Janet Parts Ways With Her Label
The glamorous Miz Janet Jackson is no longer with her label, Island Def Jam Music Group.
Was she dropped????
Janet isn't the one releasing this info, though.
We're learning of the split from producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins.
Janet is now a free agent and Darkchild has confirmed the news during a recent video blog.
So the rumors have been put to rest, and we're now being told that she's been released from her contract, which she had signed in 2007.
Darkchild says, "We didn't get the support from the record company."
Always blame the label!
He adds that Janet "felt like it wasn't pushed. I felt like it wasn't pushed correctly. She just didn't get her just-do as an artist of that magnitude."
As for her future, he says "I could make an album with her, possibly me, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. Keep it real simple. They focus on what they're great at, I focus on what I'm great at. We come together and make a classic Janet record."
Maybe Janet should skip the label system altogether???
Release the next album yourself! Hire people yourself. Then, if it fails, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I signed up on your message board just to respond to this. This is ridiculous. I just saw Janet on tour the other night and her show was amazing. Her record label should have learned how to promote her album and music well. She is amazing and I think people should really look into her music again if they ever liked her in the 90s. She is still the same amazing Janet.

Don't go get trapped in another recording contract… Market and do everything yourself. You'll make a hell of a lot more money.

Wow what a surprise NOT! Her albums constantly flops, and kids don't care about older artists, it also doesn't help that her brother is a pedaphile. Her album WAS promoted everyone has seen the space video and nobody cared, its over, get into real estate or something.

I think the press release should read "just due" and not "just-do." Although older artists release stellar work all the time and get ignored by radio and TV ("Magic" by Bruce Springsteen is one example).
I do believe that this particular Jackson family is cursed. Gotta wonder about the parents….since ALL of the kids (not just one or two) aren't faring too well.

Ok. I am a mega huge fan of janet. However, she is at her best when her beat is fast. Also, she did rock great with Black Cat and then never went back there. She is at her worst when she sings the slow-uncatchy songs that all sound the same and are hard to understand. Nobody gets that. Why does nobody get that? It is like hello….. record after record they are filled with slow boring songs. Enough! Go edgy rock and dance put some 70's rock tones in there too. ENOUGH of the Slow….zzzzzzzz! Please.

She hasn't released a good record in nearly a decade. She needs to have Dupri stay out of the recording studio with her. His "sound" is ruining her career. Get back with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and tone down the overly sexual stuff…it just reminds people of "nipplegate"
She's not what she used to be
Well for starters she can't sing. Not much of a voice there but she managed to wing it with backup music and sound effects for quite a few years.
her style is old, nothing fresh about her. But I guess you can say the same thing for Madonna, she manages to sell at least one million records. Maybe Janet should fuck african babies and publicly insult religeous leaders so she can get some publicity?

Too many artists don't know when their party is over. She had a successful career, made lots of $$ and a few movies, but the generation who buy music don't buy music by people their parents listened to. Record label or artist, whatever no one is going to buy.

I love how you make it look like you made the suggestion, but 1) Live Nation is courting Janet as we speak and 2) Janet has been flirting to release music digitally for years and leave CDs behind for her mnow mature, non-tween audience. Now she can make the good stuff she used to be make without worrying about sales. I say good for her.
I know she's doing well withher tour now and you "have to bash" Perizzle Dizzle, but this was her decision in the face of some lesser choices she's agreed to - good for her. Like the many excellent reviews have been saying, this is def her turn around moment and I say about time!

I'm a Janet fan & all, but… I cannot believe is using that lame-ass excuse line about the Super Bowl being the reason Janet's been "held back" since then. Listen folks, negative press HELPS a person's career - not hurts it. What planet do you live on??? Ask Snoop Dogg, who was on trial for gun charges with a possible sentence of 25 yrs to life hanging in the balance, and he simultaneously had the #1 album in the country. Ask R. Kelly, who's had a kiddie porn case hanging over him for the last 6 years & getting called a child molester, while he continued to SELL MILLIONS every time. And the list goes on. Yet JANET is the ONE PERSON where negative press hurts her music & sales. Rrrrrrright…. The reality is, Janet's music has fallen off since the All For You album, and hence hasn't sold like the earlier albums. Period. Stop the excuses please.
And another thing: How far can a person reach, where they actually boast about TWO SHOWS having good turnout on a tour?? I mean, REALLY!! This is an artist who USED to sell out every show, no questions asked. Nowadays, if this same artist does 3-4 shows, and 2 get a nice turnout, that's somehow that she'll "forever be relevant"?? Come on, man, stop the reachin! If you like Janet, fine. So do I. But I'm not about to pretend I don't see the obvious, that's she's not a present-day musical force anymore. There's nothing wrong with that! Admitting that doesn't mean you don't love her anymore! She opened the tour in Vancouver, and drew HALF of the house in ticket sales. We conveniently glance over that little fact, and just focus on the 2 shows that came after it. That's the kinda thing that makes it look like some people are reaching, just to carry the torch for JJ. I guess, when you don't sell a FRACTION of the records you used to (insert Super Bowl excuse #487 here), and you start bouncing from label to label (Hilarious, somehow they ALL just refuse to promote her properly…. rrrright) while you're busy making sub-par music compared to the music you USED to make…. when all that's true, I guess having nice crowds for 2 shows on a tour IS all that's left for someone brag about in the modern era. Listen, guys & gals, Janet is an icon, but this is the age of Beyonce, Alicia, and Rihanna (especially the first 2) - REGARDLESS of which of them you turn your nose at.

Wow so much negativity… I still don,t get if all you haters dislike Janet and her music so much why comment? There are plenty of artists who produce quality music and still remain relevant no matter how old they are… Music in my own opinion is for everyone… And I have more respect for all artists who last decades not like the flash in the pan ones like Rhianna pleasee… Janet videos and dancing is a blueprint of what all the current artists are still copying i.e. Beyonce, Britney,Ciarra, etc

I was at her show in L.A. last week and that girl worked it! No one puts on a show like Janet and she is still a diva, so these people can just keep on hating all the want.
