Recap: Travis Barker AND DJ AM Critically Injured in South Carolina Plane Crash, 4 Dead

As we reported earlier, Travis Barker and celebrity music spinner, DJ AM were critically injured after their Learjet 60 crashed during takeoff from South Carolina's Columbia Metropolitan Airport, just before midnight on Friday. The plane was headed for Van Nuys, CA.
The former Blink 182 drummer, Baker, and DJ AM are in critical condition and being treated for severe burns at an Augusta, Georgia burn center.
Barker was transported by ground to the burn facility from the site of the crash.
DJ AM was airlifted.
Four people died in the crash.
The deceased have been identified as pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, CA co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, CA, Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, CA, and Charles Still, 25 of Los Angeles, CA.
Chris was Travis's assistant.

The plane crash is still under investigation, however, during a press conference late Saturday morning a spokeswoman for the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that the plane overran the airstrip and proceeded to run into a number of the airport's lights and antenna.
Air traffic controllers reportedly "saw sparks coming from the runway" before the crash. Investigators don't know if that was from the aircraft or its engines.
A South Carolina resident named William Owens was driving down a highway next to the airport when he said he saw a fireball go across the road. He told local TV station WIS News 10:
"I didn't know what I had seen — it was maybe 800 feet in front of me, but as I approached it closer though I made out a fire. By then I was able to see the tail of the jet and I recognized it as a jet," Owens said.
Owens then described what he saw as he tried to make it to the wreckage.
"It's in flames and the fuel is running across the road and I had to cross the fuel to get to the two guys that seemed to have been dumped on the highway," Owens said.
Owens said the two men (Travis and DJ AM!) were running around and stripping down to extinguish themselves. He then asked the men if there was anyone else on board the plane and they said four more were with them.
"We turned to the jet to try and see if there was anything we could do, but immediately, there was nothing anyone could do," Owens said.
Travis and AM were in Columbia, South Carolina Friday night for a T-Mobile sponsored concert at Five Points, a popular shopping district.
Musicians Perry Farrell and Gavin DeGraw were also part of the festivities. Their reps confirmed to us that they WERE NOT on the plane that crashed.
So sad, sad, sad.

If Travis has been transported to a burn center, he's toast, literally. So sad. He's probably so burned he won't have a normal life again if he lives through it. Let's pray this isn't the case though…

The only other 'updated' report that I could find was from stupid TMZ and they said-"TMZ has learned Travis Barker has been burned from his waste down, but he is expected to survive to plane crash.
DJ AM's face was severely burned and is been tended to right now.
We're also told the tragedy is all the worse — Chris Baker, Travis' assistant on "Meet the Barkers," was married recently and has a new baby." Still it is VERY sad……..
Its a good sign that they were that alert after getting out of the plane. I think they will both be ok.
so i just read that dj am's face is severely burned. the poor guy has overcome a lot in his life and now this. tragic.

So very sad, such a talented guy aswell.i hope he recovers well. i just feel so sorry for his beautiful family. blink 182 were an amazing band! and im sure barker and dj am fans will be keeping them in their minds. xoxoxoxoxoxo

Oh man, I really hope they get well soon. This is just too sad for words. This is why I would never, ever get on a small plane like that, all those plane crash stories have freaked me out ever since Aaliyah died in 2001. RIP Sarah, James Chris and Charles.

After such a great show last night, this makes me so sad!
So sad. I have a theory, and I'm not trying to be humorous, that anytime two or more celebrities take a private plane anywhere, they jinx the flight and crash. This happens way to often to just be my own superstition.
My thoughts and prayers are with all their families…With Shanna and their kids..Very sad..Burn's hurt very badly, lossing life hurts more..Take time to be thankful for all that we have..

My condolences to all involved and wishing Tavis and DJ Am the best. also the part I find disturbing is how many people are willing to jump all over Perez for a spelling mistake, come on people there are far more important things out there to be worried about.
This crap is getting out of hand. At least once a week a jet skids off the runway. I say it's tire fatigue. These two men are blessed they made it out alive. Bet they never fly again.
Wow im in a total state of sock. I hope those who passed would RIP and my prayers go out to there friends and families. My prayers also go out to Adam and Travis I hope they get better :S

That's so crazy and sad. It seemed like they were just playing at the VMAs. Hopefully they are okay. I heard Travis and AM are in critical condition.

There are so many musicians who have died in plane crashes, and I am glad they're not among them; my sympathy to the families of those who died, and kudos to DJ AM, Travis, and Mr Owens for their attempt to rescue the others in spite of their shock (all) and injuries (DJ AM and Travis).
This airport is literally right down the road from our home, and 302 is the highway I take every day to work…so many days you would be driving along, and there would be a jet practically right over your car, as it's landing or taking off. When I found out that this happened, I was shocked and saddened. May the two remaining survivors fight on. R.I..P

This may seem cold…but, I pray that the four victims died immediately, and didn't suffer.

Shiocking and very sad. I fly constantly and you become desensitized to the possibility of a crash. I cannot imagine what those poor people were feeling as this happened. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased. My heart really goes out to the survivors too, as the healing will be terrrible and difficult, the emotional pain will probably remain the rest of their lives. So very sad.

Lucky for these two, they have enough money to pay for the best surgeons and doctors. But what if this happened to the average American, or one of the millions with no health care? This is a wake up call for celebrities and Americans to fight for their right to universal health care. Why should the government be willing to spend billions on the war in Iraq, but not care about the health of their own people? FIGHT for your right to universal health care.

small aircraft seem to me to have a ton of crashes and general unreliability each year. whether its design flaw or pilot error there are just a lot of people dying from them lately.
