Floridians: Vote and Say No to 2!

noto2.jpg

It's not just California in a fight for equality!

Perezzer's is a native Floridian and we felt obliged to bring an important issue to the attention of y'all in our home state!

Take a moment to look closely at Amendment 2, which is seeking to write discrimination into law.

The Orlando Sentinel and 10 other Florida papers urge you to say NO.

Here are 6 good reasons why you should vote NO on 2 too:

1. Taking Away Benefits: Amendment 2 could take away existing benefits from all unmarried Floridians

2. Hurting Seniors. Amendment 2 could force seniors to choose between important benefits like sharing health care and important government benefits.

3. "Gay Marriage" Bait & Switch: Amendment 2 claims to ban "gay marriage" but Florida already has multiple laws banning same-sex marriage

4. Massive Government Intrusion: Amendment 2 puts the government where it doesn't belong - regulating the personal relationships of Floridians.

5. Hiring Expensive Lawyers: Amendment 2 could force unmarried Floridians to hire expensive private lawyers just to protect their basic legal rights.

6. Dramatic Consequences: Amendment 2 could take away job benefits from university employees and be used as a defense to domestic violence - as in other states which passed similar amendments.

But, regardless of where you stand, be sure you're registered to vote!

  6. 6

they arent the only ones….arizona is going to have to vote on the same thing also!

  7. 7

Christ, i used to live in FL , those old people will get all fucked up and confused and vote the wrong way. and seriously, it's no wonder the vote counting gets fucked up there, the volunteers are like 90 and can't see or hear.

  8. 8

Good luck in Fla. Perez, your peeps (Cuban-Americans) and most Floridians are all republicans and they do not care about people's rights like the Dems do.

  9. 9

I live in Orlando and they keep running the ads to say no on 2 here. I'm voting no, but I can't speak for the redneck retards that dominate north florida…

  10. 10

    i'm a redneck…

  11. 11

don't you think it's a bit hypocritical that you supported Hillary Clinton who was all about equal rights for Gay Americans? you had no problem with the government possibly being involved in personal relationships when it would have benefitted you, but you seem to be very against involvement when it will NOT benefit you. mighty hypocritical. that being said it's none of the government's business who anyone sleeps with or has a relationship with. the government is already involved in too much, they need to step back. something democrats don't seem to understand. FYI: i'm independent.

  12. 12

    don't live there.

Re: Buttsex – i love tushy time! :)

  14. 14

    WHOOAH!

  15. 15

Re: kuntrageous – How can you honestly believe that being for gay marriage automatically means you want the government to be involved in peoples' relationships? I honestly couldn't give a shit about someone's sexuality and I don't think it's anyone's place or business to try and regulate it. Some people don't believe in marriage (like Goldie Hawn) but can you honestly say that they shouldn't have some of the same rights as someone who is "legally" married?

    Re: harrysnatch

    and your proud of that?

  18. 18

Can someone explain why this Amendment could be used as a defense to domestic violence? can't figure that one out!

  19. 19

Re: kuntrageous – What kind of BS is that??!! Being for gay marriage means you want the government OUT of your private life. They shouldn't have the right to tell anyone who they can marry or have a relationship with. The gay community wants equal rights, not special rights!

  20. 20

wtf? Ban marriage and take away benefits, that sounds kinda douchey move to me. Good think I don't live in FL.

  21. 21

Re: CoDy A – not sure which one you're referring to….me being a redneck (not so much anymore. i'm in cali now. i wouldn't make it bein a redneck…i'm just tan now….) or tushy time and well….yeah. i'm proud of that!

  22. 22

Gay marriage should be illegal 400 times in the law books. vote yes on 2. Make it 5 times illegal for same sex marriage. It's disgusting.

  23. 23

Wow perez, KUDOS for posting about this on your site! I've been coming to your site forever but this is the first time I have been inspired to send you a comment, THANK U for getting this issue out there! :~P

  24. 24

This is the most infuriating post I have ever seen on this site. Perez, you are in no place to inform anyone about politics. This is a place where I go to see celebrity gossip not your biased and ignorant political views. I do not have enough time to list what is wrong with this post, but I will say what angered me the most. Click here to learn more about amendment 2 takes you to www.sayno2.com THAT IS NOT LEARNING MORE!!!!

    Re: WakeUpPeople

    Preach!

  26. 26

    Re: njpaul0129

Because it's disgusting to you has anything to do with the people who it affects??

    PURE EVIL.

  27. 27

Re: njpaul0129 – What any same sex marriage will affect your own marriage? Let it be !

  28. 28

That's the problem with this country: you must register to vote. If it was enough that people was a registered citizen of USA a lot more people would vote.

  29. 29

I am from Florida and I say Vote yes on 2…. you are only presenting one side to this Perez and of course it is your right to do so, but I will be voting yes… If you dont like it dont come back to Florida even further, if you dont like it dont move here.

  30. 30

Re: Nickysue – get off your high horse and remember you have no right to decide for other floridians that they cant have the rights that you have. go on and enjoy your life and let others do so to instead of getting involved. people like you disgust me.

  31. 31

wtf is wrong w/ our government?
    This makes me sick.

  32. 32

Re: harrybalsac – obviously you've never been to florida…

  33. 33

Re: njpaul0129 – WHy?? what the hell is wrong with you?

  34. 34

What is this BS? Trying to write discrimination into law? Did they forget what century this is?

  35. em88 says – reply to this

    35

    Good luck Florida!

My state (VA) passed a similar law 2 years ago, because too many right wing nutjobs had people convinced that it was about banning gay marriage, even though there have been laws over 30 years old that have banned gay marriage. As a result, you have no sort of rights unless you and your partner are married.

  36. 36

Mario-Perez, thanks for posting this. I live in Florida and I didn't know about this being on the ballot in November. I can't wait to vote 'no'!

  37. 37

    poop?

  38. 38

I live in Orlando and I've been working first hand with Equality Florida and the GLBSU of UCF. We're working really hard to beat this thing. We do phone banking, clubbing for fairness, and tons of other events to get the word out there. The bad guys need 60% to get this thing passed and it's really close right now but I think we have a good chance of beating this. There's enough support and Ad's to vote no. The only downfall is moron Charlie Christ just passed something where your address you're registered with has to match the address on your license. Well a huge voter turn out we hope for is going to be college students who are registered to vote in florida but haven't changed their addresses to their dorm rooms or apartments down here. College students aren't required to change their address so this new law is going to screw over a lot of people when they go to vote. The republicans are doing whatever low tricks they can to get this passed.

  39. 39

Perez- Go screw yourself. Censorship at it's best. You know I'm not the only voter you've pissed off out there. I also used to visit your sponsors…done with that now too.

  40. 40

Thank you so much Perez for posting this!! DEFEAT 2!

  41. 41

I'm fucking moving to Canada. Seriously.

  42. 42

i live in florida, and everyone here is fucking republican.
i hate hate hate hate hate it.
the un wed and gays should have a right to happiness and the same rights as everyone else.
everyone here stupidly voted on amendment 1, which was this long confusing property tax school tax thing, and now they all regret it, becuase noone took he time to actually understand what they were voting yes to.

and about the whole redneck thing everyone is posting about, my city is all middle-upper middle class housing developements, not forests, and the kids around here dress to school like they expect to shoot a deer in the classroom.
then at the end of the day they get in their sportscars and drive home.

    i wish i could vote =/

  43. 43

They're trying to pass it (again) in AZ also! Don't right wing nut jobs have anything better to do with their time?

  44. 44

why is this happening? I thought things where getting better for us…? :(

  45. 45

I'm in Orlando as well, and I can guarantee that myself and all of my friends will be voting no. :)

  46. 46

Good on everyone who votes no!

I live in new Zealand. It's pretty sweet, although gay marriage is illegal. There is such thing as a civil union. Which is similar.
Which lets homosexual couples be recognized as couples in New Zealand. You can also get a civil union if you are heterosexual too.
