Who Won the VP Debate?
Overall, it was a good night for both Veep candidates!
Sarah Palin didn't completely eff up and showed us she had some brain cells, post the Katie Couric bafoonary.
Joe Biden didn't go postal and suffer oopsy diarrhea mouth as some political pundits expected.
But, two polls, one conducted by CNN, the other by CBS, declared Joe from Scranton, PA the winner.
In a CNN poll of 611 who watched the debate, sampling error of 4 points, 51% gave the debate to Biden, 36% to the gov from Alaska.
CBS and Knowledge Networks surveyed a 'nationally representative poll' of 473 uncommitted voters to get their immediate reaction to the Veep debates.
Immediate is good cuz that means no talking head or pundit influence, right? Sounds like a gut check to us!
Who won the debate? Biden won the CBS poll with 46% of the vote. Sarah nabbed 21%, but 33% said it was a tie.
Good news for low expectations Sarah.
Overall, her image improved according to CBS's surveyed people.
55% have a better opinion of Palin. 14% say they have a worse opinion and 30 % said their opinion hasn't changed.
Joe also improved his image in the CBS poll. 53% have a better impression of Joe. A far lower percentage than Sarah's average said they have a worse opinion of the Delaware senator at 5%, while 42% said they debate did not change their opinion.
On an interesting note, CBS also asked survey participants to rate the Veep candidates on their knowledge of important issues before AND after the debate.
For the gov, 43% said she was knowledgeable before the debate. After, 66% said she was knowledgeable. Not too shabby.
As for Joe, pre-debate 79% of CBS's people said he was knowledgeable. After the debate? 98% said he was knowledgeable.

The bar was set so low by the media for Palin, how could she not meet it, and improve her image?
Well as we all perfectly know the TV media has a tremendous liberal bias so let's not read too much into this. I mean CNN is the Clinton News Network. Wouldn't have been better to see Her Royal Thighness - Madame DeFarge Hilary Roddam up there rather than old Biden. Although you can't beat ole Biden asking a guy in a wheel chair to stand up. That is priceless stuff.

It would have been more interesting to have a Palin Obama debate as they are closer in experience to one another.
Biden clearly won! Sarah was there to make jokes and try to convinve the Merican people she was one of us. She came across like a cartoon character! She is an embarrassment to women with brains!

Biden won the debate. I went in not liking Palin's policies or beliefs or party but left the debate disliking HER. She was accusatory, disrespectful, ignorant, refused to answer questions, attacked him personally, accused him of siding with barack because he was added to the ticket - baseless shit because she didn't know how to answer the questions.
When Biden said "Just because I'm a man, doesn't mean I don't feel". I thought, who do I choose? A man who feels, or a woman who is a self proclaimed "pit bull?"

i think that they both had high points and low points, but based overall, the winner was biden for me. he was measured, articulate, specific, and succinct. palin, when she knew the answer to a question, spoke like an articulate woman from wasilla, AK. when she didn't, she slipped into borderline buffoonery that wasn't "joe six-pack" but a really bad impression of a souther stereotype. furthermore, her lack of formality, for me, was not only disingenuous, but also inappropriate. a debate is not the time for winks, smirks, or shout-outs; however, if this was 2000, or even 2004, i feel that the tricks would have gone over much better. right now, though, there is just too much going on in america and the world to rest on personality alone. she didn't fall flat on her face, but she didn't make me respect her or her positions either. i also felt her flat-out refusal to answer the questions answered was really, really disrespectful b/c it made the debate about her giving a series of speeches, NOT telling the american people what we need to hear from her. I wasn't impressed by her performance in the debate tonight. Somehow she seemed to ignore the questions all together, and with every answer she would turn it into a debate on taxes and Iraq.
I think she was incoherent on most of what she said. It is so obvious that she doesn't read a lot. She repeats things she's said before even when it isn't relevant to the question that was asked. It is obvious that what she said wasn't a part of her actual knowledge, it sounded too rehearsed.

Joe Biden definitely won the debate with his extensive knowledge of foreign and domestic policy. Sarah Palin showed that she can memorize facts and figures and repeat them like a robot. Oh, and she can read from notes too. She can also get real folksy and charming to try to fill in the blanks in hopes that no one will notice that she doesn't know the answer. She's really good at looking sincerely into the camera and assuring me that she's just like me, even though she doesn' know me. Well, surprisingly that doesn't reassure me at all. I want someone who actually knows MORE than I do about foreign and domesic affairs as Vice President!! I DON'T want a friggin' six pack/hockey mom running this country. Her lack of real knowledge was painfully apparent last night as she constantly deflected questions and reverted back to her stand on energy. All this is not say by me or you, it's said by the key factor that will decide this election. uncommitted voters who were openly to hear what both VP candidates had to say.

Sarah actually won because Joe was lying horribly by omission. I don't think McCain's policies are the best, but Joe lied about a lot of McCain's voting record by leaving out why he voted. Joe doen't have a good track record with foreign policy although he would like you to believe that he does. And Sarah DID get him on the fact that he said Obama was not ready to lead and that he disagreed with Obama on a lot of issues.. He is his own best fan. That is for sure. i will give him this though, he didn't spew his usual Biden gaffes that he is being known for.
I don't know why people just can't give them both props, instead of making this a he won-she won argument. They both did a good job, and you can point out all the negatives and positives of each of them all day long, the fact is they were a lot more personable than the actual Presidential candidates. Neither of them played into the stereotypes that was expected of them. They were gracious to each other at the start, and even though they threw a few jabs at each other, they weren't condescending toward each other. They even thanked and greeted each other after the debate. Obama and McCain, by contrast, looked like they hated each other, one would hardly look at the other, and there was no warmth or personality among either one of them. The most scary part about the whole VP debate was there were times I thought to myself, "why can't it be these two running for President?" Yikes.

What is wrong with the people of America?!?!?!!? If you actually watched it and saw the reporting after the debates pretty much ALL the reporters, journalists, anchors etc said Palin clearly won. So people who cover politics all day long say Palin won but people who just watch to see if she fucks up say Biden won!?!?!? I'm confused. Either that or biased Perez is pulling only data which supports his views….based off of history I'd say the second one is probably most fitting.
