The Brits are such softies!
Pop star George Michael reportedly cried his way out of a drug conviction this past weekend, according to the UK's Sun.
After cops caught the troubled star with crack cocaine and pot while he was loitering for sex at a public restroom, he begged them not to hand him a conviction because it would 'kill' his career.
His new tangle with the law could get him barred from the U.S., where he has an AIDS benefit gig next month.
Georgie claimed his charity would lose £2million (about US$4 million) in ticket sales if he could not go.
A snitch told the paper, “He was very emotional. He kept saying, ‘Please, you’ll ruin my career’. His sob story worked – he escaped with a caution. He was even chauffeured home. He only got away with it because of his celebrity status.”
An ex-Scotland Yard official slammed the police's handling of the ex-Wham man's latest run in with the law. Says the former commander, “He should have been prosecuted. He’s clearly out of control. What does he have to do to be dealt with properly?”
Yeah!
What DOES it take to be 'dealt with properly' in the U.K.?

Wham! was one of the only recording groups from the West that was allowed to sell its products in China. Most other Western music was banned. Zillions of units were sold in China [population: 1 billion] in addition to phenomenal sale in the West.
George is one of the wealthiest musicians ever. The judge was smart because he would deprive charities of money. George can live like a king for the rest of his life.
Why put him in jail because he gets high. Big deal.

Why couldn't the judge sentence him to court ordered rehab? I loved him on Eli Stone last season. I hope he comes back. After he gets his life together.

It's not so bad that he was cottaging but with CRACK! No, it's not alright. would it really ruin his career? He said that it would mean that he couldn't go to the USA and attend and AIDS benefit. This would lose $2 million. He is worth loads more than that. He could simply donate the money himself. He should be punsihed properley, like everyone else would be in his situation. It's not his first time. I do feel as if it's one rule for the rich and one for the rest of us. Thsi is not on.

i wasn't aware george michael still had a career. he's a creepy guy, and he should at least get a driver (he canafford one!) since he's always fucked up. no reason to put everyone else in danger.

Nobody really gets prosecuted for "possession" of any drug in the UK anymore, in fact you more much more likely to get fined for smoking a cigarette in a bar!
The official attitude to drugs seems to be that if you want to kill yourself then it's fine. Cottaging is sleazy though and doesn't do the gay community as a whole any favors. I feel sorry for his boyfriend as well, pretty humiliating.
