Criss Angel Speaks (By Proxy)

| Filed under: Sin CityCriss Angel

In response to claims that his new Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas was a big piece of poo, Criss Angel's publicist just reached out to us and sent the following email:

"Wanted to introduce myself to you as Criss Angel's PR rep.

Saw your pickup of the Doug Elfman article on Believe, Criss' show with Cirque du Soleil. As you may imagine I take issue with the majority of it.

There were 1500 hundred people there for each show on Friday and Saturday night. The show received standing ovations both nights and was well received all the way through.

After Saturday's show Criss invited the entire audience to stay so he could personally thank each and every one of them. Over 700 people waited and Criss did as he promised, staying for more than a few hours to do so. If you were a paying audience member that was dissatisfied, would you have stayed to meet him?

Just because the reporter chose not to find anyone that said anything positive, or rather did and didn't use quotes from them, is no true indication of the direction that the show is headed.

I do want to thank you for mentioning the preview period, because that was a key element that went lacking in the story. The show will be more than ready by Halloween night. I'd like to invite you personally to come see it, meet Criss and judge for yourself.

I know that Criss has taken his shots in the press, some justifiably, but this was an unfair way to talk about the first two performances of what is a ten year run in Las Vegas. Is the show completely ready? No and that is what the preview period is all about.

I do appreciate your time and am serious about the invite to see it for yourself. Thanks."

We definitely plan on seeing it.

We love all the Cirque show!

He looks like Charles Manson. That publicist is doing his or her job and deserves a raise.

  25. 25

Criss Angel fans would stay and talk to him regardless of the suckage!! I think the fact that people wanted to talk to him means nothing. And as someone in the entertainment business I can say that a standing Ovation means shit too…I have seen people stand for total crap!! I have seen people stand for the worst shows I have ever seen in my life. I think it has gotten to a place where people feel like they have to, that people will be offended if they do not!
It probably does suck and hopefully Perez will go and tell us all!

  26. 26

700 out of 1500 is 46% - that sounds "dissatisfying". If I was in PR, I wouldn't be throwing around numbers that aren't favourable …

  27. 27

My god he is NOT good looking, uck

  28. 28

    Could he look anymore BLOWN???

  29. 29

why does he feel the need to defend himself for someone like gayez?? the show must really s@ck!

Thats a nice letter to Perezzers. Hopefully it really is his rep, and the invite is legit. It would be nice to see what it is really like from one of our own :)

Perez, you lucky bastard. I am going to start my own blog so I can get free stuff.

  41. 41

Yea, yea, yea. I heard he even pulls a rabbit out of a hat, his show is so bad.

  42. 42

Separated at Birth: Angel and Chewbaca

  43. 43

He seriously looks like a werewolf! Not cute at all. I almost would prefer Hefner.

  44. 44

Ugh, they need to scrape his fucking mug off the side of the Luxor hotel…just came back from Vegas, nothing worse than seeing him on that beautiful hotel.

  45. 45

Re: Ms. McGillicutty – LOL So true.

  46. 46

Well said! There are more Loyals than haters, that's for sure! I guess the haters can't afford tickets!!!! I will definitely be there!!!!

    Loyal Forever!!!!!

  47. 47

He's fucked up in this picture. Period.

  48. 48

The show was merely OK. Very boring for long stretches, you could EASILY see how the illusions were done, and the audience was genuinely disinterested. The reporter was also correct in that many people left the theater early, and there were a lot of vacant seats by the time the house lights came on.

The show needs a LOT of work to carry the Cirque du Soleil name, and if it opens the way it currently is, It will be closed in a very short period of time. After enough bad reviews, people will go to better shows here, at a lower price point.

  49. 49

his show was booed when i saw it.
half empty, was a sad spectacle.
    whats he on????

Of course 700 out of 1,500 people stayed around to meet Criss. They were all his loyal fans who traveled across the country to see his show, so meeting him face to face was a bonus. I have seen the show two times already, and have spoke to many outside the showroom after the show. EVERYONE (including loyals) agree the show is bad and needs a lot of work. Criss is flat, tripping over his props, and lacks personality. It becomes clear he is a TV star and not a live performing star. The main point of the Review Journal article is not only were the non-Angel fans walking out of the show, so were the loyal fans. Criss is a TV magician who capitalizes on camera tricks, editing and planned camera angles to accomplish his tricks. Now that he has to perform live, you can see right through his tricks, and realize how boring his personality really is. Bottom line: I have heard that management would love to walk away from the project, but Cirque and the Luxor have too much money tied up in the production to scrap it this early on. Unless it takes a major turn for the better, I give it a year. The contract Criss has outlines how the deal is structured "IF" it lasts the entire 10 year run. But all Vegas contract have an "OUT: clause allowing cancellation before expiration. I am sure Criss has a clause keeping him there working for at least one year before they can cancel.

  52. 52

I havent seen the show. But i know in my opinion its going to be great. Im only 12, but im a Ultimate Loyal Freak on his site. His facial hair is gone, and even with it. It was always Criss underneath, and it always will be. Criss really is my idol. I for one cant wait to see the live show.
    ~ Cha

  53. 53

Haha, just seeing Criss live, no matter how terrible, is going to complete me. I cant wait to go!!!! (if my parents let us!!!)

  54. 54

    Perez; everyone loves you :]

  55. 55

How does Cirque and the Luxor, who invested $85 million in the show get out of this mess? Do they cut their loss early on, and scrap the entire project or do they stick it out and run up the bill for their loss.

They should cut Criss's pay until he starts to turn a profit, and start to charge him rent for the room at the Luxor.

I wouldn't be surprised if A & E finally realizes Angel is nothing more then a "camera edit" magician who is hated by many, and cancel his TV show as well.

  56. 56

BTW: If you are interested in seeing the show. go to Craig's List and search Criss Angel. Seems everyone is jumping ship and selling their tickets before the show closes.
