Behind The Hacking
As we mentioned yesterday, Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin had her Yahoo email hacked into.
Screenshots of her inbox, along with a few emails, were leaked to the Internets. And now, new details are being released as to how the hackers got into her account.
By impersonating her online!
It was actually really simple.
The hackers knew Palin's date of birth, her home zipcode, and guessed that she met her husband in highschool.
With those way too easy "security questions" answered, the hackers were able to change her password to "popcorn."
So an obvious piece of advice to everyone, select a difficult question and put an answer only you would know, even if it doesn't match the question.
Obviously, the FBI and the Secret Service are launching an investigation into the intentional hack.
Even comments by the "hacker" have circulated around the Internets already, with one message stating, "I am the lurker who did it, and i would like to tell the story." He/she adds that what had started as a prank was only cut short because of worries that the FBI would investigate.
Duh, you're committing a big crime!
Gabriel Ramuglia, who operates the Internet anonymity service in Athens, GA, that was used by the hacker, said he is fully willing to cooperate with authorities.
Ramuglia said he was reviewing his own logs and promised to turn in any helpful information to the feds, since the hacker violated the rules against using the service for illegal activities.
Ramuglia added, "If you're doing something illegal and causing me issues by doing this, I'm willing to cooperate. Obviously this is the most high profile situation I've dealt with."
Breaking the law is never a good thing!
