The Governator Prevailed
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger didn't make history on Thursday.
He refrained from using his power to veto the budget California lawmakers sent his way because his demands for budget reform were incorporated into the plan!
Lawmakers also agreed to nix 'borrowing gimmicks' opposed by the Gov.
No governor in modern California state history has ever vetoed a budget submitted by lawmakers.
Arnie criticized the original plan for failing to meet his demands for a more robust rainy day fund. He said the budget relied on accounting gimmicks to close a $15.2 billion deficit — such as collecting an extra 10 percent of workers' income tax in advance and repaying it later — that could lead to an even larger deficit next year, according to reports.
Legislative leaders said they had agreed to remove that provision in their latest deal.

Teachers, City & State workers as well as subcontracters in the social services have been workign WITHOUT PAYCHECKS since the budget went unsigned in July. A group of indivuals who live pay check to paycheck and average 40 k a year. I am sure landlords were happy to take an IOU from people who got IOU's from the state for the past 2 months

I grew up in, and married into, Union families. Union workers (at least in the Midwest) may have to work without a contract for awhile…but, they do NOT go without a paycheck. They get the same pay, before contract renewal…and then, when both parties reach an agreement, and it gets signed, the employees get the pro-rated pay increase in the next check.
Hell, even when they go out on strike…they STILL get a paycheck (it's only a portion, but, it's still a check).
Perez totally love you, but keep with the gossip and out of politics. Arnnie totally dryfucked the people of the state. No spit, no lube, he and his republicants, decimated social services, health care and any type of rehab and parole. HIV/AIDS programs are on life support right now, any type of free clinics for the poor are hurting. He cut education, he cut teachers pay (already thelowest paid in the country), he raised tuitions at UC/CSU and cut their budgets. Guess what got an increase? Prisons. So maybe check before you cheer one of the worse Governors in history, like you check your sources.

Feel free to comment but please be truthful! Teachers in California are the highest paid in the country. The prison guard union and other public employee literally run this state. California has the highest personal income tax in the USA. California has the highest sales tax. State revenue has increased 40% over the past five years and yet California has a massive deficit. The Democrats and public employee unions are bleeding this state dry. The facts please!
