Peanut Butter Attack!

H.S. student charged with assault on severely allergic classmate

-A Washington man is facing an assault charge for allegedly smearing peanut butter on the forehead of a fellow student who is severely allergic to peanuts. Joshua Hickson, 19, slathered on the peanut butter after he learned of the victim's allergy while both were at lunch last month in Wenatchee High School. According to a Wenatchee Police Department report, a copy of which you'll find below, Hickson took a peanut butter and jelly sandwich from another student and twice "wiped some of the inside contents" on the forehead of the victim, who did not suffer an allergic reaction as a result of the September 8 incident. When interviewed by police, Hickson admitted smearing the peanut butter on his classmate, but "claimed that he didn't think anything would happen." As first reported by the Wenatchee World, Officer Steve Evitt noted in his report that the "incident turned out to be fairly innocuous, but could have been fatal." If convicted of the misdemeanor charge Hickson faces a maximum of one year in jail and a $5000 fine.

Perez, I am very upset that you would treat this as something humorous or "hardcore." Peanut/Food Allergies are very serious. Hundreds of people DIE each year due to reactions. I for one am severely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and if I did come into contact with either, could die due to anyphalactic shock. This is not a matter to be taken lightly. Instead of using it as hardcore news, why don't you take the chance to educate people of the severity of food

I for one am severely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and if I did come into contact with either, could die due to anaphylactic shock. This is not a matter to be taken lightly. Instead of using it as hardcore news, why don't you take the chance to educate people of the severity of food allergies and increase the awareness. This is the perfect example of the ignorance of this quite serious medical condition that limits thousands of people's lives (including my own). How would you feel if you constantly had to live in fear of eating something and DYING within 2 minutes, not even the time it takes for an ambulance to arrive. Not eating out, reading the ingredients of everything, etc. It is a serious matter that the American public does not understand. Go to www.foodallergy.org if you wish to learn more.

    18. 18

I dont know where you guys went to school, but 19 as a senior is not a huge deal. (as long as he is a SENIOR that is) I graduated at age 18 but I was a birthday right before the kindergarten cut off. Kids that didnt make that cut off started school the next year, at age 6 instead of 5, therefore graduating at 19 instead of 18. NOT the hugedeal your making it to be.

    19. 19

Um. Screwed up in so many ways.

    20. 20

Re: ballerina_91 – ugh, perez wasn't making fun of it you whiny whiny person. yes, i feel sorry for you and your allergies, i am a cook in a restaurant and i know how cautious people with allergies have to be…that sucks. but pull the fuckin stick out of your ass and stop being so hypersensitive to shit that perez posts. obviously he's posting it so people realize what a dumbass that stupid guy is, not to make fun of the victim. gawd, get aoff your indignant pedestal.

    21. 21

Hahaha pwnedddddd, definitely sounds like something that would happen at my high school

    22. 22

    24. 24

What an idiot. Does he not know that penut allergies can be deadly.
Peanut butter is banned in a lot of school in Australia to protect people with allergies.

    25. 25

what a dumbass! he "didnt think anything would happen"?!?!

CLEARLY a stupid shit if he's 19 and still in high school

    26. 26

      Re: stfuwhiners

I wasn't asking for pity or even the understanding of anyone of the subject. By your response and the responses of others my point is made. People are very uneducated about a deadly matter. If this was a post regarding cancer, there is no way in hell you tell a person with cancer to stop whining. Well guess what. To me, living my life with restrictions and having that looming though of dying within minutes due to even the smallest amount of nuts, well that is cancer to me. So please, unless you are living with food allergies, or even have the smallest understadning of the severity of the matter, don't EVEN tell me to stop "whining." Grow up.

    27. 27

      Who cares. I hate children.

    28. 28

whoa, battery with peanut butter.Think the guy could've been a little more creative! Well at least the guy who got "assaulted" got a face massage WITH peanut butter

    29. 29

      Re: stfuwhiners

Oh, and it wasn't Perez the really ticked me off. It was the title of the article. Does "PEANUT BUTTER ATTACK!" not sound the least bit mocking to you? And I have actually been close to this situtation when someone, like you who doesn't really seem to care, waved a peanut butter sandwhich right in front of my face because they didn't think it was serious or real. So yes, it is personal to me and tons of other people.

    30. 30

Whoa one year in jail and all this because of some peanut butter! This is what happens when no one was here to guide this poor unfortunate soul who's also an IDIOT!!! If he wanted to give the guy a face massage with some food he should've tried jelly! RETARD

    31. 31

Re: ballerina_91 – omg dude you act like your going to fucking die because of some article, are you serious you got offended by the title?! your WAAAAAAAAAAY dumb and dramatic. and you are asking for pity because i think a majority of people know what happens to people who have peanut allergies, you dont need to tell us your pity story

    32. 32

the guy was clearly influenced by shows like jackass and bam and wildboyz and watever…. they arent funny anymore they just do stupid shit like fart on each other or shave each others heads… just trying to look cool and spontaneous like one of those dickheads off mtv… well thats wat you get ya douche!

    33. 33

      Re: ballerina_91

First of all…if you notice, the title is in quotes. That means it came from a newspaper or an article he read online. Unless he wants to be charged with plagiarism he has to put that in there. No one is calling a severe allergy stupid. He is merely reporting what has already been on the internet that he feels his fans would find interesting.

Re: ballerina_91 – I'm part of those "tons of other people" that it's personal to - re: 9 year old daughter. Just stop responding to those people on here that don't get it. And it's not just the life threatening thing that's hard to deal with. It's also the emotional stuff.

My daughter went on a school sponsored camp-out just last night. They had snacks provided (we didn't know they were providing snacks). While all my daughter's friends were sitting around making smores and stuff, she had to sit there without because she knows what could happen. This happens at birthday parties and lots of other things too. She does trick-or-treat, but she just gives everything away, because that's a lot of reading - it's not worth it especially since a lot of stuff is manufactured where peanuts may have been. Or how about going to dinner at the same place you've eaten a hundred times, but you have to ask each time (and ask to see PROOF) whether they use peanut oil since they could change without notice. The list goes on…

ballerina_91, you know what I'm talking about. I assure you you're not alone.

    35. 35

      that's horrible…
      19 and in high school?
      well that tells us something.

    36. 36

    38. 38

      big fuckin deal…he's not dead…

    39. 39

Its ok to make fun of obese babies, rape, drug addiction, murder, chopping off people's dicks and forcing yourself to publicly miscarry babies as a statement of art, but suddenly a snarky comment on FOOD ALLERGY has just gone TOO far. Please, get over yourself.

    40. 40

    43. 43

      Re: Liss Honestly
Just gotta reply, I assume the "forcing yourself to publicly miscarry babies as a statement of art" is in reference to the Yale student who claimed that she forcibly caused herself to miscarry as an art project. That was a hoax.

    44. 44

Re: ballerina_91 – God, people like you are the reason this country has become so annoying politically correct. OMG- the title of the article offends you? Are you kidding me? As the other posters, I am sorry you have peanut allergies, it sucks. It must be crappy to have to live with something like that since peanuts are friggin everywhere now…but come on, lay off, get a sense of humor. Don't take everyting like it was intentionally aimed to make you have a bad day. If this is REALLY bothering you….maybe you should broaden your horizons and see the other things that are going on in the world that are WORTH getting this upset about. Just a thought.

    45. 45

ohh thats pretty low to do to someone

    46. 46

the stupid idiot, who will be probably 20!! when he graduates high school, if he can, should have been charged with attempted murder. he is lucky that the kid's allergy wasn't severe. he did not know what would happen and at the very least he should have ”moron” tattooed on his forehead.

      it's just peanut butter..

    51. 51

Re: ballerina_91 – Chill buddy. Perez wasn't saying it in a way that was meant to be taken lightly. The funny part was the idiot who actually would do something incredibly stupid like that. He's nineteen and still in highschool.. not surprised.. plus + he's American.. What do you expect?

    52. 52

Re: lolkat – I am aware of that, but if memory serves there was a big stink about it until they officially admitted that that was all it was- plenty of time for people to type long winded, hilariously dramatic paragraphs denouncing it- kind of like peanut butter.

    53. 53

omg that's so cruel. allergies are something to be taken seriously, especially if they are deadly. so not cool.

Oh, FFS! ALL kids and young adults (at one time or another), do things that aren't wise and can be life-threatening, to another person. THIS particular kid spread peanut butter on anothers' forehead (NOT forced him to ingest it!)…and, NOTHING happened to the kid!
Kids get slammed (almost, to death) during sports, made to do unspeakable things during hazings (which I do NOT condone, BTW), and let's not forget 'bus-skitching', dares, and experimental drug use. NOTHING happens to those who initiate these acts…unless it results in bodily harm. WHY should this kid be any different??

      57

Ballerina_91…you DO realize that a persons tolerance, and their allergies, can change every 7 years, right? Your peanut allergy does NOT have to mean a life sentence.
You have created SUCH a stink, concerning this topic. It reminded me of the episode on "All In The Family'…where Gloria was adamant about the fact that she couldn't eat lima beans. She swore up and down that she would swell up and get hives…until Mike, and her own mother, bet her that she wouldn't….and, she ate one. Guess what happened? Yep, nothing.

    58. 58

      whats with the monkey????
      daeth by peanutbutter!!!!

    59. 59

      Re: SoCar

I feel bad for your child, I have a 9 yr old too. I'm not sure where you live but here in Canada penut butter is banned from school lunch rooms allong with fish and other stuff that causes anafalaxis (sp?) Because of this I have to be pretty careful about what I send for lunch but there are a lot of companies that are starting to make lunch snacks and candy on machines that don't come into contact with penuts. Plus they have a nice little picture with a penut crossed out, hopefully your child will be able to keep some halloween treats this year!

    60. 60

GOOD! my sister is deathly allergic to peanuts and she could get SERIOUSLY sick from that.

    61. 61

Re: ballerina_91 – oh fuck off you self righteous cunt. i told you that i treat such matters seriously. as i said before (and you obviously glossed over because you only see what you want to see) i work as a cook in a restaurant and i take great pains to ensure that people with allergies are not exposed to certain things that could harm them. i make sure to cook with different utensils and pots and pans and only use dishes that i know are safe for such individuals. you think that everybody who doesn't walk around with a serious stern look on their face bowing down to you and paying homage to you doesn't take you seriously. why don't you get a giant neon sandwich board sign that you can wear around your neck all the time that proclaims "I'M FUCKING ALLERGIC TO NUTS!!!!!!!!!!! ANYBODY WHO COMES WITHIN FIVE FEET OF ME IS AN INSENSITIVE FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!" you tell me to grow up, well i have a sense of understanding where i realize that the world doesn't revolve around me, perhaps you should try to attain something similar for yourself.
