They Want Your Money!

Filed under: Barbra Streisand > Heidi Klum > Barack Obama > John McCain

barackandjohn__opt.jpg

Voting Obama in November? In Los Angeles this evening? Got $28,500 to throw around?

Well then you can mosey on over to Beverly Hills for a fundraiser for Barack as only Hollywood can do it.

The evening starts with dinner at a Beverly Hills mansion followed by a reception at the Beverly Wilshire hotel, where Barbara Streisand, an ardent Democratic supporter, will perform. Folk singer Ben Harper is also slated to play.

Fancy fancy!

Obama's aides are mum on the exact number of attendees expected, as well as which stars are on the pricey guest list.

But we do know that about 250 people are expected to dinner and that 900 are expected to see the Funny Girl sing.

Together the events are estimated to raise 9 million dollars, more than any candidate has raised in a single day.

In Florida on Monday McCain hosted his own buffet dinner at Miami's InterContinental hotel, culminating in 26.2 million dollars for McCain in Florida to date. In August, McCain experienced his best funraising thus far with 47 million dollars. But, since he accepted public funding, his general election campaign spending is limited to 84 million dollars.

Obama, on the other hand, raised a record-breaking 66 million dollars in August. He opted out of public funds, making this one of the most expensive election races yet!

Of fucking course they want our money! But they want to tell us how bad off we are too, oh wait; that is Obama contstantly telling us how shitty things are. Duh!

  11. 11

Sounds like a sexy fun time. Minus Barbara Streisand.

    Re: Melissa is always right
Things are shitty for us common folk, when you're as obscenely rich as a Streisand or a Klum it's not much…and they're STILL backing Obama, even though they're going to be the ones who suffer the most through taxes–they'll be giving back to a nation that has given them so much (especially financially!). It says a lot if you ask me.

  13. 13

    OBAMA 08

  14. 14

maybe every year Obama should charge these idiots this money and feed the homeless with it. Its fucking ridiculous this much money goes to COMMERCIALS that sway NOTHING!!

  15. 15

I hope sh'loads of people pay and turn up for this AND HE LOSES lmfao :) And no I'm not on the McCain/Palin ticket either, I just think it would be funny

  16. 16

Obama also has taken much more PAC $$ than McC. So an evening with Babs 'Any Democrat At All' Streisand? She may be talented but should stick to what she knows best. Do we need someone with no experience running the country??

Re: Blackacid Betty – You do realize they can elect to pay more taxes but never do.

  20. 20

Re: Blackacid Betty – i've said it before and I'll say it again…..these guys are as hypocritical in their presidential politics as they are in their environmental politics………….oh, to be a pap on the wall in the voting booth of LA county!

  21. 21

omg perez… McCain is NOT for war…. he's for not leaving that fucking mess Bush left behind. We caused that problem… we need to help fix it!!

If I were running for hall monitor and that shrill bitch Streisand came out in support of me, I would have to kill myself.

  25. 25

Re: Blackacid Betty – Well, I don't think things are all that shitty and I'm a single parent. And I am not insanely rich. FAR from it. But I keep my Jeep full, I still buy organic food, I still provide everything we need, send my son to private school, we go to lots of sports events, take trips, I am able to let my son sport all Hollister. Used to not always be that way, we struggled. And I never ever considered it being someone else's responsibility to change that but my own. Sorry if you are doing bad but to me, with gas prices going up, food going up, utility companies gouging us all happening within the last couple years of a democratic controlled Congress, I think it still could be a lot worse. And if you don't believe that, just wait and let your guy win. I haven't heard anything out of Obama's mouth that convinces me otherwise. Nor have I seen it here in Illinois.

  26. 26

    Re: State ziti
Well, now they'll be forced to if the candidate they're backing gets into office won't they?

  27. 27

This is funny…Carly Florina, McSames co-chair of his campaign was asked if either McCain or Palin could run a corporation she said "No, I don't."
On Fiorina’s statement, Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said, “If John McCain’s top economic advisor doesn’t think he can run a corporation, how on earth can he run the largest economy in the world in the midst of a financial crisis?”

  28. 28

    Re: Melissa is always right
I agree, we're not living in a great depression but from my standpoint as a recent college grad it's pretty bleak at the moment. Since me and a number of my peers graduated in May not a single one of us have been able to land a job because of all the lay offs that have occurred in my area.

Things could be way worse, but it's just disheartening to me when my college commencement speaker's speech revolved around how it would be nearly impossible for any of us to find decent jobs.

On the up and up I have an job interview tomorrow so FINGERS CROSSED :)

    Great campaign reform.

  30. 30

Re: Blackacid Betty – I really wish you luck, I know that it is tough out there but there are jobs. I know I had several that I put up with and I hated them, got raped on health insurance costs and barely scraped by. A good motto is the bigger the risk the bigger the reward so hang in there because I can tell from your posts that you are intelligent and that will win out for you. Just don't expect too much right up front because it doesn't happen! Unless you are naturally born lucky. :-)

  31. 31

How do those POOR, NEEDY democrats come up with such cash? I mean, they are constantly lying about the economy and constantly lying about how much cash they have. THE RICHEST people in the US (Gates, Soros, Buffett) are democrats! They hoard the cash but then want legislation to keep YOU from passing it on to your family when you die. The biggest capitalists in the system are democrats- and the richest in Hollywood are liberals.

  32. 32

Re: Blackacid Betty – GL on your interview! Fingers are crossed. :)

  33. 33

Re: sweetpiece – Why must you be so deceitful. Here's the quote from Fiorina:

“I don’t think John McCain could run a major corporation. I don’t think Barack Obama could run a major corporation. I don’t think Joe Biden could run a major corporation. But on the other hand a major corporation is not the same as being the president or vice president of the United States,” Fiorina said.

Nobody is going to take you seriously if you post half-truths, as you so correctly reminded me.

  34. 34

Re: sweetpiece – funnier………the quote you refer to….cut her off, literally in the middle of her sentence….typical…she went on to say that none of the candidates are qualified to run a corporation and that "it is a fallacy to suggest that the country is like a company"

  35. 35

Re: sweetpiece – Fiorina also went on to say:

“I think this is a pattern of the Obama campaign. What they did was deceitful. They literally cut words off. Secondly, they are sort of flooding the zone with nonsense. Look, different experiences prepare you for different jobs. Sarah Palin and John McCain are uniquely experienced to be the president and vice president of the United States. Barack Obama is the least qualified candidate running today in terms of his executive experience, in terms of his time in public office. So I think the Obama campaign would do very well to stop hurling the experience argument, because their candidate for president has less than any one else for office right now on these two tickets."

  36. 36

    Re: Blackacid Betty
word to the wise………don't make any political small talk…..good luck

hope you'll still have time for us fools!

Re: sweetpieceGUESS WHAT! That interview was cut off at McCain! She said Obama and Biden as well, just afterward." This was completely slimely! It's all over the news. Where were you???? Your righteous Obama indorsed a lie. :) Wow surprise.

  38. 38

Despite the announcement of a record $66 million haul in August, the Barack Obama campaign continues to worry about its funding. Politico reports that Team Obama rebuffed a request from Harry Reid for Obama to share the wealth, literally, to assist other Democrats running for the Senate. The cost of raising money has diluted their position against John McCain, and with the DNC essentially failing under Howard Dean, they can’t afford to part with a penny.

  39. 39

Perez, I hope you realize that Joe Biden is against same-sex marriage (support civil unions) and Obama never made a stance for it, maybe you should look into your candidates a little more before supporting them.

  40. 40

Re: Smirks – sad thing….sweetpiece was probably not being deceitful…………duped is probably a better word……..scary that so many people base their votes on soundb……

Okay, if the fact that these stupid "celebrities" would pay that much money to see this douche (Osama Obama Bin Ladin) doesn't show you how ridiculous and unqualified he is then the fact that he is willing t squander away that much money on ridiculous t.v. ads should - this guy is a ball sack and would never be elected president. Why on earth would anyone pay that amount of money to see a douchebag like him? What a waste? Why don't they donate it to a homeless shelter or to a family whose father was just layed off! Some families live on that amount of money for an entire year. This is just disgusting! That man is overindulgent and ridiculous! These people should all be ashamed!

    Re: Smirks

Thanks for your support you guys, it's totally appreciated ;)

  43. 43

Re: mamajud – Yeah, you know. If most people would be more objective about thier candidates, we'd all be better off. :) When people think their candidate walks on water they don't want to hear the truth, much less repeat it. Only when we acknowledge that all candidates are human and fallible, are we open to it. Sigh.

  44. 44

    McCain more of the same!
Look up Phil Gramm and see the damage this trusted advisor to McCain has done.
He only stepped away just before the convention so not to be a target. They distracted the population with a pig wearing lipstick so no one would realize how deep McCain's man was in the economic situation this country finds itself.

Re: sweetpiece – Phil Gramm stepping away from McCain so as not to be a target is kinda like Joe Biden's son quitting his job as a registered lobbyist a couple weeks ago, dontcha think?

Re: sweetpiece – Phil Gramm stepping away from McCain so as not to be a target is kinda like Joe Biden's son quitting his job as a registered lobbyist a couple weeks ago, dontcha think? Isn't it also a bit like Obama distancing himself from Reverend Wright?
