Queen Harry Potter Gets Political

She's making her pocketbook work Hollywood-style.
J.K. Rowling is putting her money where her political heart is.
According to a new report, the Harry Potter author has donated $1.8 million to Britain's Labour Party and praised the party's fight against child poverty.
For the most part, the UK's Labour Party = the US's Democratic Party and the UK's Conservative Party = the US's Republican Party.
Rowling said that vulnerable families will fare much better under Labour than under the Conservatives. She went on to say that the Conservative tax proposals would make it harder for single parents to work their way out of poverty as she did when she began writing her novels in cafes in Edinburgh, Scotland.
So it looks like she's supporting Labour even though it will cost her more tax dollars.
She's so rich, she won't feel it!
The report also mentions that this is Rowling's first ever donation to the Labour Party.
It was also mentioned that this will give the struggling party a much needed boost.

As a Brit, I'm appalled that you are teaching other Americans your own ignorance. The Labour party are NOT your answer to the Democrats. The Liberal Democrats in the UK are the closest thing to your American Dems. Labour and Conservative are both like the Republicans.

Actually a more accurate comparison would be Liberal Democrats = Left-wing Democrats, Labour = Right-wing Democrats and Conservatives aka Tories = Republicans (my understanding is Republicans are mainly the uber wealthy and any working class supporters tend to be of a religious background?)
JK is a total idiot in my opinion for giving to the sinking ship that is Labour - the reason they need bailing out is cause they can't handle money whatsoever - bit like Dubya by the sounds of it! Gordon Brown is a coward - he came into power by default, wouldn't hold an election because he's a coward and his party have destroyed this country, hopefully not for good. In the General Election to vote for the Prime Minister you're not even voting for a person to be PM you're voting for who you want to be your local towns MP and then all the final votes are tallied and the party with the most MPs (seats in the House) is the party in power THEN the party decides it's leader!!!! Why we can't do it the American way is beyond me…I'm so close to quitting England it is unbelievable…..

THe UK is a dark hole these days. Their health care system is a mess- it takes MONTHS to get any non-emergent stuff done. They have a huge unemployment rate. Last time i was there, an entire train station was closed for more than a day due to an "electrical problem". Their infrastructure is awful. Way worse than the problems we have. (naturally because they are so much OLDER but still…)Rowling better get used to paying big amounts out if she wants her "labour" party to stay in business. Someone will ALWAYS have to pay for all that welfare. their tax system is the reason that many wealthy English celebs became American citizens. But the QUEEN, the lovely tourist attraction, gets to keep getting richer. Ironically, she is German. Descended from Queen Victoria (almost all German) and Prince Albert- also a German.

Labour originally were the party of the working class and conservatives aka tories were originally for richer people. So yeah dunno if thats helped at all..but if you know the history of parties in the US then you'll work it out.
