British comedian and Office creator/producer Ricky Gervais' presenting gig was one of the few glimmers of light during Sunday's barely watched Emmy Awards ceremony.
His memorable appearance has done him some good as peeps in Hollywoodland are reportedly clamoring for the man to host next year's Oscars.
His reps have supposedly been besieged with inquiries about his availability and were urged to book a meeting with Academy Awards organizers.
Would he be the first Brit ever to serve as host?
Ricky is funny, but is he the right man for the job?

He is hilarious and would do a great job! I was not a fan of Ghost Town, but his British Office is the funniest thing I've ever seen. And I say this even though I typically hate all things combining Brits and television.

Am a Brit bt I jst dnt find him funny, da idiot tries way too hard. the only acting bit of his i have liked are in tv shows like The office & Extras. he can't really do comedy on live shows I've seen his stand up comedy and things like the Diana concert and it was just plain cringing. I for one won't be watching da oscars if he's presenting it!!!!

I love Ricky gervais, but after seeing him crash and burn in some live situations (excluding his hilarious emmy appearance,) I'm kind've worried. This would be alot of American's first glance at him, and I don't want him to lose any fans.

Actually, Lawrence Grant hosted the Oscars in 1931, the Fourth ceremony. And after him came David Niven, Dudley Moore, and a whole bunch of other people.
YES!! The oscars really does need to step it up with its hosts, other than Ellen, the entire show for the past few years has been a drag. Let's hope Ricky gets the gig and brings along Steve and Karl for some skits.
