How about to a pet that's not yours?
Well, one very lucky cat owner owes a lot of thanks to a Massachusetts firefighter.
Fireman Al Machado rescued a cat from a burning apartment and that's when he noticed the kitty couldn't breathe and needed air.
Machado then began to perform mouth-to-mouth on the cat as he was carrying it outside.
The cat, a tiger angora, thankfully survived the fire, however two other cats died.
Luckily no humans were hurt during the blaze.
Two dogs were also saved with the help of oxygen from the paramedics and animal rescue personnel. Other pets were rescued too, including a ferret and some frogs.
Good thing the frogs didn't need air!
As for the cause of the fire, apparently two former tenants of the building were arrested and charged with arson.
And, at the end of it all, when Machado was asked what it tates like to give mouth-to-mouth to a cat, he laughed and said, "Like fur."

Well I don't think that was "dramatic" footage, but that sure was a nice gesture from the firefighter! That was the right thing to do..I would do it for my kitties, too! They are my furry kids!!

I was absolutely shocked to hear New Bedford in the news as I grew up in Dartmouth, which is the next town over. It's a place that no one has ever heard of, no one has been to, and there is no reason to ever go there. Glad to hear there are people doing some good in the community there.

My dog drowned a few years back in my swimming pool, I saw her at the bottom of the pool I just jumped in and took her out, she wasn't breathing anymore. But still I did mouth to mouth and she is alive! It was a scary moment!

I hope he's given a medal. What he did was very heroic and sweet. I would definitely do it for my cat or anyone else's. I couldn't stand by and do nothing.

Good for him, and thankfully the cat is well. FFs save lives, no matter what type.
Just to point out, I was kinda joking, we use masks for CPR on people (if there is time to use one) the throwing up another poster mentioned? Not uncommon at all. Just saying.

I was a firefighter for a few years and the very 1st fire I worked on, the Captain, a fire paramedic, gave mouth to snout to a family's golden retriever and even dropped a peds airway in when they got to the truck and bagged for about two minutes before the dog regained consciousness. When the dog sat up everyone, including myself, was just blown away! He just calmly said 'A life is a life and that's what we do.' It was the only time I ever saw it done in person, but I've seen it done a few other times in the news. It was one of the most awesome things I ever saw done while working there!
AWWWW GOD BLESS AL MACHADO!! Regardless of his age I want to know if he is single!! I would absolutely 100% do CPR or anything I could for anyone's animal. Anyone who says no is heartless and I wouldn't save their ass if it was them!!

AHHH perez I fucking love you this is a good friend of my moms!!!!!!!!!! I served him drinks at the Foxy Lady (local strip club) OMG I FUCKING LOVE IT I AM GONNA DIE! This is amazing I love you I am so happy this is here!!! Seriously I know this guy!!!! I literally know him from a strip club its the funniest story when he saw me at my moms work and neither of us wanted to tell my mom where we knew eachother from!!!!
And a little hint for anyone caught in a situation where you have to give mouth to mouth to someone you don't know. If you don't have a mask (obviously), you can at least use a very thin, porous t-shirt (do not use a towel) , or something similar to put over their mouth. It Will NOT protect you from disease or much of anything, but it is better than nothing. People sometimes cough, or other things during the process and it helps a bit. The best advice is to know basic 1st aid/cpr and carry a disposable mouth to mouth mask in your kit. Only a few bucks and you can easily get them on-line, or at most medical supply stores.

I'll admit that I have given one of my dogs mouth to mouth before. Unfortunately he didn't survive… he drowned in my swimming pool in the middle of winter. Sad.

i once revived a baby bird when i was little, i just put my 2 fingers around the beak and put a little puff of air- and you could see the lungs go up and down because it had see through skin and no feathers yet- it actually came back alive:) very cool experience:)

Good old Massachusetts. Where people have heart amd the majority votes Democrat. In red states, they'd just shoot the cat and be done with it. Why waste tax dollars on a FF saving a feline life when we have much more important needs — like spending billions blowing up people we don't know for oil?
