Little Matilda's Getting it All

| Filed under: Legal MattersHeath Ledger

Interesting development.

According to a new report, Heath Ledger's two-year-old daughter, Matilda, will inherit the entirety of the late Australian actor's estate, estimated to be worth $16.6 million.

Ledger had named his parents and sisters as the beneficiaries in his will, which was made before Matilda was born.

There had been speculation that Heath's ex and mother of Matilda, Michelle Williams, would lodge a claim on behalf of their daughter.

However, Heath's father Kim has just squashed the speculation and revealed that Matilda will inherit it all.

He told an Australian paper, "…Our family has gifted everything to Matilda."

That's what the actor would have wanted, right?

    first, bitches!

  2. 2

    I still can't believe he's gone :(

  3. 3

Thats whats up. The kid should inherit it all. Not the EX-girlfriend who popped out his kid and not the family who already lived their lives. Good decision ledger family.

  4. 4

    Classy, very classy.
    RIP Heath!!!!

  5. 5

    Good for the girl!

  6. 6

That's awesome! (now let's see if it really happens…)

  7. 7

That's great to hear that they weren't greedy about it. Money becomes a problem for so many people & it show that they are kind people.

My utmost respect to Heath's family…this is how it should be.

  9. 9

that's great that they're doing that without courts or any of that stuff

  10. 10

    aw good im glad!!

  11. 11

I do think is kinda sad that Michelle isnt getting anything, after all she was the wife and the mother

  12. 12

Glad to hear it. Shows the Ledger family is a class act.

  13. 13

Re: Gossip_Boy – Michell makes her own money and is probably relativly wealthy by normal standars..So no harm in my eyes.

  14. 14

    Lucky girl!
then again no amount of money in the world can replace my dad.
    stay strong Matilda

  15. 15

    Good for them!!!!

  16. 16

now THAT was a nice thing to do. they seem like a decent family. makes you wonder why heath didn't step up and change his will when the kid was born.

  17. 17

Hope this is the truth for she most certainly deserves it all. He adored that child and would've wanted it as such… Most of us when young believe we're invincible and don't update our will. He probably didn't even remember creating one to begin with. There never should have been a question about this and Michelle should be able to the interest to support Matidla, like a living trust. m.ct.

  18. 18

It's nice to see a selfless, good, and upstanding family that isn't fighting over the money or selling interviews to magazines. I would feel the same way even if they kept a little money for themselves — Matilda would be well taken care of with less than that. I would want it that way if I had tons of money. Some to my family, most to my children. But they are better people I guess. Good 'ole aussies. The Spears, Lohans, and Hogans need to take notes on how a family should act.

  19. 19

    She's set!

  20. 20

Oh good, maybe she can buy Mommy a new outfit.

  21. 21

I'm glad Ledger's family is doing what's right. Glad and… very surprised.

  22. 22

she is so cute I'm glad she's getting the inhertitence thats how it should be. I cant belive he's gone, he's such an amazing actor.

  23. 23

    Re: Hawkeye – agreed.

Re: Gossip_Boy – From my understanding, Heath and Michelle were NOT married. So, his estate (or, at least, the majority of it) should go to his child.
This just goes to show how important it is to update ones will, when circumstances (i.e. births, deaths, divorces, loss of favor) change.

  25. 25

i am so glad that they did the right thing.

Re: Hawkeye – I fully agree with your #18 comment. But, PLEASE, don't assume that only the wealthiest people need to make out a will. Whether you are poor, middle class, or have 'more money than God'….if you own a home, property, vehicles, bank accounts, stocks & bonds, certificates of deposits, knickknacks, etc., etc., etc., outright…..I advise you to make out a will.
If there is any worry about attorney's fees…go to your nearest office supply store (I went to Office Depot), and pick up a do-it-yourself will. Fill it out and get a notary public to officiate it (my personal banker did it for free). It will stand up in any court of law.

  27. 27

Absolutely. I commend his parents for making the RIGHT decision.

  28. 28

There is probably a lot more here than meets the eye. I think Heath's father was backed into a corner and that is why he is being so "generous." Michelle was probably going to challenge the will. If he doesn't want to be painted as a villain in the media and wants to see his granddaughter grow up, he has to play nice. Michelle would have a good case, so this way he comes out looking classy. I hope Matilda does get it all.

  29. 29

what the hell..that's all he had?! where's the batman money??

  30. 30

naturally i think its good that matilda should get most. But SOME should be left to his family, parents, sisters etc. like maybe 30% of it. PLUS matilda's getting all the profits of the movie with jude law, colin ferral, and johhny depp……i think THAT money should now go to a childrens charity…..matilda doesnt need ALL of that…….spread the money to others on need, im sure there are LOTS of kids out there who have lost thier parents who are in much dire need. As for Michelle, thry had broken up, and im sure shes not exactly begging for loose change in the streets…

  31. 31

Hopefully people will lay off badmouthing Heath's family now. They've done the right thing and shown themselves worthy of respect, so people should leave them alone now.

  32. Reg says – reply to this

Gifted?? Come on, it was hers anyway.

Glad they put a stop to this.

  33. 33

Yay for the kid… Let's just see if little Matilda's mommy won't carry away some of that money from her.Let's all just stay tune , to see what is going to happen in the next 5 to 15 years.

  34. 34

You can't trust Kim. there has to be a catch or a back door deal
    for him to be so ;generous;

  35. 35

This makes me so proud. I knew that Matilda would be taken care of and I am sure that this is actually what Heath would have wanted. I can't wait for that little girl to grow up and hear so many wonderful stories about her father. He was a wonderful man.

  36. 36

Wow - I have nothing but the utmost respect for Heath's family now. What a noble thing to do.

  37. 37

And I'm sure they would trade it all to have Heath back with his daughter and his family. R.I.P. dear Heath! His father seems like a good guy.

  38. 38

Whether Heath would have wanted it or not, let this be a lesson to everyone who owns even just a dog! MAKE A WILL. If you have an apartment and have stuff, just make a WILL and get it witnessed. If you have a bunch of stuff, use Legal Zoom. As Heath proved, you never know. Don't let all the lawyers and courts and family members fight over you.

  39. 39

Yes, it is exactly how it should be.

  40. 40

I'll believe it when Michelle confirms it…

  41. 41

if that's really what heath wanted/intended, i think he would have gotten his will changed when she was born. he should have anyway… i'm not saying he wouldn't want his little daugher taken care of, but it must not have been a huge priority to set her up financially if he didn't do what he should have. and by the way, i love heath, but that doesn't change the facts.

  42. 42

I think that's lovely. such wonderful people. Matilda is adorable.

  43. 43

This is nice to hear. I think this is what Heath would have wanted and if he could of foreseen the future he would of updated his will. RIP. I still miss you.

  44. 44

On second thought, ya, perez you have been wrong before and jumped the gun. I need to hear this from Michelle to believe it.

  45. nyx says – reply to this

Wow!!! That's amazing news and she deserved it!

  46. 46

    That is good to hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. 47

C'mon Perez….. this is old news. This was announced a few weeks after his death. Get with the now.

  48. 48

it breaks my heart to see this child. i have 2 daughter (7 and 1) whose father is no longer w/us, and let me promise you that all the $ in the world can't make michelle feel better about the fact that her child will never know her father and what he missed in her growing up.

  49. 49

Geez, that ledger family are a top notch bunch. Thats awesome that they did that.

  50. 50

Re: Cayman Gal – i couldn't agree more!

  51. amish says – reply to this

Sheesh — come on — how many people are you talking about? Six or seven? Doesn't sound right to exclude everyone. Unless they sucked!

  52. 52

  53. 53

It took 8 MONTHS for the Ledger family to decide this? Obviously, Heath would want his beloved daughter Matilda to have everything. So much to this story that we're not hearing, but it doesn't really matter if Matilda is given what she rightfully deserves.

Now Heath can - finally - and sadly, rest in peace.

  54. 54

I can hear my heart slowly defrosting

  55. 55

So glad Matilda inherits it all. She's a doll. A little clone of her daddy. I remember when Michelle got pregnant w/ Matilda thinking it was a way to keep Heath with her longer - little did I know… In Matilda, she will always be staring into his eyes…

  56. 56

Re: MizzJadeJacobs – FYI, Michelle doesn't need Matilda's inheritance. She comes from an extremely wealthy family in La Jolla, California (she went to my high school) and she's made several movies, with movie contracts yet to come, waiting in the wings, equaling more than Matilda's inheritance.

  57. 57

Re: amylynn – Amen to that.

  58. 58

yes but the pieces of shit life insurance company is refusing to pay .

  59. 59

Good for her! at least Heath's family did it..don't care it's a public stunt or not..hohoho

  60. 60

Is that little girl drinking Coffee?

  61. 61

awhh that seems so sweet! :D

  62. 62

Heath's family is such a good family. It's so sad to know that little Matilda will grow without her father, and with all the exposure she's going to have.
I hope she will grow without troubles. She looks so cute.

  63. 63

    It's about time..
RIP Heath, we all miss you ♥
