Happy News, But…

Don't you dare attempt suicide to get out of your mortgage!
We mentioned on Sunday that 90-year old Addie Polk from Ohio attempted suicide by shooting herself in the chest when the local sheriff tried to evict her from her home for her failure to keep up with mortgage payments.
Well, according to a new report, the mortgage finance company Fannie Mae said it is forgiving the mortgage debt of Addie and she'll be allowed to move back into her home when she's well enough.
This is a chilling reminder for us all to only live within our means!

so sad. hope congress and ceos can finally decide that people come first not their salaries.
then who's in the tree?
That was the right thing to do!!!
if i shoot myself in the chest, do you think i can get out of paying off my credit cards?
Exactly. And the government needs to live within means and not hand over mortgages to people who don't have the means to make payments. There's such a thing as renting…..
This story sends chills up my spine. This woman has lived NINETY YEARS, and almost died by her own hand because of this country's fucked up economy and the mortgage companies trigger happy with foreclosing on everyone and anyone. If this story did not get nationwide coverage, FM would have never forgave the mortgage. They did it for publicity.
The whole situation that's happening down in the US is really sad. I hope the goverment pulls through and actually tries to help out the people in this scary situation.
Um, is has nothing to do with her not living within her means! She had an adjustable rate mortgage that Fannie Mae "adjusted" so high that she could no longer afford the payments! And besides, many many people who have been living within their means for a long time have found it difficult to survive because of today's crap economy, not through any fault of their own! Shame on you for suggesting that poor Ms. Polk's unfortunate plight was due to her irresponsibility, and not where it truly lies, with the irresponsibility of the greedy assholes that run Fannie Mae!
well there goes some of that 700 Billion
This was so heart-wrenching to read the first time, and I'm glad that this poor woman will be forgiven her debts, but I'm afraid others will follow suit to her desperate example in hopes that their debts will be written off too.
Our local news (fox13, UT) had a clip last night of a murder/suicide in CA; a man killing his family and then himself because of the threat of foreclosure.
It's a sad, scary time…
its the great depression all over again. people killig their families and shit. crazy.
Looks like the rest of you fucking snottie whores will survive how we do. Go out in your yard and kill a squirrel, best meat ever.
What did you think, that you are a BIG FUCKING DO and that
you deserve to live like kings. Try what Charles Manson did, take
some people and go and squat down in someone's house and then
make them make you fucking leave. LOL
a reminder for people to live within their means?
yeah, i'm sure that 90-year-old women's house is full of bling
Thanks so much to the 2 people (only 2!!!!) who saw the story for what it was! This was a 90 year old woman, living on her own, in her own home. It sucks that this 'person' 'reporting' is such an ass. The sad thing is: this is only the beginning for people like Ms. Polk and the rest of us 'little people'.
Re: SheriMoonZombie – such happy thoughts, let me guess, you teach preschool?
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so sad to hear about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My God …how can any of us live "in our means" like you suggested…we HAVE to live above our means or we won't be living at all! In our means is below poverty….and I make over $75,000 a year! I have a six year old car…house payment…and a teenager. We live paycheck to paycheck…mortgage, gas bills for three cars, insurance, and food and electricity takes most of the money. We have not saved any money in YEARS! How other people make it with less I have no idea. I swear I don't know how anyone lives "in their means"….
She signed an adjustable rate mortgage,, it didnt just happen to her people! Wake the f up will you? I mean it is tragic and all and I think it's sad that someone would try to kill themselves over their financial situation.. but please, lets get real here.. She sat in a room with a mortgage closer and actually HAD TO SIGN the f-ing papers……those papers made it clear that her rate would adjust and how high it could go….
I would like to know if she had a reverse mortgage? Does anyone know? Also, how come she didnt have family helping her with this is she was 90 f-ing years old? Craziness
we'll see if the finance company keeps their end of the bargain.
wow rez…have you not heard the term 'adjustable rate', dont be a tool, sure there are those who bought houses yrs ago they could not afford. more people however got into morts with stupid low rates because many where convinced that the economy was great and adjustable rates would never get to high. now the opposite has happene, and people are looking as rates much higher than they wher ever led to believe would be possible. you wanna blame someone, blame dishonest lenders out to get mortgages signed and sold as packaged stocks to make money.
all you tools saying live within your means really dont have a clue.
other people are gonna start shooting themselves now too. I mean hell if i was in deep enough i might consider it if it meant all my debts would be forgiven. I feel bad for the woman but why arent those who choose to not shoot themselves cut some slack too??
and it IS possible to live within your means. Im a 20 somthing college graduate and gross 22K a yuear (so i take home less than 20 grand). Yea, sad, but that's thats the shitty going-rate around here. Living within your means doesnt mean you figure out a way to live and still get what you want. It means you give up a lot of what you want. I want my own apt…but i have to live with my mom after graduating college, adn then share a tiny apt just to afford rent. Sure i'd love a house but i CAN"T AFFORD IT. I'd love to marry my bf but we can't afford it. I'd love to go out to eat at Applebees or Red Robin, can't afford it. I'd love to buy jeans at the Gap, well i gotta wear what i have till they get holes and then buy a new pair at the Goodwill. I'd love to have cable, I can't afford it. Thank god i get to use the internet for free at work and off of nice neighbors who don't secure their wireless internet! haha
A lot of people still SPEND so crazily and then bitch about no money. Believe me there are a million and one ways to cut the "fat" If youre making more than say 40G who have enough to live on if you only try to live like a poor person instead of upper middle class.
Perez, you don't think you are stepping on some of your reader's toes when you make the comment about living above your means? Frankly, I am really getting tired of logging on and getting "tips" like this from you. Maybe I am taking your comment too seriously, but, with today's economy, it is hard to even break even. Sure, many people ARE living above their means…..but, I think most of America are working families just trying to survive.
"This is a chilling reminder for us all to only live within our means!"
ARE YOU COMPLETLEY NUTS DOWN THERE??????
The present issues have NOTHING to do with individuals "living beyond means" as you say. The fat cats at AGI just spent a week at an ultra expensive SPA mind you where they spent some 200,000.00 on pampering, and why not as long as people like this woman have thier homes taken and people like you to mindlessly blame HER! Idiot Perez, just a coddled, white boy, IDIOT!
Below are just SOME of today's headlines, are the overspenders of America responsible for all of this? I think not.
Banks crash as Iceland goes into meltdown…
MARKET MAYHEM: London Banks In Freefall…
Sarkozy: 'We want a new world to come out of this'…
Bloomberg: 'Problems so grave no country can solve them alone'…
I'm actually kind of irritated that they forgave her loan because of this. Then everyone will try something stupid. Many people are in the same boat and don't get a free house because they have psychological problems. That's bullshit.
Well here is where part of the 700B went. This quoted from a story on Rumormill News.
"Less than a week after the federal government offered an $85 billion bailout to insurance giant AIG, the company held a week-long retreat for its executives at the luxury St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach, Calif., running up a tab of $440,000, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) said today at the the opening of a House committee hearing about the near-failure of the insurance giant. Showing a photograph of the resort, Waxman said the executives spent $200,000 for rooms, $150,000 for meals and $23,000 for the spa. "
This what people are killing themselves over.
"Live within our means"? That statement alone shows that you know nothing of the issue at hand, Perez. That is NOT what this is all about! Do some research and quit repeating Republican talking points!
how the fook does a 90 year old have a mortgage, no wonder america have fucked the entire world financially if they give mortgages to 90 year olds who obviously cannot keep up with repayments, like she can work!! in the UK you can get a mortgage over 35 years maximum and if it wont be paid before you are due to retire you have to reduce the term of the borrowing.. HOW DOES A 90 YEAR OLD END UP WITH A MORTGAGE?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU AMERICA FOR BEING UTTERLY SHIT AND IRRESPONSIBLE!!!!
I love some of the little comments you put on the pictures
