One of the founding members of Pink Floyd, Richard Wright (above right), died Monday at his home in Britain after a long battle with cancer.
He was 65.
Doug Wright, Pink Floyd's spokesman and of no relation to the artist, said that the family wished to release no further details.
Wright met Roger Waters and Nick Mason in college, when Pink Floyd was known as Sigma 6. Pink Floyd materialized in 1965 with fourth member the late Syd Barrett and quickly became a London psychedelic scene favorite with their jazz-infused rock and trippy multimedia happenings.
Wright played an instrumental role in the music's development, assisting heavily on some of the band's most epic creations, such as "Shine On Your Crazy Diamond." After a string of commercially and critically celebrated albums, including but not limited to 1973's "Dark Side of the Moon," tensions arose between Waters, Wright, and David Gilmour. During production of "The Wall" that tension resulted in Wright's gradual departure from the band.
Wright went on to release one album with a new band called Zee, as well as two solo albums. After Waters left Pink Floyd in 1985, Wright joined the remaining members to record two more albums as Pink Floyd. After 25 years apart, the entire band reunited in 2005 to perform at the "Live 8" charity concert in London.

Dark Side of the Moon was my first concert when I lived in Canada and shaped my taste in music. Catch ya on the Other Side…

RIP Rick without a doubt a legend and an inspiration to alot of artist out there. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and the other members of this amazing band. Now you are joining Syd and you guys can play for the angels.

Oh and thanks Perez for posting this, I know alot of the crap that goes on here is mainly for the now popular artist but although alot of people may not know Pink Floyd they are better than any of these bands that are out now. Finally you post something with meaning and someone who is a REAL artist.
wow that hit me like a ton of led he's got an album that he released in 1977 called wet dream if you like pink floyd its not quite as spacey but its really mellow and a true classic I never get tired of playijng it

My Dad used to to play "the wall" over and overrrr and over when I was a kid…. rmemeber the one with all the clocks ticking….I remember the album cover for The Wall and the movie and another album he had that had a pig flying on it….
Oh and the album cover with the dude on fire in the suit and offf course "Dark Side of the Moon" album cover…..

You may really wanna think if you like this band or not, there "stairway to heaven" potraying a message like they are christian and loving people, type it backwards in youtube and see the real message they are getting across, its disgusting and no wonder that 1 died, maybe god denied him after he denied christanity, in a global message that the whole world could get, these people make me sick.

RIP Richard Wright. Thank you for contributing to some of the most memorable nights of my life.
I remember sneaking out of the house when I was 16 in 1975 to see them on their "Animals" tour, (boy, did I catch hell for it). The concert was awesome and was worth the two week grounding I got for skipping out of church that day. Pink Floyd's music will always live on because it is that good.

Look kids….this is very very sad news because Pink Floyd is what is called a "band". Yes, they actually wrote their own songs and play things called instuments which you just don't see nowadays.

the floyd are my favorite band and i was sad to hear about rick's passing. he was an important part of their sound. he'll be missed.
Greatest. Band. Ever. My greatest concert fantasy was for a complete reunion, guess that's never gonna happen. So sad. Gonna smoke a fatty tonight and listen to Dark Side or Animals…..RIP Rick.
