Is it me, or are these James Bond movies much darker than the traditional Bond films?
The traditional Bond films have a lightheartedness and humor to them, while still being smart and interesting, and that's what makes them so popular. It's what makes them "BOND".
These don't FEEL like Bond movies to me.

I LOVE this guy! Best Bond since Sean, hands down. I just love the fact that he gets the crap kicked out of him so hard. Gritty, way more "real" and believable than any other bond actor (direction as well) ever. Sigh, now I'm left here sitting at work, daydreaming at half-mast…
