The negative buzz continues to build for the new Shrek musical!

After an out-of-town run in Seattle before its Broadway debut in November, the show is making some big tweaks.

A new actor is coming in to replace the current "Donkey" and other substantial changes are being made.

We're also hearing that a "show doctor" has been brought in to "save the production."

Sounds like a hot mess!

They should make the "Destruction of our Nation" a musical and have the lead characters all Democrats lol :) Just kidding, all Republicans… No, both parties because a two-party system sucks!

  24. 24

How about " Barrack the masturbating monkey" the musical!

  25. 25

Time to move this piece of shit production to Universal Studios, where it belongs, and play it for free. Maybe they could sell a few more tickets to their crap themeparks and at least break even.

Universal Studios sucks . Shrek sucks. It's a match made in heaven.

By the way, I just got a call to work on Shrek 4. I'm dead serious. Shrek 4. After the mess that was Shrek 3 (and in my opinion all Shrek movies) I'm actually having to consider working on this pile of crap because scheduling-wise it's the only project available during the time I need to get back to work and they need people like me really bad and are offering good $$$. Can you believe it? I'm actually considering turning it down and going on unemployment instead, maybe reducing to a "Ramen-noodle-only" diet.

  26. 26

WELL maybe they should stop putting BULLSHIT shows on Broadway and producers should back musicals that require true talent instead of PURE CRAP that appeals to retarted tourists.
BROADWAY HAS GONE TO SHIT BECAUSE OF PRODUCERS. BRAVO, DOUCHEBAGS.

    Re: H8PerezLuvComments
I actually got called in to audition for Shrek–on bway. I opted for shooting myself in the face instead.

  28. 28

or, "You're Damn Broke, that's funny cuz I'm not - Love, Obama and McCain" the musical :)

  29. 29

It wasn't a hot mess. The music was pretty good, not quite up to the level of Wicked but good. I agree with replacing donkey with more of a character actor. Some of the scenes between donkey and Shrek were very stilted. "Redefining" the dragon role is also a great idea. It was just odd how it started out as the huge dragon then she became human, having random songs. I "got" the idea - it just didn't work. They should have left out the huge dragon and just had her be this big, scary guardian or in more of a dragon costume.
It's worth saving, it will be more worth saving. Give it a chance.

    Re: harrybalsac
now, for that, i'd pay the 116.50 and NOT give it to katie

  31. 31

Shrek isn't funny anymore. Did you SEE Shrek the third? It was TERRIBLE!

  32. 32

UGH!Stupid seattle! Gosh, they try to make us look good, but instead they make us look stupid! I life(sp?) in seattle, so it's a big dissapointment. They even have a commericial for Shrek the Musical, and they say mooseical, basically, it's stupid, I don't get it at all.

  33. 33

I saw the Seattle production and agree with needing to add more of a character actor for the Donkey. I also agree that some reworking needs to happen - especially in the first act. The second act was pretty tight - the first act was about 2 songs too long and the story, itself, needed to tighten up. The performances, however, were pretty great!!

  34. 34

and that is why shows start off broadway or totally out of new york-to tweak things and to get press. They got both.

  35. 35

I saw it, in Seattle, in its final weekend and actually thought it was pretty good. It was a lot of fun but I think they could have definitely done something different with the dragon. I liked the guy they had playing donkey but could see how somenoe else might make it a little more fun. The Shrek character is great adn there are a lot of fun twists in the story. I hope it does well.

  36. 36

y do they have 2 ruin yet another disney movie!!!!! who the fuck would want 2 see this considerin its aimed at children!! i know 4 sure that i would not pay that amount of money for my children 2 see that shit all i have 2 do is buy all the fuckin dvds which wouldn't even amount to the price of one seat & sit back watch them be babysat 4 hours!!!! hahahahahaha!!!!!!

  37. 37

the "show doctor" is Tony Award Winner rob ashford. he is BRILLIANT! not that the artistic team which was headed by jason moore (director of Tony Award Winning "AVE Q") wasn't any good, they just need some outside eyes. that is why shows preview outside on new york.

  38. 38

Re: jackers – shrek is dreamworks, not disney. disney has little mermaid, lion king, and mary poppins on broadway right now. lion king grosses over a million dollars a week.

  39. 39

    this is a bad idea.

  40. 40

What does the term "replacing the current Donkey" mean? Is this theater lingo?

  41. 41

The funny thing is that Shrek has gotten pretty good reviews out of town. So to say that the production has received bad reviews across the board is simply wrong. The production has been better received than Wicked was out of town, by far. Many shows replace actors who simply don't fit. Out of town tryouts are a way to work out the kinks. True they got rid of two actors in the show, but many shows do that out of town before they open on broadway. The out of town tryout in Wicked was replaced before opening on Broadway and look where it is today. I predict that this show will be a success.

  42. 42

No, no, no, no, NO! The films are so good, why curse them by making a god awful musical? I mean, even if it was 'good' - Shrek as a MUSICAL? The IDEA is a pile of pants!

  43. 43

    oh gosh
