The Bailout Is Approved!

Hours before the President was supposed to host a meeting between Obama and McCain, Democratic and Republican senators emerged from a 2 hour powwow with an agreement on a $700 billion bailout to help an economy teetering on the edge of a serious recession.
McCain may have to go to the debate after all!!!!
With new home sales dropping and applications for unemployment benefits rising, the economy has become a popular theme and in the face of some potentially very serious problems, Republicans and Democrats have pulled together.
Today's agreement reflects a renewed spirit of bipartisanship. Or so we hope!
The new game plan seems to look good to everyone and comes just in time.
This is just after McCain wanted to put a hold on his campaign yesterday with the election a little more than a month away and wanted to do his own bailing out of the first presidential candidate debate.
With a plan set in motion, now what Mr. McCain?

I have to disagree that "the plan seems to look good to everyone". Representative Hoyer was on the John Gambling show this morning on WOR and he voiced a common congressional concern that this plan may not help the economy at all. In fact, the representatives are nervous about its unwindings. Although the stock market did settle upon a 250 point gain, this confidence in a workable plan may be short lived.

A point to be made here, that I haven't heard mentioned at all, is that If Obama is so efficient at multi-tasking, what exactly is he doing to address the financial crisis while still campaigning and prepping for the debate? I've heard a lot of rhetoric and seen a lot of finger pointing coming from his camp, but I haven't heard one substantial word on what he suggests we do about it. He wouldn't have even been at his desk doing the job that he was hired to do by his constituents if McCain hadn't publicly called for Bush to set up a bipartisan meeting, INCLUDING himself and Obama, and if Bush hadn't personally requested Obama be there. Or maybe Obama is so good that he could solve the crisis by phone in between rallies?
Obviously, there's no need to actually BE in congress to be IN congress.

This is not yet finalized, the only people saying it's a done deal are Baney Frank and Dodd. Frank and Dodd are the same two a few years ago that said Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were just fine and didn't need new regulations. McCain sponsered legislation in 2005 that would have put stricter regulations on these companies, he said that if we didn't pass it Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae would fall, and he was right. In the committee that voted on that legislation all the Republicans supported it and the Democrats voted it down. McCain knows economy, and he know he still has a job as senator to be in Washington during a national crisis. Obama should follow McCain and put his presidential ambitions aside and put the country first. McCain's not backing out of a debate, he asked Obama to town hall debates numerous times to which Obama declined.
Hello? McCain was trying to do his JOB which is to address national issues and vote on legislation. No wonder Obama doesn't want to postpone the debate, if Congress votes on this legislation Obama wouldn't want to cast a vote that would alianate voters would he? I would love to hear something besides empty rethoric from him. And check the facts Perez, McCain wanted to do an additional 10 "town-hall" style meetings that would have taken questions from the crowds there.
