Ye has dropped the studio version of his new song, Love Lockdown, which he debuted at the VMAs.
As we previously reported, Mr. West is releasing an album before the end of the year, in December.
We're not sure if this will be a single or not. It will be interesting to see how radio responds to the song.
It doesn't scream RADIO smash to us.
We like the song, but it's an artists song. A prestige piece. An album cut.
It's a risky move for Kanye to make but definitely ballsy. He has the whole world listening and this is the message he wants to convey.

LOVE this version of this song!!!! Usually, I get bored with a song and only listen to it for about 20 secongs before I shut the player. This one I ended up listening to the WHOLE way through!!!! LOVES.
As I just commented on this on Ye's blog, I guess I will add my 2 cents here too.
I love when Yeezy sings on his tracks, so I was excited when I saw him perform this on the VMAs. But this cut of the track is just terrible. I understand the raw feeling he was going for, but the vocals on the chorus are awful. The drums when he performed this on the VMAs were on point, where is that here?
And I am so dead tired of everyone using the voice synthesizer thing bc of Tpain.
It sucks bc the lyrics are great, he just needs to up the production quality here, a lot.

For once, I agree with you. This is an artist's piece to be appreciated by other artists, and if not that it's a song that should be used to string together other tracks on an album rather than released as a single. Kayne's maybe trying to make a statement with this rather than make it a smash hit?

I LOVED the VMA version, but the chorus on this track is all messed up. He's muffled during the most powerful part of the song. Is that on purpose? I don't understand why he'd synthesize the part with the rawest emotions behind it.

But T-Pain has always used that consistently as an artist and so now Kanye, Wayne and everyone are always biting that style.. I much prefer Kanye's regular voice, which isnt bad at all.

I love it- and I think at this point he can do what he wants and always have a hit. He is an artist. We need to remember that that's what music is. Music is art. Unfortunately the radio has killed the artist and brought out the cheesy showman in full force or the no talent hack that gets by on looks and stupid youngsters that won't appreciate real music until they are around 17+.

UFFFF!!!! i've been looking for this song like crazy since the VMAs!!!.. it's the greatest! my fav performance, you're right.. it's art, and I LOVE IT!!, i've been listening to the song from the videos in youtube but the audio is horrible.. and when i saw this post i was so happy!! i never comment, but this was worth the whole registration process.. It is such a refreshing thing to finally hear good music, radio is not everything.. i don't even hear the radio.. ever. I've never paid attention to Kanye until this song came along……… again: UFFFFF!!!!!

I'm a big Kanye fan but I have to say…he missed with this one. There are elements of the track that are as cool as can be…but as a complete song…especially a potential radio song….he is wide to the right.

coming from a ridiculously music-centric background, it's definitely an arty song in a way.
coming from a record label point of view, this is an incredibly risky song in general. but kanye is one of those artists where his fanbase will buy regardless. plus he's probably got a hell of a lot more pull with his label/contract than most artists out there because of his credibility.
it's a tough sell. the hardest part to digest (outside of the vocal distortion) are the vocals in the chorus. i get what he was going for, but it's rough, for sure.
This song is amazing. Kanye is an innovative genius. Reminds me Madge…reinventing himself a little. I really wouldn't be suprised if this does become a radio hit.

This song is a shitstorm. I thought it was awful at the VMAs, I was like really wtf is this. Whatever singing abilities kanye west has (which is little to none) is covered up/"enhanced" by a machine even more than Heidi Montag's songs. I love everything else he does but this is shiteoussss.

I think Kanye has written a song that is faithful to his unique sound and style; at the same time the song pays tribute to the great Nina Simone.
It's eerie how much he sounds like Nina at times–the song is something to be appreciated.

Ok It is stupid that people are saying he should stick to rapping because he might not have the greatest voice. In Bob Dylan's peak days everyone criticized him for not having a good voice either but he is a GENIUS! I agree music is an art form and Kanye is just creating more art and it sounds awesome at the same time.
They'll do a remix dance version and it'll be set for the radio!
Kanye sucks
Its a great song but it was definitely better with out the synthesizer. I felt like it was so raw and you could feel the emotion when it was live so much better. I feel like in this version he is trying so hard not to mess up his vocals that its sounds too constrained. In the VMA's he was in the moment, singing with more heart and in my opinion delivered more effectively. That said, its a brilliant song and shows his depth and genius as an artist! Love it!
