Bush Asks Congress to Give $700 Billion to Banks

Filed under: Politik > Business Blitz

w__opt.jpg

George Bush made a very Democratic Party move on Saturday.

The President asked the Congress to give $700 BILLION to the Wall Street banks that are basically in deep shit.

Bushy called it a 'big solution to a big problem'.

This 'big solution' would be the BIGGEST federal biz bailout since the Great Depression.

Funny — Bush in a way admitted that the 'Republican' way of letting the market 'sort itself' out can't fix a big problem!

If Bush's request is passed by Congress, the $700 BILLION that would go to the banks is your money, taxpayers.

Basically, if Wall Street isn't bailed out big time, our economy would be screwed and even more people would be out of work.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see how Congress responds to Bushy's request.

We sense they'll say yes, but the Dems will surely inject lots of 'we told you so's' all along the way.

      Get rid of Republicans !
Having money in an American Bank is not a good deal.
The Fed will not have the same money to insure your deposits.
Withdraw all your money from the Banks…! Trust me i saw things like this happening in other countries.

And VOTE FOR CHANGE! NOT FOR ANOTHER BUSH TERM!
If you did not get the message, maybe you are a Republican.

    3. 203

Let's see how the Republicans solves the Banks Bankruptcy situation.

"The Only Way I'll Support A Bail Out of Wall Street…..

      1) Repeal all of Bush's tax cuts to the rich.
      2) Impose an immediate windfall profit tax of 75% to the oil companies
retroactive to 2004, and due immediately.
      3) Reinstate and strictly enforce all anti-trust laws.
      4) Tax CEO's excessive salaries, bonuses, and golden parachutes.
      5) Reinstate and strictly enforce all financial market regulations to
the level they were in 1980.
      6) Investigate and prosecute Wall Street under RICO laws. "

    6. 206

everyone has to stop this its the republicans fault, it is the democrats fault. both have some blame in this. The market should be able to work it's self out under normal conditions. BUT, 1st you have the prices of houses going through the roof(the house next to me sold for $145k in '96-it is now worth about $500k) then give mortgages to people with 0 down, credit cards to anyone, No income checks on some equity loans, of course there will be alot of defaults. The average person saw it coming. But, we had loan officers trying to push loans, real estaters telling people they could afford that house, mortgages selling as securitys from bank to bank and wall streeters that control the prices of everything having panic attacks when they hear something going wrong. Congress should have been passing laws to control these idiots.

    8. 208

To be exact, in 1999, DEMOCRAT Bill Clinton signed into law the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which overturned the Glass-Steagall Act. One of the effects of the repeal is it allowed commercial and investment banks to consolidate which helped create the mortgage backed security. This would be what you hear in the news as Deregulation of banking. again, this was signed by DEMOCRAT Bill Clinton.

Here's the thing about this whole foreclosure crisis. I don't think anyone deserves ANY help at all if they still are making the same amount of money as they were the day they signed the loan papers. The reason I say this is because NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE knew on that day what money you had left each month to pay your mortgage except you. It's common sense! People need to take responsibility and stop blaming others.

This is my biggest problem with democrats. It's BLAME, BLAME, BLAME yet they NEVER have any answers. I admit, things suck now for a lot of people but for the most part, it's their own fault. In the past 8 years, I have done better finacially than ever and this year, will be even better. Am I lucky, perhaps, but I NEVER signed 1 contract in my life that I didn't understand. This is why I am not in the situation that a lot of people are.

    13. 213

Do you even know what you are talking about?

says the person holding the obama pom poms… McCain was used by the left in 2004 to attack Bush because his ideals went against him. He even wrote a book that made Bush look bad. The left had no problem using it to shill against Bush in 2004. So much so that Biden told Kerry to ask McCain to be his vice Pres instead of the ambulance chasing, adulterer Edwards.

Funny how it's now election time, and people have forgotten the past and are not calling McCain "McSame" and just another Bush, hoping to paint him like Bush.

That's just intellectual dishonesty at it's highest form. And it's political zealotry like that, that is fucking this country up. If your beliefs were so just, you'd not have to revert to dishonesty like this.

    15. 215

Re: thaad1 1) Repeal all of Bush's tax cuts to the rich.

      Another dishonest lie.

This is what happens. When the left are in charge, the "rich" get OVER TAXED because they are rich. Steal from the rich, give to the poor, or do nothings. (Which is most of them, believe me, i studied the situation for years)

Then when the right take over, and make the "rich" tax back to a normal more FAIR rate, the left SCREAM FAVORITISM!1`11 It's dishonesty. Under the Bush Admin the top 6% of our nation is already paying over 50% of our nation's taxes.

But the left want them to pay more. Why should we tax people more because they are successful? I am ALL for giving to the poor by CHOICE. NOT government MANDATED. And no, it's NOT "Good for the people"

Those that think that, have never been down in the places where the people take advantage of such things.

I remember once in the 90s where you could get on SSI just for being too drunk to go to work.

      Pathetic.

    16. 216

'As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.

    17. 217

Obama also thinks there are more than 57 States.

    18. 218

Bush is out of his mind, and always has been. He shouldn't be in Washington, he should be in the Hague, being tried for war crimes! Guess who's paying the bailout. Take a look in the mirror.

The people in power have used "agenda setting" to distract us from the real issues. As soon as people start questioning where candidates stand on the real issues that affect the average taxpayer on a daily basis, suddenly there a big debate about some "moral" issue like gay marriage. Wake up, people!! Can't you tell these are distraction tactics to try to get you to think that the conservatives are on your side? I can just about guarantee that none of these conservative politicians give TWO HOOTS about issues like abortion and gay marriage except as it serves them politically.

Re: Beachy – Reality check! Education in the USA has never been very good. High School is a joke and to get a college degree is way easier than in certain other countries. Students came because the USA was a thriving nation. Not anymore. Now China, India or even Russia are en vogue. The number of foreign students in the USA is declining constantly for at least the last 5 years. And I am certainly no exception and "over there studying for a degree". Do you really think I come to the USA to pay ridiculous amounts of money to get a crappy education, when I'm able to get a better one in my own country and many other countries for free? Hell no!
I know A LOT of students and exactly one of them went to the USA, the other ones preferred Europe, South America, Asia, Australia, Africa, whatever. I myself went to universities in Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Japan, I've got relatives in the USA, went there often and visited France, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, England, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Italy, South Africa, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria, Thailand and China, I know what I'm talking about, but judging by what you had to say you probably never even left the USA yourself.

And I didn't bash your country nor did I give any advice, all I did was explaining the results of the 700 billion "gift" and USA's debt. Stop acting as stupid as the world expects you to do.

    31. 231

Maybe all of you morons ought to consider the possibility that it's everyone's fault: the republicrats AND all the people who thought they could go out and buy houses they couldn't afford AND the idiots who lent them the money to do it. And you're all sitting here fighting about Obama and McCain. What's the difference? The only way the duopoly will stop wrecking this country is for people to say 'no' to all of them - so stop yapping about Obama and McCain and start thinking about real change. There are other possibilities besides the republicrats - maybe you should look into them. Unless you're convinced that the government (and who cares which party - they both suck) ought to run your lives (and they're doing a kickass job, aren't they?), you ought to think about voting LP, Green, or ANYTHING other than duopoly.

Most folks just are not that sophisticated financially and often do not know when they are being lied to. I know many took advantage of the easy money. I have a house next to me that is currently on the market for 3.8 Million. That is what the speculators who built it need to break even. The bank that holds the mortgage of 2 million will be lucky to get 1 Million after the foreclosure in todays dollars. It will be a bank in Ohio that believed a fraudulent appraisal in California that is the name on the loan. Sure hope they sold it to an "investment bank". We need to put all the fraudsters in jail.

Below are a few lines from Obama's books, IN HIS WORDS!
From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.' / 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.' / 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.' / 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.' / 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'
************'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'**************
      Hmmmm….a Muslim, a Bigot & a Racist…NO THANKS! McCain / Palin 2008! :-)

    40. 240

Sorry to say this people, but it's not the Republicans who caused this mess- it's all the people buying houses with no money down who can't afford the loans and all of the loan sharks that are willing to do it just to get a commission- that's what jump started the entire financial debacle. People of America need to stop buying stuff with money they don't have!!!! Don't buy houses you can't afford and don't fill them with stuff you maxed your credit card out on! We need to simplify our lives. Get real America.

    44. 244

      Re: SquirrelLives
Off topic, but just out of the WSJ, here's how the Democrats REALLY feel about our troops:

"Even Barack Obama, who opposed the Iraq troop surge, has finally acknowledged its success. But some of his fellow Democrats in Congress apparently remain unconvinced. Earlier this week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin teamed up to block a vote on a bipartisan resolution "recognizing the strategic success of the troop surge in Iraq" and thanking our men and women in uniform for their efforts.

Citing General Petraeus by name, the resolution, which is sponsored by Independent Democrat Joe Lieberman and Republican Lindsey Graham, "commends and expresses the gratitude to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces for the service, sacrifices, and heroism that made the success of the troop surge in Iraq possible."

The Lieberman-Graham resolution is a chance for Democrats to show that their support for the troops is more than rhetorical. It changes no policy and in that sense is only symbolic. Yet it is precisely the political symbolism of admitting they were wrong that is stopping the Democratic leadership from letting it come up for a vote before the Senate adjourns. Unfortunately, the last thing that Democrats want to discuss in this election season is success in Iraq."

      Isn't that just sad?

    45. 245

      Re: Smirks – Post 248
Sad but expected. If they wanted that resolution passed they should have let two other Senators sponsor it. Lieberman and Graham are both persona non grata to the likes of Reid and others. These guys (Reid and his buddies) would literally eat a pile shit before openly admitting the success. I don't understand the defeatist mindset. To not admit the obvious is even more obtuse. Remember, Reid is the guy that said the war was lost, his plate of crow is bigger than the rest.

    56. 256

That 700 billion is going to repay the mortgage crisis. Don't make a decision, nor an uneducated remark, until you do the math. Barack Obama wants to raise taxes on the "wealthy", which includes small businesses. Small businesses employ over 70% of our country. He wants to raise taxes from 34% to 57%. You do the math. By the way, the top 5% of the country pays over 40% of the country's taxes. Figure it out and then write something intelligent.

    57. 257

ohhh ok, so your saying it is a Democratic move to steal Taxpayers money.

If you are speaking of me, i think you are missing my point. First, I am not rich. I simply stated that I have done very well over the last 8 years.
My point is this, if you still have the same job you did last year or even 5 years ago, has your paycheck changed? I doubt it. If so, what type of job do you have where they gave you a pay cut? If they did, I would say that would fall into the "help" portion as long as you borrowed within your means.
Hell if you took out a loan for $2000 per month and could only afford $1999, what did you expect. You will go into foreclosure if you can't pay your loan, it's that simple.
I just think people need to be smarter and take responsibility

Re: Mizsmall ohhh ok, so your saying it is a Democratic move to steal Taxpayers money. I'm glad you cleared that up for me-

Not their move, just what they do. Hillary even said she was going to raise the taxes for the "benefit of everyone" or some bullshit. And yes, the left over-tax the rich just because they are rich. That isn't fair taxing. Although the rich Democratic congressmen always seem to get out of said tax burdens……

BTW in congress, the left have the richest congressmen in congress. More so than the Right.

Looks like the left is the new Rich Good Ole Boy party.

Re: Angieinar No dear, it's you that are ignorant - anyone with "half a brain" would know that it will take more than 2 years to UNDO what the Republican Congress put into place. DENIAL DENIAL DENIAL!

Tell you what Angie, if Clinton hadn't cut military and intelligence spending during a time we were getting attacked my terrorists (I am not even talking about 9/11) to "balance the budget" (Any moron could have done that. But most presidents have been smarter) Bush wouldn't have had to spend all that money to bring it out of the death woes it was in. The Clinton's HATED the military. And vice versa. So they pretty much ignored it.

And in 2001, that came and slapped us back in the face. Who cares about a fucking economy when were are getting attacked? What do you think that will do to it?

    63. 263

lets please just do something, the economy like suck majorly right now. umm..duh its taxpayers money like everything else these days i say we just support Bush through the rest of his time in office it wont be much longer before someone new and hopefully improved takes over. lets hope the economy gets a face life soon so we can all go shopping and "eat cake" again!! hugs and kisses!! xoxo -sav
