Oldest Man In The World Turns 113!

The oldest man in the world is celebrating his 113th birthday today.
Damn! That's a lot of years!
And, Tomoji Tanabe of Miyakonojo in southern Japan says he wants to live ten more years! He intends to do this by continuing to eat mostly vegetables and to indulge in his favorite - fried shrimp - only occasionally.
He believes the key to longevity is a life of sobriety. That's right, no alcohol.
That doesn't bode well for our fave Hallywood shIt Girls!
The local mayor presented Tanabe with flowers and a giant tea cup glazed with his name and date of birth as a gift. Arigato!

I just read an article that will be coming out in a November issue of a magazine that the islands of Okinawa Japan, the Centenarian's over 70 wer to be lean and fit, that their arteires were clean and that they had remarkably low rates of cancer and heart disease. and those in their late 90's fewere had dementia than comparable populations in other devleoped lands. One major factor was genetics, but other factors included AVOIDANCE OF TABACCO, moderation in alcohol use, and a good diet. This diet tends to be low in calories and high in vegetables and fruits, natural fiber and good fats (omega -3, monounsatureated fat) and people have the habit of eating until they are 80 percent full because there is about a 20 minute delay before the stomach tells the brain. They also keep physically active with gardening, daily walking, dancing and other activities. tests revealed that these people were optimistic and adaptable. They handled stress well and women especially manifested strong social intergaraion. THERE IS NO MAGIC PILL for longevity. It's influenced by genes, diet excersse, good habits and healthy ways of coping with stress.
