, 25th Hour, Crooklyn: Amazing. Beautiful. He totally deserves more recognition from the industry. Why he hasn't received an Oscar is just beyond me.
Sure, Driving Miss Daisy was a sweet movie, but Do The Right Thing is MAJOR.
Those of you who haven't seen it: where the hell were you hiding during the 90's??? Were you even born? Go rent it asap, you won't regret it!
Maybe his unpopularity has more to do with his ANTI-SOCIAL and offensive personality……………
I LOVE SPIKE LEE…
you all are not doing a thing to contribute to the art world, but yet still sit at your computer and talk shit?
Get a clue, as least hes been there done that, and you all havent
….and you Perez, making money off of talking shit about people…your gonna be a has been before you know it.
It appears Spike Lee went to the Kanye West school of assholes.
Its true they show Do The Right Thing at my university in Film Appreciation. He has alot of true points, but sometimes he might go overboard, but I dont doubt there are unfair actions or disadvangtes for him.
poo
go to you tube
type in "dagan dinner"
Perez..Your ignorance of current political and social topics is showing….once again.
He has a good point. It took Martin Scorsese forever to win an Oscar and he's all about NYC too.
So we have a class at my university called "American Film in the South."
And we watch "Driving Miss. Daisy"
We talked about "Do The Right Thing," though, in my "Great Performances on Film" class.
actually.. I'm a student at the California State University, Fullerton and "Driving Miss Daisy" was a required reading for one of my classes, and was also screened in class. So… yeah….. And also to give my two cents about the whole Clint Eastwood drama… I don't think Clint was being racist for not including black soldiers.. the movie is about the raising of the flag and the men who participated in that.. none of whom were black… it's then inaccurate for Spike Lee to call Clint racist.. it's a historical picture and fact is fact.. so Spike should get over it. Very immature on his part.
