Doing their best to avoid the child star pigeon-holed crash-and-burn fate, the Potter kids have been busy working unexpected roles.

Most notably, DanRad took all his clothes off for Equus on Broadway, while his Potter pal, Rupert Grint, has chosen to portray violent characters in little independent films.

He just began work on Wild Target and just wrapped Cherrybomb.

In Cherrybomb our sweet redhead works at a "leisure center" which is "not really a proper job."

Sounds lurid!

He falls for his boss' daughter, an "exotic, fashionable" girl, and engages in a competition with his friend to commit the biggest stunt to win her attention. Without giving too much away, Grint's character goes so far as to stealing a car…and more.

That brooding picture of him above is from that film.

The film also includes the most adult love scene he's ever had to portray. He recounts the experience as "awkward" especially with the "whole crew watching."

You can bet the theater will be packed with fangirls who will probably be more than a little shocked at the film's ending, which Rupert describes as "really violent and out of hand and lethal."

Intriguing!

Even though the indie production schedule was a little more rigorous than what Grint's accustomed to, he says he is glad for the opportunity to play against his Harry Potter scaredy cat.

"I’m playing such a cool, different character that I’ve never done before. It’s nice to get to act like you’re more confident, even for a little bit.”

Let's hope it doesn't tarnish his Harry Potter appeal!
