Furthermore, McCain misspoke when he said Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac "made all these risky loans, gave them to people that could never afford to pay back." Actually those organizations did not make "home loans directly with consumers." Rather, they "work[ed] with mortgage bankers, brokers, and other primary mortgage market partners" and supplied them with the funds to lend to home buyers at affordable rates, as described on their Web sites…

Oh please. This is complete crap! First of all, the majority of Congress is Democrat, and who do you think makes all these bills and laws regarding our economy? I mean, really, the President can only do so much. Its called separation of powers and checks and balances. Second of all, it was the Democrats who did not want more oversight of the national mortgage companies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. These two companies are huge contributors to the Democratic party, so why would the Democrats want to get involved with these businesses that donate so much to their party? Thirdly, it was the Clinton administration (her husband, go figure.) who passed the bill that made it so that almost anyone could get a loan for a home, even people who did not make a steady income. So of course, once this happened, practically everyone was able to afford a house and all was lovely for a while as home sales went up. Except, what happens when there are too many buyers and not enough houses to sell? House prices go up! The simple principle of supply and demand. So when house prices increase, interest rates also increase and suddenly people who took out loans cannot afford their homes anymore and they have to foreclose. Now the government owns all these houses that no one is buying anymore and people are defaulting on their mortgage. This all leads to banks with a lot of debt who are hardly giving loans anymore and one huge housing crisis.

My point is yes, we do need more oversight for these companies, but Republicans are not to blame for this crisis. I am not saying that Democrats necessarily are either, but it hypocritical of Hillary to imply that it is entirely the Bush administration's fault that we are in this mess, when it is really a collection of both parties' policies. The economy is something that naturally fluctuates, and will always have its low points before bouncing back up again. There are a number of factors such as the above mentioned housing crisis, scares in the stock market leading to a ton of people selling their stocks (which in turn makes the stock market go down), etc.
All I know is that redistributing the wealth (which is what Obama basically wants to do with his tax increases for the wealthy) will not help at. You can call it social welfare, but I call it Communism. And from what I remember from my history books, that tends to not work out so well. Hmm… It also sounds a lot like what Herbert Hoover tried to do during the Great Depression with the Revenue Act of 1932, and that made the economy a whole lot worse.
I may be a "crazy" Republican, but I think there should be at least a little conservative insight on these topics and posts. I still love Perez though! I'm always willing to read liberal perspectives on the issues as well and keep an open mind :]
