In Jail Over 1,000 Times!
As you might have heard by now, reports are circulating the Internets about Kentucky man Henry Earl being arrested for the 1,000 time this week!
Well, it turns out the reports are not accurate.
The story was picked up by some bloggers and a Kentucky TV station that used the 58-year old's online public records dating back to 1992 to determine the number of arrests.
There's one problem, though.
They managed to miss all his arrests prior to 1992!
Turns out that Earl, who often goes into episodes of public drunkenness, has been arrested more than 1,000 times.
In fact, he reached his 1,000 arrest milestone back in mid 2002!
Earl has been arrested in Fayette County 1,333 times!!
Crazy!
He's also spent over 5,000 days in custody.
Ok, this man is wasting too much tax-payer dollars.
According to official documents, his first arrest was back in July 1970 at 20 years-old for carrying a concealed weapon.
And since then, things have just gone down hill.
Wonder if he has his own personalized jail cell????

Clearly this guy wants to live in jail. They do provide housing and free food even though it's from taxpayers money. With the economy now if i hit my lowest, god forbid, i might want to do something to got to jail just for the housing even though it limits my freedom of going outside.

Re: Tanpopo – actually, you have to pay to house yourself in jail here. i think it's $27.50 a day, but i'm not entirely sure, i've never been to jail. i know that's how it is in my county anyway, i'm guessing it's like that in most other counties too.

I used to work in Lex and yes this guy hangs around the bars around the univeristy, high st, woodland av. euclid, etc. and hes always drunk in public which are most of the arrests and i used to server man coffee from a restaurant that will remain nameless.

I'm originally from Lexington KY. We used to call him James Brown because if you'd give him booze money he'd dance for you. Don't get to close though, brothers got HEP C.
So, I went to the University of Kentucky in Lexington…while I was there Henry, so was Henry. would get arrested damn near on a nightly basis. Basically, he knew he would get a warm place to sleep and a free meal…they always release inmates from the "drunk tank" in the morning. He's a local celebrity with the college kids. The students move on, but he's still up to the same old tricks. Consider it a Rite of Passage to be arrested and in the tank with Henry.
The TV news station that you referenced did not "miss" all of his arrests prior to 1992. The Lexington Fayette Urban County Government did not record arrests prior to arrests prior to 1992 on its web site. The station did its homework and did not miss anything.

Governments and Courts have created a revolving door for criminals. Criminals know that there are no long-term consequences or solutions, so they repeat that which is familiar to them. For some people, jail is a hot meal and a long nap. While everyone complains, many criminals are not thrilled about it either. Many are not committing crimes and vagrancies to be rebels; but because they have problems with unemployment and drug or alcohol additions that flowed from abusive childhoods. Change will not begin to happen until society comes to realize that these people are as much victims, as they are offenders. Maybe if children were not shuffled from one abusive foster home to the next, or raped by pedophiles, or beaten by bullies, maybe they could grow up to be contributors to society, instead of takers……
The American culture really needs to grow up itself. It is unconscionable to make sport of degrading these people, many of whom have tragic life histories. There will always be greater and lesser people than yourself, but the American culture has become conditioned to be careless and unforgiving towards these people; an attitude of arrogance. The tax dollars that are spent on the revolving doors could be greatly reduced by helping and teaching these people HOW to become proud and independent citizens, instead of serving them up as the ball in a perpetual game of ping pong between the streets and the jails. They are human beings; they are your fellow Americans; some of them are American veterans. It is not sensible to blame them for the events in their lives or childhoods that have left them unprepared to cope.

Do you live downtown? My brother and my friends have all run into the man many many times. My neighbors gave him beer a couple weeks ago. He said he hadn't been arrested in three days.

I currently live in Lexington, ky… and I went to the University of Kentucky… and Henry Earl is definitely something of a legend. I have met this mess of a guy NUMEROUS times bc he does not shy away from trying to steal alcohol from college houses or parties. Hes honestly harmless.. he just needs rehab. STAT.

Until you meet the man, you cannot hate on Henry Earl! He is a Legend around town. His specialty is doing an impersonation of James Brown (singing and dancing) and he'll talk to anyone about anything anytime. Most of the time he's just looking to get business owners to call the cops, but most of them strike a deal. They'll call the cops, and he can chill out till they get there, and then he makes all the ruckus he wants to go to jail. There's even a website to track his in jail or out of jail status

Oh, Henry. Henry is harmless. I live in Lexington (Fayette Co) and Henry is everywhere (when he's not in jail). Nearly all of his arrests are for public intoxication. He's not a bad guy, just would rather sleep in a jail cell then on the streets. He has a Facebook account!!! And there's a great section on him in Wikipedia… check it out. The mug shots (on Facebook) are priceless!!! In addition to James Brown, he also impersonates Bruce Lee, another of his heros. Love Henry Earl!

i used to live and go to school in lex and worked right by campus… henry "james brown" was always around…he would come into the bar i worked at and im pretty sure i saw him get thrown out 100 times and arrested 50…. he was a nice man just a huge drunk…
