Bush Does Not Have The Support Of His Own Party - Neither Does McCain!

wenn5192581.jpg

More than two-thirds of Republicans voted AGAINST the Bush-backed Wall St. bailout package on Monday, effectively killing it.

What does that say about the President???

And what does this say about John McCain???

McCain was for the bailout and took it very seriously - even suspending campaigning last week to work on the package.

Interesting times we are in!

I'm almost offended by this post and the jab at Bush and McCain. Why doesn't Perez bring up Obama? Because Obama did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the crisis, phone calls accomplish nothing. The Obama camp said he would "probably" vote for the bailout, but he was never clear. If he supported it he would have gone to Washington and convinced those 95 Dems to change their vote. He had a speech prepared while campaigning today about how Congress had reached a deal, after finding out the bailout failed he quickly changed his speech, talk about "out of touch" with the economy. Obama's been talking an awful lot about accountability, yet he has been quiet about the crisis so that he doesn't have to be held accountable for what he does. I don't want a president who has a "call when you need me" attitude, nor one without conviction.

your wrong on this one mark….repubs don't want this one passing as it stands…..they want to put more options one the table, and not be forced into rushing. To avoid assuming that the first "solutions" will be the best thing, and for YOUR future, avoid turning this great nation into a mediocre welfare state.

    8. 208

Perez you seem so misinformed about politics my friend. I think it may ultimately be a mistake not to do this bailout thing, but it is a good thing in many other ways that people aren't taking any more lies and shit from the government. Bush basically blamed American people for the way the economy has gone. Why can't that cunt McCain put some of his millions back into the economy? Its because the super rich are seeking to profit off of this situation that's why, and they want to leave everyone else picking up the pieces.

The USA can never become the USSA, which was what this bill was leading too. What system/program has the US Government ever run, that did not completely fail? Not a single ONE!!! And no one could ever name one…. Because it has never happened… This was not the Republicans fault, blame Pelosi and Reid for this one! The Democrats could have passed it singlehandedly, and even they couldn't. Who know what happens next, or who's best in the election (still leaning McCain), but I'm glad it failed. I hope it fails again……….

Didn't Obama claim SUCCESS and his ever "much needed" help in this crisis a couple of days ago, and not McCain's?? YEPPER, Barry did, and it still failed with 94 Democrats voting against it! The Democrats kicked the Republicans out of the meetings for bringing up the "truth"up! They (the democrats) had the votes, and both Houses, and it still failed!!!!!!!! And where are all the stories about Obama's drug use, and Larry Sinclair and all, Oh yeah, Perez will never post them! Obama did drugs a few years back, gay sex, and yet all you people bring up is a DUI from 25 years ago! Drugs versus Cocaine…. What worse???

    13. 213

Oh please. It was Pelosi and her big fat mouth that killed the bailout. Stupid bitch.

Seriously I dont mean to reply to just you its just i want someone to read it and understand that not all republicanas represent the antichrist. what im merely trying to enlighten you on is that obama has not worried about his job as a senator since he got the candidacy so yeah what mccain might have did was a publicity stunt but honestly at least he was the one to say "hey i should probably actually do my job and go to the senate to vote on a bill that could prevent a new economic depression" btw check out why we are in this seemingly economic depression it started because of Clinton so honestly not just the republicans are at fault. sorry again for making you read this but honestly dont get mad, as a republican i truly am more moderate on my bleiefs

Current value of mortgages in the US: $12 trillion
Current 90 day late/default rate (all loan types, sub-prime/Alt-A, jumbo, prime): 4%
      Current exposure: $480 Billion
Hypothesis: 90 day late/default rate doubles.
      Hypothetical 90 day late/default: 8%
      Hypothetical exposure: $960 Billion
Hypothetical value of underlying Real Estate (based on worst-case as in CA Central Valley, Las Vegas, Florida): 60%
      Total exposure risk: $576 Billion.
That's it folks. If (worst case) defaults double and the underlying assets sell for only 60% of their original selling price, our total exposure is less than the "bailout" amount.
Now all the housing experts can flame away!

Bill Clinton is part of this current issue but nobody ever seems to blam him. Bush gets to take all the blame, and this housing issue that got us partially in this mess is a result of the Dems. Clinton even said in a recent interview the other day that he took responsibility for letting Freddie Mac and Frannie Mae get so out of hand. McCain was one of the few in the last few years who said this sub-prime mess would all blow up in our face and the Democratic congress ignored him and others. Obama just sat back and rolled in some money from Freddie Mac being in his back pocket.

hello who do you think is responsible for this whole bailout problem in the first place?
Perez do your research! There are 3 versions at least on you tube.. the democrats forced the banks to write subprime loans in the first place, and who do you think has been involved since the program started? Obama himself, its disgraceful ! if you are going to go the political route please at least show all sides, you want shocking? Show Obamas involvement in the sub prime lending mess, how he voted for, fought for these loans and even sued Citigroup for not writing "enough" sub prime (ie unqualified equal opportunity loans). funny, Citigroup and B of A are about the only banks left that are solvent. Ironic that Obama claimed to have "warned" of the sub prime debacle when he was right there pushing these loans and protecting the criminals lining thier pockets and his with the profits..

    23. 223

      Mr. Perez,

Darling, Democrats have the majority in the House with 235 members. If they had 24 more democratic votes and it may have passed. 95 Democrats said "No” and 133 Republicans said "No" Hooray for Capitalism! The people who overwhelmingly (almost 100 to 1) are against this bill have spoken. A VICTORY for Capitalism, Democracy, and Freedom.

McCain/Obama/and Bush Fail. They all voted against the people's will. Stick to the shallow end sweet pea…once again…you’re trying to swim in the deep end with the big boys, and are drowning in biased journalism.

The government needs to bailout of bailouts. Face it America. We need a recession so that we can get an idea of just what our homes and assets are really worth. We have the Communioty Reinvestment Act and the Federal Reserve's manipulation of interest rates to thank for this. Not to mention, pols of the Republicrat persuasion taking much money from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Americans also need to save more, spend less and just plain live more within our means.

      Ron Paul was right!

    25. 225

I bet about 80 % of my rather well-to-do German friends and colleagues do NOT have any credit cards! We pay CASH! And if we can t afford anything, we WAIT until we ve saved engough to buy it!
We do not live ON CREDIT so much in Europe as Americans seem to do!
I think this is ONE of the many things that s gone completely out of control and lead to personal and economic desaster in the USA: Living and consuming EVERTHING ON CREIT!
Well, NOW you - and the world - have to PAY! Re: Bavaria

Agreed. Americans have been living beyond their means and are addicted to credit. But the Federal Reserve manipulating interest rates and bad laws like the Community Reinvestment Act and Sarbanes Oxley have contributed to this problem as well. There is enough blame to go around.

Why didn't you mention the FORTY PERCENT of democrats that voted against it??? Btw, the only reason 2/3 of the Republicans voted against it (not that I think they're right at all) is because Pelosi gave her friggin' bi-partisan speech. Would've have much more support if not for her.

    32. 232

It was the American people that stopped this. Millions of people like myself went online and emailed or phoned our Congressional leaders and told them to stop this thing. Now, we can go around and around on where the blame lies, it doesn't change anything. There is no guarantee this bailout will work. I personally think the only way to get out of this is to let the markets correct themselves. That's not going to happen. Washington will step in and throw $$ at it because everyone on Capitol Hill is loosing millions of dollars - vanishing before their eyes. They have all the incentive they need to get it worked out. I've made more money in the last four years (with Bush in office) than I've ever made before, I've worked hard and I pay my mortgage. The problem was Clinton and the Dems pushing through these programs giving loans to people who they knew couldn't pay their mortgages. That is NOT GEORGE BUSH'S fault. Obama is not the answer and he's really bad for small business and that affects most of us. Every Democrat who has ever run has played class warfare and said they were going to take from the rich and give to the poor…only problem is it's the RICH who employ the poor. TAX the rich that he's referring to and you are really just hurting small business and forcing them to lay people off. NOBAMA!!!!!!

"While John McCain and his aides have railed against the "liberal mainstream media" in recent weeks, some of the MOST SEARING ATTACKS against the Republican presidential nominee have come from CONSERVATIVE (REPUBLICAN) intellectuals.
      -
George F. Will, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, argued that such impulsiveness sows doubts about McCain's ability to apply "calm reflection and clear principles" to important decisions. He ended his broadside by all but declaring McCain unfit for the Oval Office

Who out there thinks - that after 8 years of Bush politics - non-government involvement - which is the hue and cry of all republicans — you want more of this?
      -
Who here is still inane enough to try to blame the "big government liberals" with this problem? It was LACK of supervision across the board that has resulted in this.
      -
Every single person in the US is worse off due to the political platform of the past 8 years - each and every one of you — this situation will not go away overnight - it will be years.

Re: LULU~* – Lulu, Lulu, Lulu. You don't get it because you are wrong as usual.

What brought us to this pass is NOT a lack of regulation; it was OVER regulation in the form of coercing banks to make subprime loans to unqualifed buyers. Plain and simple.

The government RUINS whatever it gets involved in.

I think I speak for most conservatives when I say we are just as puzzled by you guys not grasping that fact.

And I'm not saying all liberals are corrupt and all conservatives are saints by any means… but I will say it is the Republicans who tried to get a REFORM bill for the Fannies passed a few years back but it was blocked by the Dems.

When Republicans, who are ideologically against reform say reform is needed or the taxpayer is at risk, don't you think the Democrats should have listened?

Re: Smirks – I agree. That is - without doubt - part of the issue.

    61. 261

Re: Smirks – Sorry - hit enter too soon - Yes, the banks did lend subprime - but I take exception with coerced.
      -
Also, I wish the "need" for government involvement weren't there - I truly do. I work and live in Washington DC, and believe me, there's a reason for the phrase "good enough for Government work" — meaning, the government employement is associated with ineptness, laziness, and mis-management of funds.
      -
But, I feel the blatant croynism of the Republican party - which I don't really think anyone knows the true depth of, tacked onto the greed we are seeing with un-regulated commerce — means regoulation - GOOD regulation - is unfortunately needed.
      -
Believe me, I wish it weren't - but I believe there do need to be well-thought out controls in place to cover the assets of the average man.
      -

    62. 262

Re: Smirks – but Smirks - that regulation was supposed to be only "consideration given" to the poor areas so they to could improve - it was not supposed to be "make the transaction (banks re mortgages), take the money and run.
      -
There needed to be stricter guidelines - and while we've all known about this housing crisis - yet, I don't see that anything was done to stop this train in its tracks.
      -
Nor, do I EVER feel like bailing out people who bought houses they couldn't afford — but I know that when I bought last fall, I "qualified" for an absurdly high amount - what I bought was about half the price of what the bank "said I could."
      -
To me, this was predatory - but I feel the predators who've escaped all notice all the mortgage bankers - and in some cases, the real estate agents.
      -
I was lied to by both my mortage banker - and my real estate agent - but what do they care? The moment I signed the documents, they get their money and they are off the hook.
      -
I went to sue - and I was number 342 in line to sue the mortgage banking company.
      -
Yes, I want better regulation. I don't like it, and the only reason I haven't gone belly up is my home buy was conservative to begin with.
      -
So long as the nefarious lenders and their agents, the mortgage bankers are out there - providing - at least in my case - false information - there need to be rules for commerce.

Re: LULU~* – For once we agree. Except I wouldn't use the cronyism label just for Republicans. Dems are just as bad. All politicians manipulate government for their benefit and the benefit of their friends. The real losers are the "people" - you and me.

Don't you wish we could start from scratch sometimes? Have a do-over? Too bad there's no real choice in the two-party system.

      And the Democrat's vote?

**sigh** Perez- you should stick with what you know - Celebrity Gossip.
