Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling tops the list as the most profitable author, taking in $300 million between July 1 2007 and June 30 2008. She is also one of only three women on the list that includes award-winning mystery writer James Patterson with $50 million, books-that-make-good-movies author Stephen King with $45 million, Tom Clancy with $35 million and Danielle Steele with $30 million.
Courtroom thriller writer John Grisham and paranormal thriller writer Dean Koontz each made $25 million. Ken Follet made $20 million, romance writer Janet Evanovich made $17 million, and Nicholas Sparks comes in at number 10 with $16 million.
J.K. puts everyone else to shame!

Janet Evanovich is a actually a mystery writer, not a romance writer. There is often a lot of detail about the relationships between the main characters in her books, but it is not the main topic of the stories. The Stephanie Plum books are a hilarious, enjoyable read and I would recommend them to anyone. So, imho, Evanovich deserves every penny of that 17 million. I'm really surprised not to see Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb on that list. I thought she was the wealthiest female author, after Rowlings, and she is very prolific. She has way more older novels in bookstores to bring royalties in, too. Huh.
I just raed somewhere else she earns 4 million dollar a week!!!.That`s more than all the wealthy folks in the top ten richest people in the world.Not bad for a woman that used to live on foodstamps, and she managed to stay grounded and donates a lot.4 million a week,every week of the year ….
