Good! This is one of my biggest pet peeves! I just think people sound so ignorant when they say it. And in response to the person who made the comment about Katy Perry saying it and it being praised… Katy meant it in the literal sense! "You're so gay"- as in you act like a stereotypical (right or wrong as it may be) gay man, not "you're so gay" - as in you suck.

The reason this was created is so teenagers who are struggling with their sexuality will not be bullied/harassed at school and being gay won't be something that kids associate with something that is stupid. In my experience, when people have used "that's so gay" to connote a negative sentiment, I have promptly responded "how gay is it?"- which usually is followed up with a look of bewilderment. The truth is that many people don't think about the words they use until they are called out on it. America needs to go back to grammar school.

I won't use the words in the post, but what if every derogatory word used for A Jewish person, a black person, an asian person etc were substituted for "bad" "ugly" or "stupid"?
Or,what if you heard another country was substituting your own country (ie, "Thats so AMERICAN") to mean "Thats so dumb"?

The issue isn't and SHOULDN'T be what the word used to mean.
It doesn't mean that anymore. Classic plays and books with the word "gay"(then meaning "happy", as someone pointed out) are being edited constantly to remove these words which now make people chuckle (or sadly, disgusted).
When homosexuality started to take a stand for its rights, closed minded opposers adopted the word "gay" to mean stupid, linking the association to what they thought of the group as a whole- stupid and worthless.
Also, in case anyone was wondering about the word "fag", try to tell me this is harmless: in the 1800's (I am not 100% that thats the right time frame) homosexuals, like witches, we're often burned at the stake. The stake was called a fag… the place t burn things people considered evil.

I think its just part of the culture nowadays and I have heard every one of my homosexual friends use the word towards people and things and whatever else they dame "gay"… so unless Im in the peresence of someone who has specifically asked me not to use it, Im going to continue to. But that doesnt include eaves-dropping celebrities at the mall. And what about all the happy people who cant use that word anymore for its actual definition??
