"Our Military Kids provides tangible support to the children of deployed and severely injured National Guard and Military Reserve personnel through grants for enrichment activities and tutoring that nurture and sustain the children during the time a parent is away in service to our country. OMK grants are made to honor the sacrifices military parents make and to ensure that the children have access to activities and support that help the children better cope with challenges arising during a parent's deployment or injury recovery."

I will support them - but WHERE IS OUR GOVERNMENT? Aren't they supposed to treat our soldiers and their families WELL??? Why do we continue to fail to give support to our military families as a COUNTRY?

I'm still donating, but people need to realize how UNpatriotic this Republican administration is. What a shame.

      Our military rocks,

      freedom.
      .
Too bad the world can't seem to understand
(or chooses) not to understand that.

My daughter stayed at a camp hosted by OMK while I was in Iraq, and she really enjoyed it. It was at a 4H camp, and they did a lot of swimming and rope climbing stuff. I'm so glad she got to do that. They host camps in different states every year to offer to more kids that way. It really upsets me that spouses of soldiers are given so much more than the children of soldiers. I have brought it up to my chain of command many times, so if there are any OMK staff reading this, thanks for what you do, and remind the army that not every soldier had a spouse, but many of them have kids who are not being supported. Ok I'm done now.

This is one cause I will not support.Defense forces are voluntary not drafted any more. Your troops are in illegal wars and I will not support those who go in by choice and free will.Their children's welfare is in this instance their problem.

As a spouse of a deployed Army National Guard member I fully support this! As much as people are against the wars and the reasons behind them, we all have to understand that soldiers are called out regardless and have to leave their families. Our 3 kiddos miss their daddy very much! Raising 3 kiddos alone isn't easy but, seeing that there are support groups out there that helps the kids adjust and just be kids…thats a BIG help!

Re: The Lala – I agree with you 100%…. As a military wife and mother to 3 under the age of 6. He has been deployed for a year and faces another year long deployment 3 months after he returns from this one! With all of the normal everyday life stuff then having a deployment thrown into the mix…it financially hurts….its sad when you have to candycoat to a 5 year old why they cant have the "new" things other kids in school have because the dollar cant cover the mortgage and the other basic bills. You hear and see on the news of the few that get support but, not to sound like a bitch here but, why am I working my ass off w/2 jobs, rushing to get the girls off the bus, being the stable mother my children need and having to worry if i have enough gas to get to the grocery store let alone fearing that everytime someone knocks at the door it will be bad news of my husband? hmmm…yet we continue to support these programs out of our hearts and wallets and i can give you almost 130 names of women/men that are facing financial difficulties that the government wont help….i support the cause and the thought behind it but have a hard time believing in it.
