The British media is reporting that George Clooney will play the Lone Ranger in the remake flick.
We previously mentioned that Johnny Depp landed the 'sidekick' role of Tonto in the remake.
George and Johnny in one movie?!?!
We're beyond excited about this possibility!!!
An insider revealed to the tabloid, "George is very keen — he’s been trying to do a movie with Johnny for a long time. He thinks they’ll make the perfect on-screen partnership.”

I love Johnny Depp…but, I wonder how long it will take for the critics to slam this movie, simply because they aren't using a full-blooded Native American actor, to portray Tonto.
No, I won't go to see this movie. Not because of the Depp/Tonto thing….but, because I had to watch it EVERY Sunday, when I was a kid. There was nothing on TV, on Sunday mornings except The Lone Ranger and The Cisco Kid…..and, I am just a tad burnt out on it. lol

Like Anonymous (#4) said, I too grew up with westerns and am quite tired of the attempt to bring 'em back. But George & Johnny? Yummm. While I think George a bit long in the tooth to portray the masked man, he does have that intoxicating voice. And I think Depp must have a bit of indian in him, no?

Re: sparkys nemesis – After reading your comment, I did a bit of research…and, it does state that he is part Cherokee. But, that wasn't exactly what I was getting at, in my initial comment.
Most of us are PART Native-American. My great-grandmother was full-blooded Blackfoot Indian, and still living on a reservation…when my great-grandfather came over from Norway and married her. But, I would never presume to portray a Native American, in a show/movie/play (especially when there are so many fine actors/actresses who could do the role justice), just because I am 'part Native American'.
although I agree JD is hot, he is not Native American amd it may be inappropriate to cast him as there are some good (and hot) NA actors out there like Nathaniel Arcand or Adam Beach. Both who would look great with their shirts off!!!

Sounds like it will be another Batman & Robin fiasco. George Clooney isn't good at playing action heroes.
The role suits him very well. Can't say I'm excited about this subject as a move though, but I'm sure they will make it very good.

Johnny's Grandmother is Cherokee Indian. That's good enought for me. Besides, how do we know that Tonto's mother wasn't a "white" woman - LOL! To compare this movie to the televion series is like comparing Pirates of the Caribbean the movie to Pirates of the Caribbean the Disney ride. I would like for the Lone Ranger to be a woman (in disguise) or someone a bit more rugged (not so polished as George) like Viggo Mortensen or Hugh Jackman.
This will probably not be a serious remake, but a movie full of ironic references to the original show. The result can end up being watchable. We'll see.
Re: cheesecake – I have watched MANY, MANY episodes of The Lone Ranger…and, to this day, I still don't know if Tonto's mother (or father, for that matter) was 'white', or not. I, even, went so far as to do some research before commenting back to you…and, nothing was stated about his being the issue of a caucasian/NA union. Which does not surprise me, since The Lone Ranger (and Tonto) were created BEFORE 1933…and, multi-ethnic unions were not exactly embraced and held in high regard, at the time.
THAT being said…your examples of 'comparisons' are ridiculous.

Somehow I doubt the two biggest movie stars in the world would choose a project like this to work together. Unless there is some major twist to this screenplay, Clooney's not Batman-ing his way back to mainstream film.

anonymous, Don't you realize the HISTORICALLY, the white man took advantage of Indian women, much like they did the women in sold into slavery? Such unions were NOT rare. I never said that there was any evidence that Tonto's mother was white. I simply meant that Disney could take any number of directions and liberties with the story. This is a movie BASED on the Lone Ranger, much like Pirates was BASED on the ride.
Johnny Depp would be great as Tonto! Keith Richards was an inspiration for Captain Jack, and I believe that there was little of Micheal Jackson in Willy Wonka. I wonder who Johnny will emulate as Tonto? Any thoughts???

I'm about as Jewish as they get but I had a great-great grandmother who was full-blooded Choctaw (how she ended up with a German Jew is the stuff of family legend). But just because I have some choctaw genes doesn't mean that I get to claim myself 'Native American'. One relative does not an Indian make.

I would love to know how your great-great grandmother ended up with a German Jew, also. Family trees fascinate the hell out of me (as does anything concerning History).
I never meant to imply that this remake should never be made, or that Depp should never have been cast as Tonto. I just feel that it's not necessary for Caucasians to portray people of color, Asians, or Middle-Easterners, nowadays. Especially, when there are so many wonderful actors/actresses of all races and colors, who would be more believable, in the role. But, it's just MY opinion.

The two hottest men in movie history together in one flick? I'm there! There has to be a good reason these two find the script interesting. Johnny Depp has a nack for choosing great scripts and all the stuff George has been doing lately is great. So can't wait!
After reading some of the comments from the 'Tom Cruise/Valkyrie (my apologies, if I spelled it wrong) post….I find it funny (well, more disparaging, than funny, actually) that some find issue, in the fact, that Tom Cruise can't/won't speak German. But, yet some, of those same people, are 'okey dokey' with Johnny Depp portraying a full-blooded Native American…when he ISN'T.
