Madonna's Wembley Gig Crucified by Fans
We love her, but - by many accounts - Madonna failed miserably to impress her non-A-list fans at her London concert on Thursday.
In fact, a number of reports like this one and this one called the show a disaster!
We also received quite a few emails from disgruntled fans in attendance at Wembley.
Perezcious reader, John, tells us :
Was a disaster.
Noone could see the stage, or the video screens.
She came on 1 hour late, and couldnt be arsed. Mimed 98% of the gig and due to her being late, left 40,000 people stranded with no transport links in west london. Dont know about anyone else, but it took me 6 hours, 3 cabs, 6 buses and £100 to get home….
Another Perezcious reader, James, also expressed his displeasure with Madge:
…I wasnt prepared for the awful sound quality. When the show started everyone around me was shocked for the poor sound quality in the stadium. All we could hear was a buzzing noise. I couldnt understand what she was saying and it took me about a minute into each song to actually understant what song she was singing. Also watching her singing in the screens i realised that the sound was coming to us with 1-2 seconds delay. It was just a big awful mess. I dont know how the sound was in the arena area but on the upper stands of the stadium the sound was appauling. And we aint talking about a few hundreds of people being affected. Around 30.000 people must have been sitting on the upper stands. Also the atmospehere because of that and because of the stage being so far was really cold amongst the fans. You know the feeling when you are passing outside a concert and you can just here the songs with that buzzing noise? It felt like that and it didnt feel like we were inside a concert event. People around me started leaving just after 45 minutes (of a 2 hour show) and just after the hour they were leaving in masses, You could see the dissapointment. For such a bad sound and visual quality you would expect tickets on the upper stands to go for $20-30 just to fill the space. But instead tickets were going for $150 to $300. Seems that Madonna knowing that her fans would kill for a ticket and sell out the venues, replaced the quality of "smaller" arenas of 25.000 people with the quantity of 80.000 stadiums. I also left before the show ended. I read that she was really angry when their were problems with her giant screens in her concert in Nice as she is a perfectionist. I would forgive it if the screens werent working in London. But to not be able to hear the music in a music concert is really unforgivable.
James also went on to say that the UK's Times review was on point when it wrote:
Madonna was least convincing when she grabbed a guitar for a rock remake of Borderline and a dreadful Ray of Light marred by shrill, brittle vocals that surfaced sporadically throughout the 90-minute set. She even spoilt Hung Out with faux metal guitarist antics that set women in rock back about eight years.
In its review of the Madge gig, The Daily Mail also makes mention of the transportation problems fans faced due to her late start.
It really sucks to be a regular Joe.

If your voice isn't good enough to sing live then perhaps you're not talented enough to be a professional singer. I would not pay several hundred dollars for a ticket to go to a concert just for the "privelege" of seeing someone with an overinflated ego jump around on stage with some fancy light show lipsynching to their CD played over some speakers. I can sit home and listen to a CD for *free*
I never see the point of going to a concert. Big deal you're in the same stadium with the supposed "star". They're usually so far away you can't even see them without binoculars and most don't even actually *sing* live, except for people like Celine Dion who have actual talent. A ticket to a concert for a lip-synching "singer" is tantamount to being defrauded and is a total waste of time and money. What exactly are these stars being paid for again?? They don't really sing, choreographers make up the dance moves, professional song-writers write their songs, "lesser" musicians play the music. So basically I'm expected to pay several hundred for a ticket to see a totally conceited talentless person prance and pose on stage like their God's gift to the world? I think I'll pass.

Are you people drinking rubbing alcohol? Madonna has performed Sticky and Sweet, eight times, to RAVE reviews. Madonna is the performer, not the sound or technical engineer. If you think technical problems are the performer's fault, then you are TOO STUPID to find your way to and from home. As is was the case in London. Oh, and that's just a bad shot, and P knows it. That's why he chose it. Madonna's arms are in better shape than mime, and I'm pretty damn fit.

I'm glad I didn't buy a ticket to her concert. I seriously wanted a ticket to Madge's concert a few months ago. But I'm glad I kept my money cuz now I'm reading all these reviews about how awful her concert is. Besides, there's alot of things I could buy or several different events, like Conventions, that I could go to with that money. Madge just wants to make a quick buck. She knows she has die hard fans all around the world. I mean, the woman is a legend. She's the Queen of Pop. And I would like to see her in concert at least once. But at this rate, it ain't gonna happen unless someone buys me a ticket. I ain't payin' no $500 just to see some has-been 50 yr. old woman show up late to her own concert just to prance around on stage in skimpy clothes w/ bad sound quality. I want a damn good show and damn good seats for that amount of money. I went to Gwen Stefani's concert last year and I only paid $100 for 6th row tix. And I was satisfied with the whole 2 hours of the concert. Talk about a good deal!

I saw her in Nice and she was amazing, yea I was pretty far away and relied mostly on screens to see her, but what's she supposed to do? she can't make herself larger! Her costumes were fab, she sang well, there were one or two tech issues but she handled it with poise and humor and it was a great concert. I'm sorry about what happened in London but it must have been a fluke.

Yay, i went to see her last night at Wembley. and very true 30,000 people looking for public transports to get home. it was a completly caos. it took me 4 hours to get home. But for me it was sooo worth it!!!! i LOVE her. And would do it all over again!!!! no doubt about that…;)

I was there last night on the pitch, up close to the lady herself and she was absolutely amazing, no sound problems, no lip syncing, just pure Madonna heaven.
I understand that touring can be a tough job because it's one show after another and it's constant travel. However, for the amount she charges and how much she's getting paid just to dance and sing, it's completely inconsiderate and makes me hate her even more than I already did. You need to change your standards too, Perez. You're defending her all the time and are in denial about what trash she actually is.

1) She is not responsible for the sound system inside the venue! Many artists have had problems with the Wembley Stadium sound system! Technical problems are not HER fault! Blame Wembley or the technical crew. It's like she bolted up the speakers herself!
2) Can these people make up their mind about her vocals. One man says she lipped 98% and the other complains about shrill vocals! Which is it!?!
3) Everyone knows basically that she ALWAYS comes on late… she has never actually started a show on time, EVER!
I have seen the show twice (Amsterdam and Dusseldorf). From third row! And it's FUCKING AMAZING! This woman delivers 2 hours of full on hardcore entertainment. She dances her ASS off (putting her dancers at shame who are half her age), sings mostly all of the songs live and has THE most amazing stage presence any artist has! I can't wait to see her next tour!

Oh just STFU! For your information I was at TWO shows of this tour, and you DARE to complain about her holding out the mike to the public and make them do her job based on a "clip you saw". I'm a proud Madonna fan and capable of being critical of my idol, but I can honestly say she entertained the shit out of me during this tour and I am slightly offended that technical difficulties that were the fault of the venue are blamed on her in person! Had there not been any technical difficulties, then there would not have been a hate campaign against one of the biggest entertainers in this world EVER!

Uhm, Mariah had to cancel dates on her previous tour since they didn't sell any tickets and those tickets were priced more then half of what Madonna is charging. More so, Madonna's latest album has outsold Mariah's latest album by more then a million copies! Madonna OWNS touring! She is breaking records all over the place, so next time you even dare to say something, get your facts straight or I'll have to slap you in the face with figures and facts again!
I paid over 300. dollars for my tickets for the Las Vegas show and if I could not hear the music and it sounded like shit I would totally complain and demand my money back. If not then I would boycott Madonna

This is the first time since the tour started that there were problems with the sound system! There have been technical problems with parts of the stage, but those seemed to have been solved. Hey, I went to the London concert last night. I was 5 ppl from the front and had a great night!!! Yayyyy!!!! had a great time….vogue was AMAZING! BUT….I've also been to last 2 gigs, Live Eight, and her play in London…and her vocals were off, the dancing, production and all black costumes were somewhat slapped together and it didnt have the soul her previous concerts projected…long and short of it, what do ppl expect from an album she didnt give a shi+ about…this tour is blantantly a bridge in her career, it was to say f-u warners for the maverick deal going to shi+…honestly, it's the last of a legacy at a time where she has released important films, is looking to adopt a new child, her brother has betrayed her….and quiet frankly, we're prob lucky she has even bothred to do a tour…but my friends who paid £180each are BITTERLY disappointed…I paid £90 and was stood dancing at the front…anyways, Madonna can't be expected to be "200%" very time. I think her 100% was good enough for me this time around.. muah muah xx

I never thought I would say this about anything Madonna does, but the Wembley performance WAS REALLY bad.
The delay in the sound sucked, and the seating was sooo bad! We had the highest tier seated tickets but were so far away, people looked like tiny dots on the stage. At some points, I couldn't even tell which of the dancers was Madonna, although she is the only one with blond hair. I felt especially bad that 2 of my friends traveled all the way from the Middle East to see the concert.
Also, to be honest, the show itself is not great. It's an amazing production (when it works with no glitches), but it's a mere repeat of the "Confessions" and "Reinvention". The same format, same dancers, same type of costumes, same type of dance moves. It could have been the same show, but with different songs. I was hoping for a lot better and some innovation. Looks like she is doing more of the same and that’s not the Madonna we love.
This is such bullshit, I saw the show in Amsterdam and London and both times it was fantastic and everyone around me loved it with no complaints. A couple of cheapskates who would only pay for a seat in the rafters moaned that the sound was crap. They shouldn't be so tight and have paid for ticket on the floor. Don't believe what you read about this.

Ah forgot to tell you, on Wednesday Gloria Estefan had a BRILLIANT concert in London at Wembley Arena, the sound was fantastic and Gloria showed her fans that she still got it and that she doesn't need to make silly Yoga positions to keep her fans happy, just good music and talent are needed it.

I was at the London show….and as always……. she rocked! Maybe we were the lucky ones being on the pitch. We had no problems with sound or the videos being out of sync. My one criticism would be, the stage could have been a bit higher but it certainly didn't spoil it. I didn't see "thousands" leaving early, judging by the "10s of thousands" leaving at the end. Yes it was a bit of a nightmare getting to the tube station, but to me that was just bad organisation by London Transport. What on earth did they expect to happen with 90, 000 people decending on one tube station?! Reports had already circulated that she was late on at Cardiff, so why didn't people expect this for Wembley and make allowances? We did, parked 3 stops away on the tube, within 1/2 an hour we were back in the car and heading home having had a fantastic time. One other thing, how can these people say she was miming, when they have already said the videos were out of sync, how could they tell?!! Anyone going to the next shows, ignore the bad reports…..you'll love it!
