A Very Important Message From….

Yes!

Ellen DeGeneres has posted the following on her official website.

The newly married talk show host says:

"My Political Point… And I Do Have One

You know how usually I talk about cell phones or kitty cats or cheese pizza… well, this is sorta like that… without the cell phones, the cats, or the pizza.

There’s a California Proposition on the ballot that’s a little confusing. It’s Proposition 8. It’s called, “The California Marriage Protection Act” — but don’t let the name fool you. It’s not protecting anyone’s marriage. Not yours. Not mine.

The wording of Prop 8 is tricky. It’s like if someone asked you, “You don’t want dessert, right?” But you do want dessert so you say, “Yes,” which really means you don’t want dessert. And if you say, “No,” which means you do want dessert — it sounds like you don’t. Either way, you don’t get what you want. See — confusing. Just like Prop. 8.

So, in case I haven’t made myself clear, I’m FOR gay marriage. And in order to protect that right — please VOTE NO on Proposition 8. And now that you’re informed, spread the word. I’m begging you. I can’t return the wedding gifts — I love my new toaster."

it's none of my business who you fuck and vice versa. why must the state try to control everything? if it's about breeding, hey, there are plenty of non-hetero couples breeding–so there is no reason to stop people from being with who they want.

Re: storytellin – IT'S HAPPENED IN CANADA ALREADY, WITH NO MAJOR COLLISIONS ON TH ETRAFFIC REPORTRS! ARE YOU SERIOUS???? THIS ISN'T 200 BC!!!!

    3. 103

It really annoys me when people disagree with gay marriage because they say it is a "religious rite." Well, you can get married without a priest and outside of a church, (thankfully). It is more of a legal thing now, and it's about human rights. If you are born a different way than most, there is no reason why you should have different rights than everyone else. Vote NO on Prop. 8, and help our country get out of the fuckin Puritan times!

      sickening, isn't it?
      -
You all would be surprised how often that little trick is done -
      -
I've been a "poll official" (silly title - I was only a volunteer to check people in at polls) - but we all - which were Dems and Repub. volunteers — became aware of it - and let the folks voting know about it.
      -
only fair and right thing to do.

    7. 107

Wow! Can you imagine how many people will be heart broken if this is made a law?

    12. 112

I am gay and I live in Fl, the state that will not even allow a gay couple to adopt let alone get married. I feel that we should have all the rights that any American has, afterall we are all human!

    13. 113

I love how people are so quick to insult homosexuality and say it's immoral and then when it's time to give facts about the statement all they can come up with is excerpts from the bible.

When history looks back on this day, they will ridicule the people who voted Yes on Proposition 8…My boyfriend said this is the equivalent to Womans Suffrage and he is totally right. Most homosexual couples have extremely long-term relationships and are totally committed and devoted to each other. With that being said, they cannot share health care or enjoy the ceremony of being married just because some people out there feel that a mere BOOK is to determine the lives of people? Times are changing, and I guess I am a little more open minded because I was born and raised in NY and live in NYC and see homosexuals EVERYWHERE.

I really want to slap the fuck out of these bible thumpers and shove the bible down their throats because all these people have the same damn ammunition and it's tiring. I do not practice my faith, and am questioning it as well, but if God does exist–doesn't he love EVERYONE?

      Fucking assholes.

    14. 114

this is exactly what happened in denver. There was a issue on the ballot to give gay people common law rights. So if you were living with someone for years and they were your partner a doctor could disclouse medical advice to the partner. Everyone in colorado voted yes on it but it was terribly misleading AND THAT YES EVERYONE WANTED TO GIVE WAS A NO ACTULLY!!!

    15. 115

      Re: melissadylan77

Most of my family lives in FL and I lived there for a few months…I am not surprised they are that strict but you have to question a state who won't mandate people who ride motorcycles to wear helmets!

    16. 116

i love ellen. i think if straight people can ruin marriages and get divorced 10 times easy, then let the gays have a crack at it.

    17. 117

      Re: StayTrue

nothing i quoted in the scriptures said anything about no homos being married, it was for an explaination of tolerance ya moron.

IF WE LET GAY PEOPLE GET MARRIED, PRETTY SOON THEY WILL GET RID OF RELIGION. ARE U NOT UNDERSTANDING THAT? IT DOESNT HAVE TO DO WITH JUST CHRISTIANITY, IT HAS TO DO WITH EVERYTHING PEOPLE BELIEVE IN, JEWS, BUDDISTS, HIPPIES, CRACKHEADS, EVERYTHING!!!!

    18. 118

I am very confused now. Perez please explain why no on prop 8! I am all for gay marriage. Yes, I am gay. I wish that Ellen had given a better reason than just 'confusing'. Why is it confusing and misleading?!

    19. 119

lol i love my new toaster

    20. 120

Ellen cracks me up . . . I love my new toaster haha

    23. 123

Re: storytellin – You honestly think that the legality of gay marriage creates the end of religion? If you really do believe such a thing, you absolutely win with the most irrational, dumbest comment I have ever read about gay rights issues. Good luck with that one ..

    24. 124

"i can't return the wedding gifts… i love my new toaster."
nice. i love her. what is the deal with this prop 8 thing..? did they give us the right to marry in california… then choose to possibly take it away? is that whats really going on here?
someone answer… i'm a little unclear on this.

Re: jjacey – s the deal with this prop 8 thing..? did they give us the right to marry in california… then choose to possibly take it away? is that whats really going on here?
someone answer… i'm a little unclear on this.

Yes, state supreme court ruled it's not UNCONSTITUTIONAL to not allow gay people the same rights and marriage became legal this summer. Then the right wing Christian nuts jobs got all bent out of shape and put it on the ballot to take away this right. If you VOTE NO ON 8 - marriage stays legal….vote yes and gay people are once again told they are NOT equal and the right is taken way.

This is like marching to Selma in the 60s - you either are for equality or against it. Will you march or sit back and say those "uppity folk want equality? How dare they!" VOTE NO ON 8 and if not from CA - go to the web page and send in $5.00 for equality!

    26. 126

I think this Proposition 8 is so terrible, everyone should have the right to Marriage, it's about LOVE, not what Gender or Sex you are. I will definitely be voting NO on Proposition 8 in California and I hope everyone else who lives in Cali will do the same!

    27. 127

Re: frankiefrancisco – Prop. 8 BANS gay marriage. Vote NO to keep it from being banned. If you vote yes, you support Prop. 8, which wants to ban gay marriage. It is very confusing and misleading, which is so sneaky and evil of those in favor of Prop. 8. So SICK that people want to ban it. VOTE NO NO NO NO NO

    28. 128

Re: KOOL KID – thanks so much. that is really messed up tho. god damn… just makes me so annoyed with people! what makes us so fucking different. isn't love, just love?

    29. 129

Fantastic! They both look gorgeous. Separate is unequivocally not equal. Haven't we learned this lesson already? Apparently not… Congratulations to Ellen and Portia! Continue to fight for love and equality.

Re: www.meetyourmeat.com – "Thou shalt not judge" is not one of the Commandments. I believe that you meant #9…You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. But, even that one refers to lying and gossiping….not passing judgment.

The government is SICK for even trying to ban gay marriage!! I llove ellen!!

    36. 136

Ellen is awesome. Gotta love these people pushing crap like that proposition 8 in california.. Love thy neighbor, unless you disagree with them, then just do whatever you can to treat them like garbage.

    37. 137

      YAY FOR ELLEN. love her.

Re: storytellin – My definition of 'tolerance' is…The capacity for, or the practice of, recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others.
Yep….gotta love the 'Good Book'. Even the worst hell-bound heathen can read random scriptures, and interpret them to suit his/her own personal agenda.

    40. 140

Wow, you really think that's enough? Why doesn't she put her money where her mouth is? That is simply not good enough Perez and I'm surprised you think it is.

They both look absolutely GORGEOUS in this photo. I hope Ellen & Portia are giving some money to help make sure Proposition 8 is defeated.

    42. 142

      awwww i

    43. 143

      Re: StayTrue
      I agree.
You know, I am over this whole same-sex marriage debate.
I don't understand what the big deal is. Two people in love want to share their lives with each other.
People are entitled to their opinions and religious beliefs. However, they are not entitled to dictate other people's life choices.
How is same-sex marriage a threat to anyone or anything?
It is definitely not a threat to the "sanctity" of marriage. Unfaithful straight men and women are more of a "threat".
I invite people to do a little research. Google same-sex unions and marriages throughout history. You will find some interesting information.
Oh, and PLEASE can people voting yes on this sneaky attempt to discriminate give one valid SECULAR and LOGIC reason to justify it?
My reason to vote NO?.. in a country that prides itself in it's freedom, there is no room for religious faith based discrimination.

    44. 144

I love her. im so glad action is finally taking place for gay marriage :D
…and im not even a lesbian haha i just think its right!

    45. 145

      Ellen is amazing!

    46. 146

      i love ellen : )

    47. 147

      omg she looks so pretty(:
      I LOVE ELLEN!

    48. 148

Re: LusciousLiz – I agree, I think that Ellen and Portia are a lovely couple, and Ellen is hilarious– but, coming from a religious background, I disagree with allowing gays to marry, simply because I believe marriage is a sacred institution to unite a worthy man and worthy woman (not just some stupid punk kids who got drunk in vegas!) who love one another. I understand that homosexuals can have strong love for one another as well, but I cannot bring myself to cast a "no" vote for this proposition because of the beliefs I hold in my religion. I think it's horrible for crazy religious fanatics to belittle the gay/lesbian/etc… community and do horrendous, vile things to them (that's downright satanic, you religous crazy-people), but I must state that I do not agree with the lifestyle choice either.

    49. 149

      Cheap cheap. Typical dyke.
