Well, nice to see he isn't dead - yet.
Here's some new info about England's other cracky, Pete Doherty.
The Daily Mail reports that a money-strapped Pete has resorted to paying for cab rides from one company with this 'art'.
The company's owner revealed to the paper that he told Pete he'd be happy to provide taxi services in exchange for paintings:
"I have come to realise that Pete is brilliantly talented. The composition of his paintings is brilliant and he himself is a very generous and warm-hearted person. I am quite happy for him to pay me in paintings because I know they will be increasingly collectable."
He might have a point!
Limited edition prints signed in Doherty's blood have sold for up to $5,000.
Crazy stuff!
Something about the exchange just seems so wrong to us, though. Is Petey being taken advantage of?

I am an art dealer so I have delt with fine art for years. Artists like Picasso (especially) used to barter artwork or even his signature for dinners, and other things. Picasso made it a habit to pay for everything by check because his signature was worth more than the bill.
But believe me Pete is NO picasso, LOL
I hate to sound like one of those "he's such an artist" fans…but really..has anyone even listened to any music from bands he was in? Or read some of his writing? I would love to have one of those paintings…

Vangogh used barter with his landlord…giving him paintings in exchange for rent. Its a common practice amongst artist. I'm quite sure that he's worked out a deal wherein he accrues a tab of a certain value then turns over a painting in exchange. It's not likely that he's giving a painting to the guy everytime he gets in a cab..he'd be so busy painting that he'd never have time to smoke his crack if that were the case.
I like it…cool exchange when there not only money..
I hate the way that everyone takes advantage of Pete.
He's such a sensitive soul with a terrible addiction and obviously a lot of problems.
People do forget that he writes such beautiful songs and is a really charming bloke, which is such a shame.
I just hope he finds whatever he needs that can help him get over his troubles.
