A-List Celebs Missing from Fight to Protect Gay Marriage in California

We mentioned on Wednesday that Brad Pitt gave $100,000 to fight the passage of Proposition 8, an amendment that would outlaw gay marriage in California.
Pitt's donation was the biggest A-list donation the campaign has seen to date.
It's hard to believe that newlyweds Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have not given a penny to the cause, as claimed by a new report. Rosie O'Donnell and Elton John have failed to donate too.
Geoff Kors, the executive director spearheading the effort to fight Prop 8 said, “We have raised a record $11 million to fight Prop 8. Unfortunately, the other side has raised $16 million and is raising money at a feverish pace. We need to catch up and match them dollar for dollar. With an expected 13 million voters and the most expensive media markets in the nation, it takes tens of millions of dollars to get your message out. If we can get our message out at the same rate as they can, I believe we will win. But if they continue to have more resources, it will be very difficult for us to prevail.”
In addition to celebs, LGBT entertainment power players like Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry are 'missing' from the donor rolls.

Hey Perez: An ex-Mormon donated One MILLION dollars to back to oppose those seeking to eliminate Caifornia's current recognition of same-sex marriages.
Currently the LDS Church is trying really hard to deny same sex couples the right to marry.

This is just a money scam, because Federal law overrides State law, and the Federal 'Defense of Marriage Act' only defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

i just dont understand why gay marriage is even an issue. Any opposition to it has never been about ethics (which matter), they have been based on morals and close minded religious views (which don't matter, especially in regards to law making). If anyone can give me a legitimate reason as to why gay people shouldn't get married without basing their reasoning off of morals or close minded religious views, I will give you head. Ellen Degeneres, Elton John, and everybody else can do whatever they want with their money. They don't owe anything to anybody and can support whatever charities they please. I think it's a great cause to support, but gay marriage has already been allowed then overtuned in California. Celebrities can't donate over and over. And this only the second state to allow gay marriage. So then it's gonna turn into "he or she donated for California, but now not this state." So, it's kind of a tough position because who knows how much good it will do. Not to sound defeated, but if the higher-ups want to overturn it they're not gonna care that Ellen, Rosie and Elton donated. Just because a celebrity is homosexual does not obligate him/her to FINANCIALLY support this cause. It seems like you're calling out these celebs in order to guilt them into donating, which doesn't seem like the most productive way to raise money. It says way too much. Adopting children is not replenishing. To give you a hypothetical example, let's say that half the population started marrying the same gender. There would be twice as many people drawing on spousal benefits in future years, and only half as many offspring to replenish that in the next generation.
