Will The Chicks Heart This Flick?

harrywinston.jpg

Is it really all about the ring?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to the book Chasing Harry Winston, which was written by Devil Wears Prada scribe Lauren Weisberger.

The book tells the story of three women in New York — a daughter of a supermodel, a rising star in the publishing business and a newly single female — who vow to change their lives for 'the better' in the course of a year.

Judging from the book cover that means better=engagement?

Sounds like a Sex and the City rip off to us!

Do U think you'll see the Harry Winston flick?

Re: peachy pie – Is there fuzz on that peach?

  7. 7

I've read all of Lauren Weisberger's books and I luved them all, after the sucess of The Devil Wears Prada she'd be pretty dumb not to turn them into movies! Its all about the benjamins baby!! xD

  8. 8

Later haters, have a good weekend! Lettyb stop eatin' out of the cat box!

  9. 9

I saw Mr. Big shopping at the Kmart on Maui last night. (I was buying a Jaclyn Smith outfit). He could use some botox and some gym time.

  11. 11

of effing course, nth better than sth that u already know how it is gonna be…, to relax… but the poster i hope it is a joke!!

  12. 12

Yes i would go see it if they produced it the same fashion as "devil" and had it styled by Pat Field.

  13. 13

it's the same plot as :"Chasing Papi" just with white characters. boo…rip off!
and it is sex and the city meets chasing papi

  14. 14

I'm sure it will be made with the same quality as The Devil Wears Prada. In other word it will probably be fabulous! The book was great and actually was not about a better=engaged at all- which you would know Perez if you actually read part of the book or any reviews of the book!

  15. 15

    Re: harrybalsac

    lmao i love you…bye bitch

  16. 16

I read the book, it was mildly entertaining, not terribly well written. I probably wouldn't pay to se the movie, but might watch it if it came on HBO one night when nothing else was on ;)

  17. 17

    Re: Swimstud

  22. 22

All I know is that I worked at a used bookstore and in the fiction section… and I have gotten this book a few times. Will definitely be pricing it a little higher now.

  23. 23

    I read this book… it's quite good! :)

  24. 24

im reading this book now….nd its amazing!! it rele isnt just about engagements nd weddings…its a rele good book!!!

  25. 25

I might wait for the DVD

  26. 26

The book to film translation of the Devil wears Prada was so horanus that it was shameful. Who cares if it had wonderful casting, they ruined the story by removing all of the character's actual motivations for her actions to the extent that it was a giant piece of fluff.
I am so not motivated by another one of these fuckers.

  27. 27

Oh def this was a great book. It is not all about getting married its about bettering yourself.

  28. 28

Yes. I need some intellectual stimulation after this election play-by-play.

  29. 29

Re: abercorey – kidding about JS, not even for Halloween. There's no Target here and I needed laundry detergent.

  30. 30

i read this book already and it's fab, nothing like sex in the city, it stands out on its own. don't let the book cover fool you either! it will make a great movie, i wonder why they didn't pick up on her other book "everyone worth knowing" that is a great book aswell.

    can't for the movie!

  31. 31

The book is pretty good…I read it as soon as it came out. You should always read the book first. :)

  32. 32

I read the book this summer, and I have to say that the real message of it is that it isn't all about the Harry Winston. I really enjoyed the book, and will be looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.

  33. 33

It's not a rip off…she wrote Devil Wears Prada, they are all similar. Career oriented women making asses over themselves for men, all for the wedding ring.

    34

I actually just finished this book last night. For me, it was quite boring and lacked substance. However, I think it would work perfectly on the big screen because it takes place in numerous cities throughout the world which would be aesthetically pleasing. Also, there are a bunch of attractive men in the book, so women will definitely enjoy that aspect of the movie. It will be a good movie for girlfriends to see together due to the book's main focus on the womens' friendship within the duration of one year. I'm sure that this instance will be one of the few where the movie is actually better than the book and I will most likely go see it.

  35. 35

I read the book and one of the main characters is the spitting description of Gisele Bundchen. Even has her accent. Wondr if they will try to get her. It was pretty okay. I did like the Prada story better.

  36. 36

haven't you advertized this book on the right side of your site for like a year?

  37. 37

    More like first wives club

  38. 38

i know you have because i've been eyeing that top ring forever

  39. 39

    of course ;]

  40. 40

i read the book and i didnt really like it! it was too predictable. the devil wears prada was much better!

    41

such an adorable book, definitely go and see this movie!

  42. 42

omgggg absolutellly..i'm reading the book rightt now and i lovee it tooo!!

  43. 43

I read this book and I LOVED IT! It is NOT like Sex and the City and the book is NOT about the engagement rings. Can't wait for the movie! Woo hoo!

  44. 44

The Devil Wears Prada (as a book) was depressing. Film far better - radical changes made it more upbeat.

Chasing Harry Winston, IMO, was such a boring read. I skipped so many pages with her the unimaginative unlikeable characters; I couldn't wait to get the book over and done with. I bet the film is far better than the book: mainly cos it will get completely rewritten.

  45. 45

the heel things has been done b4 ..come on they need to be a lil more original!

  46. 46

No! Sounds too close for comfort!

  47. k-lee says – reply to this

    47

i have not read this book, but i loved the devil wears prada so i'm gonna give it a shot

  48. 48

this should be quite a good film cos the book is rely good.
you gotta read it though to understand the title
i will defo go see it will my gal pals

  49. 49

She was a one-trick pony. The book is a snooze-fest.

  50. minka says – reply to this

    50

Tired of all stories of the boring, beautiful girl who loves shopping and spends all her limited money and more to look fabulous and find some equally vapid male who also loves spending money so that they can spend time with fabulous people at fabulous parties being fabulous. So formulaic and dull.

  51. 51

this book completely sucked. she lost all her talent after devil wears prada.

it's a shitty novel that reads like a daydream of some star-struck, backwater teenager.

  52. 52

Re: April Rain – haha, couldn't have said it better.

  53. 53

does she get paid for the product placement in her book titles?

  54. 54

The book is really well done! If they get a good crew for the movie, it should be a good one! Hopefully they don't slaughter it…

  55. juju says – reply to this

    55

i've read the book and it's pretty good. i think the movie should be good too. the devil wears prada was well translated into a movie.it's not like sex and the city at all.

  56. 56

one of my absolute favourite books. it will be an amazing movie!

  57. 57

    Hey perez!

I read the book and its really good so HELL YES i will c this! she did such an amazing job with the devil wears prada that this one will surely do good!

  58. 58

the book was really good, you can't go wrong with writing about a girl and her girlfriends! I can't wait for the movie.

  59. neets says – reply to this

    59

I read the book and it was fantastic!
    looking forward to the movie:)

  60. 60

Depends on who is in it. I would like to see…. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Lui reunite from the Charlie's Angel days for this one!

  61. 61

OOO so exciting! I've read the book last week, and it was sooo good. One of the best I've read in a while. If they find some good actresses for the movie, it's going to be fantastic! Definitely not a SATC (that book sucked ass by the way) rip off.

  62. 62

By the way, the book is called "Chanel Chic" in Belgium (that's where I live), very weird because it has nothing to do with Chanel. I guess they wanted a sequel to the Prada-name?

  63. 63

Yes! I loved the book and this news makes me very excited. =)

  64. 64

I CAN'T WAIT.. the book was soooo good! hopefully it's not a shitty book to movie thing though

  65. 65

Yes, reading the book right now! Love it so far!

  66. 66

I loved this book! And its definitely different than Sex and the City

  67. 67

it was a great book. so itll be an ok movie probably

  68. 68

I like Lauren Weisberger as an author - but "Chasing Harry WInston" is COMPLETE RUBBISH! Not worth a film et all!
If studio execs want to make another mindless chick-flick, try Weisberger's second novel "Everyone Worth Knowing"

  69. 69

depends on who is cast, Jessica Alba then no, Eva Mendes than yes.
Sex and the city is the stupidest show ever- i literally would fall asleep when my friend would make me watch it! such a constant state of drama and whining- just like desperate housewives- beyond irritating! ucckk

the book came out b4 the sex and the city movie its not a rip off

    71

I read the book and it was amazing! I cant wait to see the film xDD

  72. 72

Lauren Weisberger is an amazing writer, however reading Chasing… was a huge effort to read. And if they screw it up like they did Devil Wears Prada then I'll definitely skip it.

I want 2 hours of my life back!

  73. 73

Having just read the book about five time in one month and a half (had to read something while going from country-to-other in my Europe trip this summer) I think the story is quite delightful.
Only thing that might be a problem is the Hollywood habit of changing the entire thing.

But if they stick to Lauren Weisberger's words, then I bet it'll be quite fun.

  74. 74

No way! I love chick lit, but this book was terrible. The characters were empty and unlikeable. I felt as though I became significantly dumber by reading it. Would really recommend reading Emily Giffin's book called Love the One You're With - it's excellent!

  75. 75

um i read this book and its fanfuckingtabulous perez. dont hate. :)

  76. 76

I'm SO EXCITED that they've announced this! I just read the book, and I kept picturing it as a film… yess!

  77. 77

    the book is amazing!
    i'll definitely see the movie!

  78. 78

HELL YEA ITS ALL ABOUT THE RING!! ;)
    THE BIGGER THE BETTER.

SWEET AND HUMBLE IS THE WAT TO BE RIGHT? HEHE

  79. 79

The book is really good. It's similar to SITC but the characters have better personalities. You laugh your ass off & you cry. I think if they do it right, get the right actors, it'll be a great chick flick.

  80. 80

The book was really good! I'd love to see the flick. It could never be a SATC but it will be good.

  81. 81

READ THE BOOK WAS OK-ISH HOWEVER I M NOT SURE MAKING A MOVIE OUT OF THIS IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA.

  82. 82

    book's good.

  83. 83

Like the book a lot! Can't wait for the movie!

  84. 84

I hated this book, I couldn't finish it that's how bad it is.

  85. 85

The book was awesome! The title and cover are misleading. While there is talk of engagement, there is so much more to the story. If the movie is kept close to the book (unlike how they totally fucked up the Devil Wears Prada) then it should be a great movie!

I LOVED this book. Read it a few months ago and I couldn't put it down.
I would love to see it played out in the theatres!

  87. 87

i'm reading the book now and i loooove it
    it's not SATC at all

  88. 88

Perez…any time you have 3 women in a movie, it doesn't equate "Sex & the City" - learn to read and learn about what you are supposedly talking about!

  89. 89

The book was great! It will make a great movie. I'm excited to see who they'll cast!!

  90. 90

I've read the book and it's amazing! It's not all about engagement and it's hilarious!!! Can't wait for the movie!

  91. Jus says – reply to this

    91

Perez, I have read the book and YOU COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG!!!

  92. 92

the book was amazing so lets home the movie does it justice

  93. 93

I just read the book a month ago. It's great. I love Lauren Weisberger she writes books that you don't want to put down. I'm very excited about this.
