Jade Checked In for 8-hour Cancer Operation
English reality staple Jade Goody checked into the hospital Friday morning for an eight hour operation. According to reports, surgeons will 'fight to save her from the grasp of cervical cancer'.
The Big Brother star's rep said the following about her operation:
"It will either be a radical hysterectomy which will take eight hours or it will be another operation called smoothing the glands. It depends on what they find when they go in. If it is the smoothing the glands operation it will take around four hours. We hope it will be the radical hysterectomy because that means the cancer hasn’t spread. In that case she will be in intensive care for about 24 hours. We’ll find out in the evening when we speak to her surgeon. She is unconscious at the moment and it’s all going on as we speak. I spoke to her last night and she was as comfortable as possible and trying to be positive but was obviously feeling very scared as any 27-year-old in that situation would. She is in the best possible hands."

did she never ever go to a gynecologist? cervical cancer is so easy to prevent in the developed world. if she had gotten her yearly paps, the doctors would have learned that she had HPV and monitored it as it progressed. there would be no need for this!

i've never heard of a radical hysterectomy taking 8 hours.. i guess they lied to us at med school.. rarely would she go to intensive care post-op.. me thinks they're exaggerating a wee bit..

a 'radical' hysterectomy does NOT take 8 hours!! i had a huge 9# tumor growing from an ovary and i had that removed and a total hysterectomy and it took an hour and a half! 1.5 hours!!! Is she also getting some lipo and/or breast work done too?? 8 hours makes no sense. something else is going on there.

P—-Please FACT CHECK! When I had cervical cancer (10 years ago) it was removed with a procedure called a LEEP. I had about 30% of my cervix removed. My gyno did it in his OFFICE and it only required novacaine (in my cervix). It has never come back AND I'm carrying my THIRD child!!! Was her cervix rotting from the inside out or WHAT!?!?! I agree with fghjkl…..did this skank EVER go to a gyno?? P-U-B-L-I-C-I-T-Y-S-T-U-N-T!

i doubt she'll be in intensive care… it's probably more like "recovery" and no way in hell it should take 8 hours….. brain surgery takes 8 hours (or longer), and that is NOT brain surgery. and on behalf of the bitch in me : she is one THICK ass bitch (not in a good way)

i know it's been said but wow, when i first saw this i thought someone had photoshopped Jessica Simpson's face on a bigger body…
when i was 19 i had an almost 9 hour long surgery. i had thyroid cancer and it had spread to surrounding lymp nodes. to top it off, i was pregnant. it was a long tough battle, my cancer has returned and it's scary for those who love you and you yourself. hang in there Jade, it's a long strange trip…

Cervical cancer ..is caused by HPV8 ( human papiloma virus ) which is transmitted sexually and is one of the viruses that causes Genital warts..

HPV8 which is the strain that causes cancer .. IS transmitted sexually..
other non cancerous hpvs are transmitted that way and dont do anything .. others make warts .. but at the end of the day .. they are ALL viruses of the same family…

Yes the HPV virus is solely sexually transmitted but ANYONE can get it and anyone who's had unprotected sex will have a high chance of contracting it. That means you and your long time partner or your husband/wife etc if you or your partner have had previous unprotected sex or you decide to go unprotected i.e if you're on the pill or trying for a baby.
Jade was stupid and has admitted to the press that she ignored several warnings from smear tests that she needed to have abnormal cells removed beacuse she was "too scared" That is idiotic BUT she DID leave it and the cancer has potentially spread - this is perhaps why her operation will take so long. They think she may have extensive cancer and are hoping she deson't. She has 2 children already so at least she has already made that choice and it isn't too horrific that she can't have anymore kids.
By the way she has lost loads of weight-that's an old picture. she now has long natural (not extensions) black hair so that very short blonde hair is at least 3 years old.. Please stop being such ignorant bitches about cancer. It affects everyone in different ways and well done to all who have survived it but at least don't pick fucking holes in someone's diagnosis and treatment that's just massively unfair and quite frankly stupid. here's hoping she does ok.

all you Americans need to remember that our medical care system is not nearly as good as yours, therefore the operation may take longer than you think. also in the UK routine smear tests are only done every 4 or 5 years and in England you don't have to have one done until you are 25, she is only 27 so she could have gotten HPV when she was younger. in Scotland the age for a first smear test is 20 but they are still only every 4 years, not yearly.

she had had a few abnormal smear tests results (as someone else said) and chose to ignore them. You routinely have tests after each pregnancy in the UK, so she would have had 2 at least before the age of 25. Just saying
Pardon my English, but I gotta call bullshit on this one. A radical hysterectomy as cancer surgery is a more involved procedure, but being told it would take 8 hours sounds like a stretch. Surgical complications could take a lot more time, but a hysterectomy is a fairly, pardon the pun, cut-and-dried procedure. Her surgeons would have a good idea of exactly what they need to do with pretesting.

this makes me sick… I had a hysterectomy - and it was radical - my insides were all stuck together - they had to cut it away from my bladder and bowel. It didn't take 8 hours - it took 2, and that was a LONG TIME for a hysterectomy.
She's a publicity seeking hound. Please stop helping her to get what she wants. If her cancer was SOOOOO bad, why did she take a holiday with her jailbird boyfriend, after leaving the TV programme so urgently, before she went for treatment. And routine smear test in UK at 3years! Even after my hysterectomy I still get them.

I cannot understand the ignorance around cervical cancer. Paps only detect 70-80% of it, and once it goes invasive, meaning it enters into your glands, the 5 year survival rates hover around 65-75%, meaning, 25-25% of people die. If it spreads to the bladder, lung or other areas, the survival rates drop even further.
