Was This Really Necessary???

It's no question that Hollywood loves money and that movie-goers love Will Smith, so naturally the only way to extend the box-office success of the post-apocalyptic I Am Legend is to make, well, a prequel.
Because that's exactly what the world needs - a prequel of THAT film!
Left with few other options since a) the original film is about the end of the world and b) Will Smith dies, Warner Bros. had to go back in time in order to keep Will in the lead and keep the money rolling in.
They've hooked D.B. Weiss into writing the script, which is based on a detailed outline conceived by Will, I Am Legend and its prequel director Francis Lawrence, Smith's Overbrook Entertainment partner James Lassiter and Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman.
Let's hope it doesn't flop! Or, we should say, let's hope it DOES!

It was a pretty good movie, but the injustice of paying $15 for it in a hotel room kind of spoiled it overall. Would have been better as a $3 rental.

Problem is that Hollywood cannot come up with anything original, although my own life story (baseball) would be great on screen (if only I could write dialogue). Anyhoo, this Will Smith stuff is all based on the novella I am Legend by Richard Matheson. Think the powerbrokers should leave well enuf alone.

That is completely understandable since I am Legend left me with more questions than answers, they need to explain a little bit more about that visrus that turn people into zombies, why was Will the only one to survive in NY, etc.. so i'll definately will be watching!
I HATED that movie. I thought it was awful.
well for one it's not going to flop with will smith in it. he is big money at the box office. i love the first movie but i really dont see how a prequal will be that exciting. what made the first one interesting was him being the only one on earth and the zombies creatures. they should make a sequal of what happens after the first and just not cast will!

Didnt the movie tell us everything we needed to know and therefore a prequel isnt really needed? COME ON… you people in Hollywood need to open your minds to some new things….. were are all the "When Harry Met Sally" movies and the fun goofy movies that people actually want to see…… Something they can ESCAPE TO…. Get a grip.

Re: Nickysue – No, you dont know what caused the virus in the first place. in the movie all it said that they found a cure for cancer, and boom the virus hit. so we really dont know how the virus really got developed. and how did it get spread, and why was will the only person not infected. im excited about the prequal. hopefullly they willanswer all of my god dam questionst his time.

I would watch the prequel because I love disaster movies, hopefully it's as good as 28 days later.
plesae i hope not…i mean the movie was great but its not like it opened up in the middle of a major war - why a prequel? do another side of the story - perhaps in another country mabye.
or even better, let a good movie go its way and be remembered as such…

Re: LatinDaddy – Well said. I think there is a lot they can share in a prequel. For instance how they realized those infected with the virus don't like the cold, or how the Rutland, VT community was established. I agree - lots of goods…there is a TON of suspense opportunity. And a lot of heart-wrenching storylines that can be developed, damn…it could be quite an emotional thriller.

After seeing this movie the first thing I said was that they should make a prequel - there was A LOT that they didn't include in the movie! Things about the supposed "cure" and how all hell broke lose!…So honestly, a prequel will probably do good because there were questions to be asked and answers needed to fill in the holes the movie left!

If they would have made this movie like it was written, it would've been way better! The book takes places in the 50's in Compton, as in, Compton, the scary ghetto. In the book, the main character is a confused white guy who has no fucking clue what is going on, he's not at all what Will Smith was in the movie. The book is intriguing because you are united in confusion with the main character, there are no answers or a hope for a cure. The Will Smith version handed it to people, they dumbed it down for the masses, and it was a fucking failure. I hated this movie, and if they ever remake it, I hope that it's made for the people with brains.
For starters this rumour has been g oing on for months so it's old news. Secondly, it wasn't a bad movie to begin with, but lets face it, it's not oscar material to begin with, to those who critise FFS, do you really go into a movie like this thinking it's going to be the bet movie you've ever seen. That's like going to see Dude Where's My Car then complaining it didn't stimulate you.

Really? Is this really going to happen? I haven't even seen this (possibly terrible) movie mostly because when I was in high school I read the book. And honestly, I couldn't much see the amazing book being made into a movie, it just seems too tough. And to MAKE IT WORSE… They got Will Smith to do it? And NOW, there's gonna be a prequel? Wow. I hate hollywood.
