Project Runway Move to Lifetime BLOCKED by Judge!

| Filed under: TV NewsLegal MattersProject Runway

What a blow to the Weinsteins!

The never-ending Project Runway drama took a crazy turn on Friday afternoon.

A New York judge granted the parent company (NBC Universal) of Runway's 'old' home (Bravo) a preliminary injunction which bars the Weinstein Co. from moving the fashiony show to its 'new' home Lifetime for now.

Hope the Weinstiens haven't spent that big pile of cash that Lifetime forked over!

The show was supposed to premiere on Lifetime in January, but with this new ruling, who knows if that will happen!

But, the judge's ruling also bars the NBC people from airing the show on Bravo while the squabbling goes on.

A statement issued by NBC said: “The overwhelming evidence demonstrated that The Weinstein Company violated NBC Universal's right of first refusal to future cycles of ‘Project Runway'. After hearing all of the evidence, the court issued an order prohibiting The Weinstein Company from taking the show or any spinoff to Lifetime.”

The Weinstein Co. said on Friday it will appeal the injunction.

Well, apparently NBC Universal has better contract and court attorney's than the Weinstein Co. has.
If Lifetime hadn't checked out the legalities of the move, before they handed over any money….shame on them.

If they move Project Runway to California I'm DONE!! I love the fact that it takes place in NY. Ny is where fashion begins. California is crap when it comes to fashion.

I'm surprised Perez hasn't posted about the debate. He probably didn't watch it and if he did, he's feeling depressed McCain was so awesome!

Now don't you just feel silly for covering this "breaking story"? It will most likely stay on Bravo… who cares??!

i don't care what network has it as long as it stays on the air!

Good! I hope this stupid move to lifetime never happens. Who the hell watches life time anyway.

Re: KShay – The only time I watch (well, it's more like LISTEN) to Lifetime…is when I have to get up early to get my kid off to school. I have found that when there is a good program on the TV, in the morning…my kid eats, dresses and brushes his teeth in sloooooow motion. So, I put on Lifetime (for background noise)…and, he moves MUCH faster.
And, since my kid catches the bus at 7am…you can imagine what shows Lifetime airs between 6:15-7am. Hey, we parents have to do whatever it takes to get the kids going n the morning, don't we? lol

The Weinsteins are sleezebags. Contracts are meaningless to them. Ask the many unfortunate filmmakers who've gave Miramax distribution rights to their films. After Miramax signed the film, they would change the deal and if the filmmaker balked, the Weinsteins would threaten to shelve the film and never release it. No filmmaker wants their film to sit on a shelf for 20 years. The Weinsteins are legendary in the film biz for this bullshit. Contract Schontract.

this show sucks. i don't see why they can't choose to air on whichever tv station they want, but then again i don't get paid to know that. and i guess i don't really care… maybe the show will just disappear! then they could maybe put something decent on.
