Miniature dachshund gnawed off owner's toe while she slept
An American woman says her beloved miniature dachshund gnawed off her right big toe while she was asleep.
Linda Floyd said her beloved Roscoe has since been put down because of safety concerns.
The 56-year-old says she has no feeling in her toes because of nerve damage from diabetes. She discovered the toe missing after waking from a nap.
A vet said that because the toe had been bandaged due to an ingrowing nail, it may have somehow attracted the dog.

This happened here in Kentucky too. The owner was paralyzed from the waist down and the dog was a pit bull puppy. The pup chewed off the man's toes while he slept, however in that case the owner chose to keep the dog since it was not considered an attack and he felt the dog was no threat. I don't feel that this dog should have been put to sleep, it was just being a dog and wanting to chew on something.
How could you sleep thru that?

The dog seriosly might of thought it was food or something, he chewed, didn't attack. I hate it when people put their dogs down when it is their fault. Feed the dog, give it chew toys, or just make it sleep somewhere else, while she was sleeping, if she had putrid stuff coming out of her toe.

That's crap. I bet that dog never did a single thing before this and they put him to sleep. the dog had a normal attraction to the site. the damn thing doesn't know any better. I've had dachshunds since i was little and none of them remotely did that. my brother has been dealing with an injury since 2000 and has had bandage this whole time and not one of them have continued to touch it after they are corrected.

I have worked as a manicurist/pedicurist, for years…and, I HIGHLY recommend to my diabetic clients, NOT to ’round off' the toenails. Instead, clip and file the nails straight across, and EVEN with the end of the toe. It may require more grooming….but, it alleviates ingrown nails, which CAN cause gangrene, and amputation.
