Here's the Obama campaign's official statement about their candidate's performance:
"This was a clear victory for Barack Obama on John McCain's home turf. Senator McCain offered nothing but more of the same failed Bush policies, and Barack Obama made a forceful case for change in our economy and our foreign policy. While Senator McCain wants to keep giving huge tax cuts to corporations and said nothing about the challenges Americans are facing in their daily lives, Barack Obama will be a fierce advocate for tax cuts for the middle class, affordable health care, and a new energy economy that creates millions of jobs. While foreign policy was supposed to be John McCain's top issue, Barack Obama commanded that part of the debate with a clear call to responsibly end a misguided war in Iraq so that we can finish the fight against al Qaeda in Afghanistan. John McCain needed a game-changer tonight, and by any measure he didn't get it." Obama-Biden campaign manager David Plouffe.

I get the feeling that McCain thinks he's still living in the Cold War era and that every war is fought by dropping bombs. So sad. Someone needs to explain to McCain that his Bush-driven war stance of dropping bombs is NOT accurate for the 21st century. Wars today = TERRORISM–and, as IRAQ has shown, dropping bombs don't = success, but arrogance. Terrorism needs to be fought with INTELLIGENCE. All McCain knows is how to drop bombs. I felt I was listening to him recount his life story rather than tell what he PLANS to do.

i disagree with the statement from the mccain camp. i thought obama did a much better job, mccain kept stretching the truth and bullshitting everything. obama was clear and concise throughout. all of the polls and such that i have looked at had obama on top.

The economic portion of the debate was a wash. Neither did well. But McCain was the clear victor during the foreign policy portion. Barack seemed like he'd read up very well for his rehearsed answers, which I'd heard before. McCain shot from the hip, drawing from his vast experience. No comparison. Barack ended up looking like a college debater debating an experienced head of state.
I believe Obama won, but there was no real knock winner. Obama just did real good on a night that McCain should have more knowledge on. But i hope at the next one Obama doesnt play denfense and knocks the old man out!!!

Neither candidates did a great job. That being said, Obama still stammered and stuttered nervously through his sentences. If he can't be confident when making statements about our country how can I be confident he would be right as President of the US. I am not thrilled 100% with McCain, but he will def get my vote this election.

People just say the winner is whoever they intend to vote for. I honestly think McCain smashed Obama. Obama was getting flustered with all of his smirks to the camera, trying to interupt McCain, and continously signalling to the moderator to move on. McCain's comment about looking into Putin's eyes and seeing KGB and his comment about obama telling Ahmadinejad "no your not" were knock out punches. Obama had nothing to say to that.
I thought Obama won. McCain believe every sentence with taking cheap shots at Obama, he dodged his questions, and wouldn't give a straight answer. McCain statements were full of lies and half truths….. I was almost embarrassed for him. I cant believe that people would ACTUALLY consider putting this man in office. I actually saw the debate and McCain kept going back to the 70's with Nixon and the 80's with Reagan. These are two fine examples of presidents that kept the economy together. He wants to go full steam ahead with the war and pretend to fix the economy. That's a scary thought - depression !
The most obvious and bizarre thing about the debate was that McCain NEVER ONCE looked at Barack Obama during the entire debate. McCain was grimacing and hunched over and looked extremely angry the entire 90 minutes. McCain looked old and out of touch and Obama looked at ease and confident. Obama understands and will fight for the middle class and McCain only fights for the rich. A man with 8 houses and 13 cars does not and will not ever fight for me or the average person. He just doesn't get it. VOTE OBAMA!

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%..
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high–14,000
5) American's were buying new cars,taking cruises,vacations overseas, living large!…
But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes–we got 'CHANGE' all right. In the PAST YEAR:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted ;
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing!;
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a10% increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices still dropping;
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS.
YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE…AND WE SURE GOT IT! …
REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS. AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.Stop and think about that for a moment

I think Obama did a decent job, not a knock out performance there, but DEFINITELY better than McCain.
I think Obama's frustrations came from McCain's blatant lies and stubbornness. It's one thing to spread lies and promote bullshit when you're campaigning halfway across the nation, but to stand in front of this man and spew bullshit and yank half-truths out of his ass would piss me off too. At this point it's understood that McCain is old as shit and broke out his scuba diving gear as Moses parted the Red Sea, but he's awfully arrogant and condescending for no real reason other than the fact that he's a vet.
Some of the attributes that come with aging is forgetfullness, stubbornness, and the assumption that 'with all age comes wisdom and fuck how the times, technology, and world changes.' If that man wins, we're doomed.
