Arnold Vetoes Kanye's Bill
This sucks!
Last November, Kanye West's mother, Donda West, died after a breast reduction and liposuction surgery gone wrong. The autopsy revealed health problems, such as cardiac artery blockage and high blood pressure.
A bill was written shortly after her death that is intended to prevent cosmetic surgery-related deaths.
However, the bill failed to pass due to several vetoes on Sunday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Reportedly, the reason for the Schwarzenegger's veto was that "this summer's historic, 85-day delay in passage of a state budget left him with time to enact only the highest-priority legislation for California."
The veto message, which he also applied to dozens of others, states "This bill does not meet that standard, and I cannot sign it at this time."
The governor has until midnight on Tuesday to sign or veto all of the almost 900 bills sent to him. If he doesn't act on them, then those bills become law.
The cosmetic surgery bill, AB 2968 by Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter, would have made it a requirement for people to undergo a physical examination, give a complete medical history, and also get a doctor's clearance before getting any plastic surgery done.
And in the Legislature it received an almost unanimous support.

It definitely isn't as important. You can't control life and how old you get. Eventually, most senior citizens will need to be cared for by one person or another. If you choose to have plastic surgery, you should have the common sense to get yourself checked out first. Plastic surgery is a CHOICE. Becoming a senior citizen is not.
Is this mean? Sorry, but I agree with Arnold. There are a million much more pressing bills that take years to get enacted. I don't think it would be fair to pass this thru as a PRIORITY just because it affected someone rich and famous.

Personal responsibility has no place in our society anymore! Plastic surgery is a completely voluntary procedure. If you are choosing to go under the knife, then it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that your doctor is credible and that you are medically sound for the procedure. The government does not need to hold your hand all the time folks!
I think it's a great bill. It's a shame they have to prioritize like that. I hope they continue to fight for it!

I honestley think if YOU are going to get plastic surgery than YOU should be smart enough to get a physical examination, give a complete medical history, and talk to your doctor about it first anyways, if YOU don't, than YOU should be responsible for the consequences. Plastic Surgery is not a mandatory procedure, it is something people do to help themselves in areas they are not confident, you would think that someone who is about to go through with something so risky would take all necessary procautions BEFORE going under the knife, there are MUCH more important things to worry about in this world than your saftey and well being when you decide to get a procedure to enhance you physically.. You don't need the procedure in the first place, when you do get it you should be responsible for everything surrounding it, from precautions to post-op consequence.

Breast reduction isn't a fun plastic surgery to get - you're not necessarily getting it because you want to but because you need it for health reasons.
cosmetic surgery?? ya because it is sooo important when we have issues that require more of our attention than this. make sure you choose a right doctor, do your homework, know that you mus be fit if youre going under the knife. common it is common sense now a days
THAT is freaking insane..i work for a doctor in Ontario and ALL surgery booked (cosmetic or non-cosmetic) MUST have a preop by your family doctor or you don't get surgery…ergo…you won't die!

Sorry but that should be a requirement for any prospective patient. This type of bill definitely should have been passed. And it would also protect doctors from malpractice and wrongful death suits.

To me, this bill is a no brainer. It should have been passed! It not only protects the patient but the doctor as well. Family members wouldn't be able to sue the doctors and hospitals because all the proper procedures and safety measures would have been followed. Our governor is sooooo stupid! Plus, what if the patient has something wrong with them that they didn't know about? This is a great way to make sure everybody is safe and lower cosmetic death rates. Fuck those money hungry cosmetic surgeons. I'm sure they are happy about this news!

Not all plastic surgery is a choice. Breast reduction, reconstrutive surgery - those are just two examples of cosmetic surgeries that are sometimes required. So many of you are evil fucks!
As much as i agreethat you should be healthy enough for plastic surgery.. It is cosmetic and you should be responsible for yourself.. You should get yourself checked out and make sure you're healthy even if your dr doesn't tell you to.
Any reputable doctor will REQUIRE you to get blood work and a medical clearance before you go under the knife. They sure as hell don't want you dying on the table, it goes on their record and makes them look bad, even if it wasn't their fault. Kanye's mom first went to another surgeon who wanted her to have her heart evaluated before he would do surgery on her. She decided to skip that and went with a doctor that didn't make her jump through hoops. I feel bad because she left behind a son that's in pain over his mom, but she was careless with her mortality.
It's not about personal responsibility as much as making sure that doctors are doing the things they need to do.

i live in Ny and had 2 surgeries on my arm and had to get clearance and take tests prior to the surgeries , and i am much younger and it was a much less risk procedure.

plastic surgery is a stupid thing to put yourself through in the first place. that aside, she was told not to do it by 2 or 3 other doctors and she did it anyway. there will always be someone there to do whatever you want as long as you have the money - look at michael jackson and the twins who took one arm from one twin and had it grafted onto the other. i'm glad this didn't pass, there are more important things arnold needs to worry about that making sure superficial assholes are healthy enough to have an elective procedure done. if a breast reduction is medically necessary, health insurance will help cover it. that's not a valid excuse. liposuction never is, stop eating and get off your ass and exercise.
