Here's the Obama campaign's official statement about their candidate's performance:
"This was a clear victory for Barack Obama on John McCain's home turf. Senator McCain offered nothing but more of the same failed Bush policies, and Barack Obama made a forceful case for change in our economy and our foreign policy. While Senator McCain wants to keep giving huge tax cuts to corporations and said nothing about the challenges Americans are facing in their daily lives, Barack Obama will be a fierce advocate for tax cuts for the middle class, affordable health care, and a new energy economy that creates millions of jobs. While foreign policy was supposed to be John McCain's top issue, Barack Obama commanded that part of the debate with a clear call to responsibly end a misguided war in Iraq so that we can finish the fight against al Qaeda in Afghanistan. John McCain needed a game-changer tonight, and by any measure he didn't get it." Obama-Biden campaign manager David Plouffe.

McCain kept lying all during the debate! Barack had to keep saying "john, that's not true". Is the reason for this that he doesn't have anything to say? Has he now caved on even his own principles? Or is he just forgetful?

Obama clearly won this debate and has now demonstrated to all of us that he is fully qualified to be Commander in Chief. He is even going to go get Bin Laden.

McCain did MUCH better. Obama bin biden with his uh uh, John's right, uh uh, stammerd his way through. People have to realize if he does win there will be change-horrible change.
HERE'S THE BOTTOM LINE EVERYONE: McCain MAY have done "great things" WAY back when—but those days are LONG GONE. He is elderly, sickly and has an atrocious Vice President. BOTH represent days and times LONG GONE (and thank God for that). I know a man who was a body builder in the 1950's. That was THEN…today he can no longer do that. All of the stress of this job alone would kill McCain. And how in the HELL can he be AT ALL in touch with this generation? Obama won this thing hands down. JP Morgan just bought $310,000 mortgages for $19,000 each. I wonder if I could buy some of these for $25,000 a piece? JP makes a profit and I could now rent these houses out for about $500 per month to families who are hurting. Of course, someday I could sell these homes for $100,000 and make a nice profit.

House Republicans are proposing an private insurance plan. Horsesh*t, a big cause of this mess is the 45 Trillion in existing private insurance. This is what happened to AIG. They could not pay the private insurance and now needed a 86 Billion, 12% loan from us already.

Both sides declaring victory. Sorry but all McCain came across as was a WAR president. I get the feeling that McCain thinks he's still living in the Cold War era and that every war is fought by dropping bombs. So sad. Someone needs to explain to McCain that his Bush-driven war stance of dropping bombs is NOT accurate for the 21st century. Wars today = TERRORISM–and, as IRAQ has shown, dropping bombs don't = success, but arrogance. Terrorism needs to be fought with INTELLIGENCE. All McCain knows is how to drop bombs. I felt I was listening to him recount his life story rather than tell what he PLANS to do.

i disagree with the statement from the mccain camp. i thought obama did a much better job, mccain kept stretching the truth and bullshitting everything. obama was clear and concise throughout. all of the polls and such that i have looked at had obama on top.
McCain clearly won. i thought obama was going to cry at the end. it only made obama looked worse that obama would laugh when mccain talked. he's so disrespectful and if he wins we're screwed

The economic portion of the debate was a wash. Neither did well. But McCain was the clear victor during the foreign policy portion. Barack seemed like he'd read up very well for his rehearsed answers, which I'd heard before. McCain shot from the hip, drawing from his vast experience. No comparison. Barack ended up looking like a college debater debating an experienced head of state.
I believe Obama won, but there was no real knock winner. Obama just did real good on a night that McCain should have more knowledge on. But i hope at the next one Obama doesnt play denfense and knocks the old man out!!!
mccain showed everyone that he is out of touch with the american people as well as reality ( we're safer now than before 911) wtf planet is he living on? Obama ripped him a new one and the look on his face was priceless.
Neither candidates did a great job. That being said, Obama still stammered and stuttered nervously through his sentences. If he can't be confident when making statements about our country how can I be confident he would be right as President of the US. I am not thrilled 100% with McCain, but he will def get my vote this election.

People just say the winner is whoever they intend to vote for. I honestly think McCain smashed Obama. Obama was getting flustered with all of his smirks to the camera, trying to interupt McCain, and continously signalling to the moderator to move on. McCain's comment about looking into Putin's eyes and seeing KGB and his comment about obama telling Ahmadinejad "no your not" were knock out punches. Obama had nothing to say to that.
I thought Obama won. McCain believe every sentence with taking cheap shots at Obama, he dodged his questions, and wouldn't give a straight answer. McCain statements were full of lies and half truths….. I was almost embarrassed for him. I cant believe that people would ACTUALLY consider putting this man in office. Do you really want another republican in office? Someone that has voted with Bush 95% of the time? Thats another question he wouldn't answer last night. Wake up America.
